Has anyone received any updates on what will happen to the current convo come next fall? I have heard some rumors, but not from any reliable sources. The most recent I have heard is that old convo will be knocked down, a building will be stood up to function like the current Godwin hall in convo's place. Godwin Hall will then be knocked down to expand the lower bowl of the stadium.

Any truth behind that?

That sounds like complete nonsense. It’s not on anyone’s list of projects.

No, whoever told you that has some great story telling skills though. The current Convo will be gutted as far as I know. Godwin Hall isn't going anywhere now or in the future. It has been discussed that the student side can be built up without the need to demolish Godwin.

Possible that they might complete structural steel for the entire Center today; yesterday they resumed steel erection (having completed the foundation work around the practice facility). Topping out the practice facility roof is all that remains.

Spoke with a subcontractor a week ago. The "push" for the next few weeks is to get the building dried in so they can get some climate control going. The interior framing and rough mechanicals are pretty far along so I would assume "finishes" (drywall, ceilings) will start shortly after the new year.

AUBC thread dropping to page 2 news haha. Football is cruising and basketball is... something.

A couple of weeks ago one of my athletics buddies told me they would have the arena enclosed by mid-December and I laughed like "no way guy"... but here we are today and they seem to have 95% of the basketball venue enclosed - all but the corner on the Costco side where the roof scaffold is set... and probably closing the Carrier drive side today. I was impressed with how quickly they wrapped it.

I guess JMU is closed now - but if any of the Athletics staff reading here feel compelled to go get updated construction/interior photos, I know a lot of us here would enjoy an update 04-cheers

Whole bunch of concrete trucks on the back side of the AUB this morning. Must be pouring some floors or something.

Looks like they have just about all of the exterior sheathing in place. Starting to look like an arena now!!

Decent snow storm in H'burg currently. Hopefully won't impact football team's ability to fly out tomorrow.

Putting it down pretty hard today; should be done by close of business though. Confident the only thing it is impacting is football practice today but they may have gotten that in early. Coach said yesterday the normal schedule for the week was moved up a little bit each day

Just took a look at the cam and it looks like they have cleaned up a lot of the construction debris around the back end of the building. Also looks like the remaining exterior sheathing is being installed so the whole facility should be closed in very soon one would think.

RE: Atlantic Union Bank Center Webcam

Don't see a thread for tomorrow's game yet so I'll post here but was curious about people's opinions are on this. I'll leave the game thread to Hart since he does a good breakdown.

At first I thought it was a little weird to see a straight cash handout to a student but honestly if it gets butts in seats that's what I care about. I kind of preferred the club night where the highest attendance gets a donation because it encouraged big groups to come but maybe that wasn't effective enough. Maybe we're just desperate at this point and don't want to show lackluster attendance on TV when it isn't hidden behind Flo broadcasts 03-puke
Seems odd to me because what happens after the contest? Feels like students will just leave when they aren't selected leaving no one there at the end of the game. Obviously we have deeper issues than just attendance when it comes to closing out games but everyone leaving can't help.

The group doing the masonry work for this place can't seem to get it right. They've taken down more block than they've laid. The University Blvd side started getting block laid this week but last night and this morning they took all the tan brick down... thinking they missed a couple courses of the lighter tan blocks first. Hopefully this foreman doesn't hire basketball coaches too.

They should ask our MBB team for help. They are terrific at putting up bricks.
