BYU and ESPN sign deal through 2026
Lest anybody was holding out hope they'd be a potential #12 for football. No financial terms disclosed yet...

I've come to the conclusion that BYU cares much more about it's pride than actual football success. They'll stay independent forever in order to avoid being lower than Utah in their own minds.

Now that that is settled, Air Force, Boise, and CSU are up in the next two years. One or all three. 😎

This.

Also, they are better off as an Independent (-the access bowl spot).
They get good money, their schedule is solid and if B12 calls, they are ready.

Hmm, I thought they already came to an agreement a few months back. Guess I was mistaken.

I'm sure both BYU and ESPN want to see what happens to the Pac-12 Big 12 when their media contract expire.

Posters on the Byu board seem to think they're getting around 8.5 million. The AAC was offered what 10 million with a gor? Their contract sounds like a holding pattern type of a deal until ESPN decides if they want to go all in with the AAC Boise and Byu and either Airforce or SDSU. In other words none of us are getting what we could get if ESPN decided to offer us all 11-12 million for the final worthwhile entity,,,,with a gor of course. 07-coffee3

They would be in a better position in a conference than independent, as we have discussed re: the difficulties with eliminating 8 games off their future schedules to make room for conference play.

At least 5 teams wouldn't sign a GOR.

Most of BYU's football game contracts have an out clause if BYU joins a *P5* conference.

The ESPN media deal has been done for months, but BYU wanted to wait to *officially* announce both the ESPN media deal and the bowl deals concurrently. The bowl deals weren't signed until recently.

BYU would owe around 20 mil to cancel all the games necessary to join a conference other than the p5.

My point is that ESPN is paying all three of us less than they would be willing to pay us as one entity on purpose. They offered the AAC more with a gor and I'd assume that Byu may have received the same offer if they would entertain the offer to join the AAC. I think they realize that Boise is dead in the water in the mwc. I think ESPN already understand that they could lock the big12 into never thinking about expanding knowing that Texas and Oklahoma are never going to the blackhole of nonchalant lower TV ratings west coast sports. 11-12 million for an AAC with Byu,Boise and Airforce is still a great bargain while allowing for an expanded playoff that will all but guaranteeing that spot to a p5.5 conference as a buffer.

RE: BYU and ESPN sign deal through 2026
I personally think that ESPN set the perimeters of the established p5s financially and non of us are ever getting in that. We are the underpaid cash generates that we are supposed to be for them, so that they can overpay the p5s because of the Rutgers and Mississippi states of the world. However they do have a place for us if the AAC hopefuls and byu and Boise can understand our current positions on their ledger sheets right now and focus on maximizing that.

Do you do that or do you sit on 11 and hold out hope that by 2026 the CFP expands and becomes more inclusive and wait for the Big 12 Non-event? BYU is the most valuable property. Does waiting make more sense?

Actually, I did a whole lot of work one afternoon proving it could be done in 2 years with only losing about 4 or 5 games. Made a post about it.
