There is a form you can fill out so you can really frick the taxpayers hard.

I think it all depends on where you fall salary range 200..
EVERY "taxpayer" gets it. If you are unemployed you get an EXTRA $600 on top of your state benefit AND the $1200. Load up on four wheeler, jewelry, electronics etc. stocks as a lot of toys are going to be purchased in the next few months. Boat stocks too. You name it.
This will not be based on "taxpayer" those living off SS will also get the check. Even if they get their SS next month they were still affected by this...
(I realize that the below sounds a lot like DavidSt but it does play into this)
bus system not running means more cab rides to Dr, store, get meds. Not only that they are also paying more for on line shopping. The way I see it the government has asked those more at risk to....stay shut in as much as possible. That would be those on SS....living off it.
If you are giving those people that are still working a check and those drawing unemployment at a higher rate, a check....
any person under the limits on income should get the check. There is ZERO chance this will just be a payout for "taxpayers" in 2019.
I rather the government not send out any checks. Hell I been for shutting those at high risk up and everyone else keep doing what you are doing. Other words dont shutdown the world, from the go. But since we did....
this is a 350 million people check, as long as you are under the limits. Just as it should be. No way the democrats sign on to this if it wasnt. Neither would a lot of republicans. If those on SS was not included

If you're saying this is 'too much', okay... that's an opinion and you're entitled to it. Unfortunately rules are put in place for the dumbest among us... and dumb people need to be forced into compliance that most would do willingly.
If you're saying 'social distancing' in the generic sense is a bad policy... you couldn't be more wrong. Limiting physical contact between people during a viral outbreak transmitted through bodily fluids that is not killed by exposure to air is irrefutably the correct response.
b/c I believe what the Dutch figured out a little over a week ago is best method.....I've been chiming this for over 2 mos. now....
isolating the elderly and let the healthy contract and become immune so this strain isn't an issue downstream would be my move...
if a handful die as collateral damage or by choice, so be it....destroying an economy is MUCH WORSE in the 'residual' category....
I'm tired of explaining what I've written to ad nauseam....

tell me I'm wrong in two more weeks.....I'll admit I was wrong....
edit: the dutch kill rate is now 0.5% pal....
I'm trying to understand what this has to do with social distancing.
There are two aspects to the disease... One is infection which deals with the transmission of a disease... the other is death.... which is often a function of healthcare access and/or population age.
I'll take your facts as stated.
The Japanese INFECTION rate is 1,250 out of 125mm... or 0.001% (unless I missed a decimal) with 20% of those from one infected cruise ship. about 50 people have died. They practice social distancing as a culture. By contrast, the Dutch have 6500 cases out of only about 18mm people. 5 times the rate on 1/9th the population?
I'd also note that the Dutch have also been practicing social distancing... 5 teens were recently fined for a gathering of more than 3 people and being less than 1.5 meters apart.
https://nltimes.nl/2020/03/25/netherland...ients-died
More people died from Corona in the Netherlands on one day than in the entirety for Japan
I'm not saying you're not correct that it can be taken to extremes, but that is sort of my point. If it were part of our culture, we'd have it down to its necessary and pertinent actions. Instead it's people stocking up in toilet paper because they don't know what else to do.

Death is unavoidable and even if you let everyone go about doing as they do everyday before shutting down the world. But shut off the at risk people.
The death rate would not be much if any higher in June. Those people that are social distancing (not including the high risk) would have been no sicker than any other flu year. But they would build up a immunity and we wouldnt be seeing the world losing half of its wealth and go crazy. A lot of these deaths are the same ones that also die from the flu.

Meh... Wealth isn't measured by short-term issues.
As to your opinion above, that flies in the face of the evidence I presented.
Social distancing practiced properly wouldn't involve shutting all of these businesses etc.... it would simply mean working from home, staying home, wearing a mask and reasonable efforts at avoiding people (or at spreading your fluids) if you're sick. If you're not sick, go to work as usual. If there is a bad strain going around like this, you simply act like you're sick and don't want to spread it to others, but not so sick that you can't go to work.
If we practice this, death from the flu go down a lot as well.

So you want to shutdown for the flu? How about outlawing all smoking? Alcohol? Cars? Sweets? Cokes? Every single one of those kills more than the coronavirus.
The evidence point to those that are really old...70+ and those that are really sick, are the ones dying from this. That is the facts. There is no evidence pointing to anyone (of course a few will) young and healthy dying from this.
Those at risk could have stayed at home, shut in, no contact, other than medical. Those numbers goes down. The rest of the world goes about it businesses like it does every other year.
If you want to be afraid, lock yourself in. Your choice. You are 100% wrong in saying Social distancing wouldn't involve shutting down the country. Only a very few can work from home. Those low paying jibs needs a ass sitting right there when you walk in. This country stops without that. Stop acting like a idiot and think for yourself. Well, maybe, not, if that's your thoughts.
Old people and especially old sick people die. You are not stopping that. Why do you think you can? If they dont die from the coronavirus or the flu...heart disease gets them 6 months or a year down the line. We all die...
if it was targeting the young and those healthy, then panic. Why are you so afraid of people dying and think you have a control over life?

