RE: UCLA/Cronin
i don't like that comparison. cronin struck out on almost all true centers. nysier is the exception. mooch was decent. i mostly forget ibrahima thomas. he generally had a good eye at the four

True 5's are the hardest players to recruit, there are simply fewer of them to recruit and they tend to be less skilled. It's even more difficult for a coach like Cronin who is most concerned with getting an athletic center who can defend and rebound. But even a less athletic guy like Vogt, but with shooting ability, will be in somewhat high demand. Pulling in a skilled big who doesn't need development is difficult in the AAC. Cronin will likely have more success at getting a ready now type center at UCLA.
I'm curious to see the type of center Brannen does eventually bring in. Will it be another Vogt type who is more offensively skilled - but not very good at defense and rebounding - or will he go the Cronin route of getting an athlete who can be developed. Will we just recruit 6'9"ish guys and play a smaller, faster center. It's the biggest hole in our recruiting for 2020 and it should be filled in the next few months.

Vogt has the highest block rate on the team by a WIDE margin. He's the main guy defending the rim, which has been UC's best defensive attribute (UC's 17th nationally in 2 point % defense). You're so stubborn with Vogt.
He's also been an elite offensive rebounder for UC cleaning up 11.2% of our misses. (Scott's been really good on the offensive glass too getting 9.8% of our misses). His defensive rebounding numbers aren't great, but he does a good job blocking out the opposing team's key rebounder and letting our other guys (particularly Scott) go get it. You really undersell Vogt's impact on defense and on the glass.

Damn, Mark. After reading your gentle but firm scolding of SkyBlade, I feel guilty for just having read his post about Vogt.

I have to give Cronin credit. UCLA is 15-11 and they have some nice wins. He's doing better than I thought he would at this point.

He’s got them playing better as the season wears on. He’ll be fine out there. Should have them on the bubble in a couple weeks.

Perhaps UCLA can host UC in the NIT.

They're double digit underdogs against Colorado today. That line seems crazy high. Love ucla today.

You nailed it. They have come from 9 down to 8 up late in 2nd half.

And they pull out the win. 9-2 over their last 11, with multiple road wins over ranked teams. Not sure UCLA will make the NCAA tournament, but if they do they will be a team nobody wants to play.

Starting to think they get in the NCAA conversation over the last few weeks. The committee is going to have a really difficult time this year figuring things. There just isn’t a whole lot that separated 35 to 85 this year.

I bet $40 on UCLA to cover and I bet $20 on UCLA money line at +430. That was easy money! $124 profit and I won $40 on Villanova and lost only $25 on Poker.

Mick's ucla team now in first in the pac 12 after a huge win over Arizona state. They've been on quite a ruin against the best in their conference. They were abysmal early. Coaching transitions don't always work overnight.

I watched the 1st half in a hotel. Couldn’t make it to the second half. They started slow but went from down 9 to up 6 heading into halftime.
They are going to cause some ulcers in the selection committee room with how they have played the past month. Started awfully. Computer numbers stink (76 NET and 84 Kenpom) but can the committee keep a team that wins or shares the Pac12 regular season championship out?
