A reference — and one the younger poster's on this board might not understand — to the legendary James "Fly" Williams, a high-scoring guard from New York who started at the Peay in the 1970s. He was good — VERY good.

Seemingly, his oft-negative temperament dissuading NBA franchises from wanting him.

And he was recruited to Austin Peay in 1972 by Leonard Hamilton.

Yeah, you read that correctly.

As a Nashville resident, this has me intrigued. Austin Peay is now home to more than 11,000 student, and the campus it is located in downtown Clarksville, which (after many years) is finally starting to see some urban infill development. Clarksville sits on the Cumberland River and has some stellar historic architecture in its core. Hockey would be interesting for APSU but I'm skepti
But hockey is now rather popular in Middle Tennessee (thanks to the Preds and LOTS of transplants from the North and Northeast) s loo ...
[/qu

There is a APSU professor from UND that says a college hockey team will happen, but does not how it will be financed. My best guess is the Preds. APSU is just a few short years from dropping scholarships for fb, but those have been reinstated.

A UND-Penn St hockey game has been sold out for this fall in downtown Nashville, so maybe the Preds will try for lesser games in Clarksville. Many Allegiant flights are eminating from North Dakota airports to Nashville that weekend too..

The UND-Penn St hockey game is planned for October at the Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville. Should be strong (assuming it happens).

Bring it on down to Music City and we'll show UND fans a good time.

The invited games keep getting bigger and bigger. First, the Winnipeg Jets arena, than the Orleans Arena Vegas, than MSG in NYC, than the Preds arena, than the Vegas NHL arena, than the Seattle NHL arena. UND fans will turn out.

We love our visitors to Nashville, NoDak. Downtown bustles with all kinds of things to eat, drink, do and see.

Personally, I'm very worried about the progress of Illinois finally adding Division I hockey. This looked like a 99% certainty in February, but with the pandemic having thrown all budgets at all colleges (whether wealthy or not) completely out of whack, I fear that this could kill it. If a Big Ten school potentially can't handle that impact, then it's hard for me to imagine how much smaller programs could be adding sports at this point.

Fixed.

Imagine that a southern league would start with eleven or fewer scholarships like Atlantic Hockey did. Now most AHA scbools have full scholarships. The Predators seem to want cheaper options than the pro game to get younger hockey fans a fix. It's also possible a minor league team would chose Clarksville's 8000 seat arena.

As I have stated in every college hockey expansion thread you have started:

When posting college hockey expansion rumors you must answer one of two questions in the affirmative:

1. Is there a $100 million donation for an arena and a team?
2. Is there a $40 million donation and an available arena?

We’ve got a possible arena here. You’re only $40M away.

Montgomery County is building that arena And the Preds will provide yearly operating costs. Their are any other suggestion here there are absolutely no stipulations required. Those two posters are totally pissed at me because their schools can't find any money.
Besides Austin Peay is advertising fo players.

The earlier post had nothing to do with you, but only in your mind. The poster from Maine is just sick that they don't get donations, but Maine and N New Englander that went there are notorious cheapXXbastards. You have to give to give something early to gets other to follow.

The poster from Toledo just believe only the rich can make a difference because that all hes ever known. Pretty sad example.

Prayer can make huge difference and I say thats why UND and Grand Forks has gotten so much in the last 20years.

Here's a list all of the schools who have started Division 1 hockey programs FROM SCRATCH in the last twenty years: Penn State and Arizona State.

For bonus points, here's a list all of the schools who have started Division 1 hockey programs from scratch without a massive donation: None.

The bare minimum price tag, if you don't need or care about a rink, is $32,000,000. Until you identify the donors for that money, you are talking out of your ass. And I read the article about the arena. Nowhere is APSU hockey mentioned.

I repeat. If you are going to post rumors about a startup D-1 hockey program do one of the following:

1. Identify where the $100M is coming from for a team and rink OR
2. Identify the rink and where the $40M is coming from.

The link I provided proves this wasn't a rumor. Even if it was a rumor, this board allows it. Maine has been going crazy because they have struggled to upgrade Alfond so their fans are going crazy. Hockey is their main sport and it is going down the tubes financially.

You can repeat your BS stipulations all you want because there is other info that says they are looking into it.

The link you provided was garbage. It lists every college with D-I, D-III and club hockey in the United States. It is unaffiliated with any school. It's looking to scam money out of kids who have no idea how to get recruited. It also helpfully lists every junior team in the United States as a "Junior College." I'm interested in the degree offered by the BCHL's Wenatchee Wild.

It also lists D-II hockey as a thing.

I'm excited for the new hockey programs at the other five schools listed in Tennessee: https://www.ncsasports.org/athletic-scho.../tennessee

That website means nothing.

So that's where Maine does it's recruiting now, further infuriating you?

DII mens hockey still exists in the backwater New England states.

APSU is listed as not having a hockey team, but APSU is still advertising. A college normally starts a club team before varsity.

Maine hockey used to be a power. Games against Maine were a big deal, but no longer.

Just in the last 10 years, there has been major arena upgrades by AHA teams.

UConn took the sport seriously and went to Hockey East instead of nearly club level.

Bently U built a new arena costing $s.

Sacred Heart is building an on expensive new arena. Sacred Heart, UConn, Quinnipiac and Yale are now the Big Four in the state.

AIC now rents the big Springfield Arena.

Those four teams are essentially DI adds as the AHA had some very weak teams.