Not getting the full amount, but not earning too much to get anything either. Personally I don't think anyone that is still working should receive anything.

Wow...
I don't know how better to describe NOT shutting down, yet that is what you got from my post?
Japan lives an extreme version of this way every day. They clearly aren't shut down on a daily basis. You are simply moving from event to event being reactionary (and justifying 'shut downs' to some). I am talking about making shut downs unnecessary, because people take reasonable precautions anyway.
What says 'shut down' about teaching kids not to lick hand-rails, having 'open' food (like a bin of self-serve bagels) be replaced by contained or 'served' food? Have you ever watched a kid wipe his nose and then select pizza at Cici's, touching 3 pieces before finally picking the one he wanted? What says 'shut down' about not wiping your nose and then shaking my hand?
Whether it kills me or not, I don't want to miss work because a picker won't wash his hands after wiping his ass.... and I'd rather not eat another kids snot.
If you're sneezing, wear a mask or stay home. If you're touching food, just like you wear a hair net, wear gloves and know how/when to change them.
If we do this, then all we'd need to do for this or any other 'pandemic' is to all act like we're sick and unless we're symptomatic, go about business as usual... knowing that others generally do the same. If we DON'T do this, then the next time another virus comes around, we're just doing this all over again.... Infecting 60mm people and putting 275,000 in the hospital.

No, below a certain income and you don't have to file.

I agree..but..I have no clue how in a short period of time that could be parsed out. Both my wife and I are still working. In fact our income has spiked due to increase hours. We do not need any governmental assistance. I expect a pretty significant portion of rural America is like us. Ill be honest. Im going to piss this away on a new set of Calloway Mavrik or Cobra SZ irons and a new putter...to be determined. Ill feel horrible for about a day doing this.

We're both working and don't need it either. However, I don't know if either of our jobs are secure (if the cases are still spiking into say June and the economy is still in the dumps, all bets are off). And with one high school senior and one high school junior in our house, we need every bit we can for college.
Still haven't figured out if we're getting the child credit or not. We had one turn 16 in May last year and one turn 18 at the end of the year. I'm pretty sure we won't get $500 for the older child - not sure about the one who was 15 half of the year and 16 the other half.

You must not realize that is the sole reason for getting it. To spend it. Because if you didn't get it you wouldn't purchase those things. The last thing they want you to do is hoard it away. That's why it's called a stimulus. Just don't spend it on an under the table product....or service.

I guess..The problem I have with this is that I was going to buy this stuff this Spring from the fruits of my labor. Now Im going to buy it on the fruits of my daughters future labor. We need to have serious discussion after this mess is over about how we handle national "internal" emergencies like this...ie..planning.. supplies..manpower..logistics and funding. The economic consequences are to great to let this happen again.

I think your expectations for American behavior is way too high. Pollen season is starting up in the south and your plan for those affected is too wear masks and not go to work? Using japan as an example as they are are so socially distance they’re don’t practice sex. I don’t think The US youth would ever go for that

Still haven't figured out if we're getting the child credit or not. We had one turn 16 in May last year and one turn 18 at the end of the year. I'm pretty sure we won't get $500 for the older child - not sure about the one who was 15 half of the year and 16 the other half.
The year you turn 17 you stop getting the child tax credit, so I assume 17 and up get the 1200... but it's the gubment so it probably will be some other age.

I was just about to buy a new telescope. Looks like the US government may be buying it for me.

I’ll bet it’s dependent v. Non dependent. I asked this question about a year or two ago, if you got a chillin that doesn’t make any more than 6 grand a year, you can claim them as a dependent til they’re dead. Seems no excuse is necessary.
So, I’m guessing 20 YO, is an “adult”, even if they’re still freeloading ne’er do wells. Just a guess.
But just think how the grifters will think-
If you can show “work” for the last xx # of months, fake, hand written pay stubs accepted, you’ll be pulling in 24 bucks an hour for watching the View, VFNN and ass sitting for at least another 4 months. Then go back to the regularly scheduled ass sitting.
What a Country. We have the best country, don’t we folks?!?
Now! Get out there and make the free loaders proud again!
