1. Dayton isn't going anywhere. The Big East is perfect at 11 schools for a 20-team round robin. As great as Dayton was this year, they're due for a big drop next season unless for some ungodly reason Toppin comes back. Plus they might get pushback from Xavier (same market) and Marquette (I forget their story but it has something to do with Dayton not supporting them joining the Midwestern Collegiate Conference in the 80s). I think if the Big East wanted Dayton, they would have taken them and St. Louis at the same time they grabbed Creighton, Butler and Xavier.

2. Why would the A-10 add? They're at 14 schools. If they lose Dayton, they're at 13. Basketball scheduling doesn't require even numbers the way football does. My uneducated guess is that the A-10 would have to lose at least three, maybe four schools before they seriously consider backfilling, and whoever leaves will make the A-10 less desirable, especially if it's VCU and/or Richmond leaving. Take Dayton, St. Louis and VCU/UR/UMass out of the A-10 and suddenly they're a one-bid league that occasionally snags an at-large every couple of years or so.

The A10 would have every reason to want us. We just need to keep Wood Selig as far away from them as possible. Yeah, you are right. We need a new AD first.

I agree there is no real reason to be in a conference for football except to make the scheduling easier. We still don't have any natural rivalries in football except for the memes we trade on here.

There are plenty of other FBS independents to add to the schedule too. Uconn and Umass would probably be 2 every year you could count on. I bet the average fan would still recognize them better than MT or FIU

Didn't they turn us down once before? That story is confusing. Some say we never asked, others we asked and we're shown the door.

At this point I would take football indy and A-10 for all other sports. Indy's could form some sort of a conference like in the 90s. I would like the A-10 to drop some schools and replace it with better schools

WKU
UMass
St Joes
Rhode Island

And yet WKU, Marshall, and North Texas of the CUSA still manage to out-recruit us. Go figure.

As a long time fan, I would go for the A10 basketball and I believe ODU could get enough good football games as an independent. I believe there good teams out there, the fans would like and recognize.

Haha. I’ll take Randolph Macon over FAU any day of the week. Our fans were awarded FAU and UTSA twice this year. That’s 4 out of 14 home games this past season.

Not me. I'd rather play better universities any day. We would beat RMC 48 out of 50 times just because we're bigger and they can't match us. Unfortunately we lose to FAU, FIU, and other CUSA publics occasionally, but that just proves that we're currently at our level.

To me, if ODU thinks it is better than CUSA, we need to dominate it. Otherwise, I feel we are just trying to compete in our league like everyone else has to.

It’s not just about the competition level. We don’t play anyone that the alumni gives a crap about after December. Go ahead and show me another program that doesn’t have a state rival in conference. Especially at the mid major level. It’s one thing to be in a spread out Big East. Every team at our level has local rivals. All of them. Except CUSA. Well at least the Florida and Texas schools have each other. We have nothing.

The argument “if CUSA is soo bad... why don’t we dominate it?” Is BS. The logistics don’t allow you to sustain or dominate anything. Look at MTSU. They were the closest thing we’ve seen to domination and they were great for two years. Now they are a complete dumpster fire. It’s impossible to sustain. You won’t see a dominant program from this structure. No way. ODU has the best conference record among the 14 teams over the last 7 years. That’s gotten us 1 NCAA and 1 NIT. This is a one bid league and that’s not changing. A 1 bid league with no rivalries. Awesome. I hate the CAA the way it is now but at least we’d have a few games people gave a crap about after the New Year.

Count me in the A10 club. What a major upgrade it would be, even on interest alone. We should be trying our best to get in there unless we are able to get an American invite.

Just off the top of my head Marshall, UNC Charlotte, App State, Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee, WKU, UAB, USA, USM and Louisiana Tech all are in conferences that don't have in-state rivals.

New conference. Ga. Southern, Ga. State, Charlotte, App. State, ECU, ODU, Liberty Biberty, JMU, Marshall, WKU, Temple, and maybe Army or Navy. Now ECU, Temple, Army and Navy are sort of big for their britches, but maybe it could happen. Probably not!
