He has a very good chance to end up number 2 in scoring and 3 in rebounding. Locked in to number 2 in blocks. That's HOF and jersey retirement stuff. Plus nobody really wants to wear number 13 anyway. I like how nobody has been given #3 since Marcus graduated. We just need to get him back to school. Gold Rush?

The chances greatly improve if we go deep in the CAA tourney and play additional games into mid March.

...and maximum of 21 remaining games. A much easier feat when he carries us to the National Championship game.

I'm just looking forward to that 65 rebound per game average.

Well, if we get to the national championship game, Nate only needs to average 15ppg/40rebs/2.5 blocks.

But in all seriousness, if we go to the CAA title game he only needs 19.7ppg. If we go to the CAA title game and a post-season tourney and are out in one game, he only needs 18.5ppg.

The ppg record is no guarantee, but he definitely has a shot at it. I thought it would be decades before Marcus's record was threatened, let alone by a big at W&M.

We should always keep in mind that neither Cohen nor Giermak did not have the 3 point shot or, at least in Cohen's total, their point totals would have been larger. Cohen did have an outside one hander that was in 2-point range.

Were freshman allowed to play during the days of Cohen and Giermak?

I don't believe so. Freshmen became eligible for football and basketball in 1972, 1968 for other sports. I'm not sure if they were always ineligible prior to that or not.

Yes, I was wondering if they had been eligible at some prior point in time only to become ineligible later.

I believe that freshmen played on JV teams, not eligible for varsity play, prior to the switch (1968-1972). The only exception was a couple years, 1950-1951, during the Korean War, when the NCAA passed a waiver to allow freshmen to play on varsity teams because of the number of males called into service.

Did a little research on Giermak. Joined the navy out of high school in Chicago in 1945. Walked on at W&M the next year and was put on the JV. He was noticed and moved up to varsity by 1st year coach Dick Gallagher. He was the team's top scorer all 4 years-14,17,22,21 ppg. Drafted by the Rochester Royals in 1950.

So you're saying he skipped a year between high school and college? Surprised he received 4 years eligibility 05-stirthepot.

Cohen played for Coach Bill Chambers all 4 years (1957-1961) as well. Averaged 14, 17,24,& 24

He was drafted in the 2nd round, but was never signed. Read that he died in Switzerland at the age of 38. I wonder what the story is behind that untimely death?
