I'm convinced that there is a large contingent of EMU alums, fans, etc. say within 15, 20 or 25 miles of Ford Field who most likely would not drive say 30, 40 or even 50 miles to Ypsi.
E.g., Warren to Rynearson is about 50 miles. Warren to FF is is roughly 15 miles. Royal Oak is a dozen miles to FF. Royal Oak to Rynearson is 45 miles.
Rochester Hills to FF is 25 miles and almost 2x that to Rynearson. River Rouge is less than 10 miles from Ford Field.
And if we have alums in midtown Detroit, they can walk or the QLine or Uber... :)
Yeah right. Pay $30 to park, 6 for a hotdog, 5 for 32 oz soda, 9 for a beer. For. a $15 ticket. Been there done that no thanks. Uber would be over. 50 for a round trip. . Next time do a cost benefit analysis first.

Okay, Super. I did the Northwestern game what maybe 15 years ago so I'm familiar with costs, benefits, etc.
That said, my suggestion was based on many factors:
1). Like the QL Bowl, it is designed to bring the game to where most alums, etc. live. They do not live in Washtenaw County. There could be buses for say a few hundred students + band.
2). Secondly, it is an out reach event to reach those who might not drive 25, 40, or even 50 miles or more to come to Ypsi.
3). Third, it is a test (the previous efforts failed because our FB team was not competitive) to see if a rivalry game (say vs. CMU) or a 2:1 game like Kentucky, Illinois, etc. would work. Maybe a 3 : 1 with MSU. These type of game might do better at Ford Field. MSU / EMU at FF would be like MSU/Oakland hoops at Little Caesars.
4). The game ticket would be OPTIONAL in season tix packages because of its location.

I'm with Super on this. No games at FF unless it's the MAC Championship game or a bowl game. No need to rent FF when Rynearson is available.

Agree Nickel! Alumni showed on Thursday because of the uniqueness of playing in a bowl in Detroit. We will start getting better Rynearson turnouts when we start winning big games in conference. Starting 0-2 during MAC season is a momentum killer. If we are in1st place in late October hosting CMU or Toledo, expect to see a lot more alumni willing to drive out to the Factory.

I hear you (plural). Some years ago EMU was going to do a series with Oklahoma, with our game to have been at Ford Field.
Anyone remember this?

Yes read my other post. Would cost well over $500,000. Talked to the AD at the time there was even a plan to do much the same with Tennessee. No money in it for us in fact there had to be a minimum. Do you have a half million laying around with little chance of getting back.

Hold on.......Are you saying the game day experience at Ford Field would not be worth it? Were you at the bowl game? It was awesome. I went to 3 games at Rynearson this season and the experience was unfortunately horrible. Total lack of concession stands, long lines, waiting over 20 mintues for a "Hot and Ready" pizza, outdoors. I love the idea of having a game at FF. What is the downside? Players and most importantly recruits would love this.

BTW, this is a rejoinder to 'Super:
Was the original deal with MSU that the EMU home game was to be played at Ford Field?
I thought some of these discussions (contracts) with teams like KY, MSU, etc. had questions about where the game would be played.

Money was a big issue, but I asked whether or not there was an issue where the game would be played.
I believe there were issues if Rynearson had adequate parking, concessions, rest rooms, etc. for 30K.

Years ago, Eastern played at Ford Field against Central. The game was incredible and the atmosphere was great. It was a double header. If I remember correctly, the first game featured Hillsdale and Wayne State.

Ford Field is an awesome place to watch FB. I've been there for a few Lions games, EMU game (I think vs. Northwestern) and I even attended the Motor City Bowl one year (think it was TOL vs. BC).

We've played CMU, NW, Navy and possibly another (wmu or cmu again). None of them drew anything like the ql bowl.

In the Genyk era EMU played CMU, WMU, Navy, and Northwestern at FF. The attendance and atmosphere was nothing like Thursday. Rynearson has issues but those can be fixed for far less than the cost of renting FF.
Beer is cheaper at Rynearson too. Lol.

True. For a MAC team to draw a large crowd it needs to be a winning program.
In the 2000's TOL hosted OSU in CLE. NIU hosted a B1G team in Chicago.
Just win baby...

BTW, this is a rejoinder to 'Super:
Was the original deal with MSU that the EMU home game was to be played at Ford Field?
I thought some of these discussions (contracts) with teams like KY, MSU, etc. had questions about where the game would be played.
The was supposed to be money wasn’t.
Money was a big issue, but I asked whether or not there was an issue where the game would be played.
I believe there were issues if Rynearson had adequate parking, concessions, rest rooms, etc. for 30K.
Try going to the rest concession at Rynearson if you handicapped!?

Rynearson is a much better stadium for the players than the fan. Rynearson has good Field Turf, dressing facilities, etc.
As Super indicates there are problems, esp. for handicapped, with rest rooms, concessions, etc.
The press box is inadequate for say an EMU/MSU game.
Even though some might think that parking isn't really a problem, take a crowd which is really 6K and quintuple it to 30K and talk to me about parking.

RE: The Future of EMU Football (Hint: It is Bright)
One last thought about this range of subjects:
When athletic teams, FB and also to a lesser extent MBB, do real well it is a big plus for the university in prestige and fund raising. Alums and esp. wealthy donors like to be associated with some thing great and exciting.
Some donors may buy season ticket. Some might give cash gifts to the school. Sometimes a big donor will feel a sense of pride and mission and make big gifts which significantly positively impact an area of the university (e.g., baseball field, golf, SAPC, etc.). Previously things like the Halle Library.
The best example, not within the MAC, is the Mike Ilitch School of Business building at Little Caesars Arena. Gift was over 40M. That has helped the WSU school of business increase enrollment significantly.
