It seems abundantly clear that the AAC is not going to add a school that "dilutes value of the conference." If anyone is afraid that this could happen, they can rest assured.

Not only does the conference have a clearly articulated strategic plan that mandates further improvement, but ESPN would not stand idly by and support the addition of a school that would adversely affect their bottom line, either.

The current discussion is not about the "dangers" of replacing UConn, but about the enhancements to the conference (especially the viewership market) that adding any potential member would present.

The AAC and its broadcasters will take a hit from losing the UConn market area in the lucrative northeastern region, and the UConn basketball brand.

The main question is - of all the potential candidates for membership - which combination of FB only and BB/olympic schools would add the most to the conference, going forward?

Adding a BB/olympic member, such as VCU or Dayton, would be as beneficial to the conference as adding Wichita State was, and would help maintain the overall quality of AAC men's basketball.

To lose UConn, without reloading with a BB program of comparable quality, would certainly diminish the stature of the conference, leaving us with only a handful of perennial high-end BB programs. To go more than one season without a solid replacement for UConn BB could weaken the case for inclusion of the AAC as a "Major 7" BB conference.

.
In FB, the quality of the conference is not threatened by the loss of UConn, but the loss of the northeastern U.S. market area remains a very significant concern, from a broadcasting and national visibility standpoint.

Adding a Colorado FB-only school (AF, CSU) would help the by expanding the footprint into the Boulder/Denver to Colorado Springs area, in particular, and into the Rocky Mountain region (and time zone), more broadly.

SDSU, which isn't too distant a FB only add, according to Aresco's recent statement, would be a strong FB add, which would extend the footprint into southern California and the western/mountain time zones.

All three schools, particularly AF and SDSU, would enhance the national visibility, viewership, and brand of the conference.

All of your points are spot on. That being said nobody and I mean NOBODY cares about college football in the northeast. Maybe with Flutie and McNabb but outside of that nobody. That’s a sad fact. We were a terrible fit for this conference. You’ll find out Temple is next. We’re too far from the mid point of this league.

Temple will not follow UConn’s plan for leaving the American in basketball or football. We like it here, thank you very much.

We need to fight harder that the Big XII had to they were fighting for playoff access (CCG for access), we literaly fighting for survival, yes still fighting.

The B12 lost no money to existing members by adding TCU - in that sense we are in a very different situation.

Other than most (Army/VCU) of the possible additions east of the Mississippi, the additions out west will not cost the AAC members money.

All (SDSU, Boise, AF, and BYU) will add money for existing members, plus bring the AAC closer to possible P6 (AQ) status.

The argument that the MW might be making
$3M/Member in the next media deal and thus any member of the MW will not add value if added to the AAC is an irrational statement.

No new member addition to any conference was making what their value became after being added to a new conference, never.

BYU, AF, BSU, and SDSU from the West will all ad value, I dare to say that even 4-5 teams East of the Mississippi will add value to the AAC.

Most of the largest Urban Markets and Universities are in the east as are the largest Enrollments.

Who are the schools east of the MS & south of Philly that could add value to the AAC?

There are lots of 'em. lol....the problem is they are all in the SEC or ACC. 04-cheers

You forgot the Big 10, oh wait that far North does not compute with folks from Texas??

I was thinking Army, but that is only because we don't mind the rough play 03-nutkick

Though I think we should try to nail down those two, and then ask one last time if BYU wants to join.

I tend to agree on being proactive, but that will require ESPN being willing to put out 5 to 7+ mil per year for each school added depending on whether it is FB only or all sports, and those schools being willing to come. I have real doubts ESPN is interested in forking out the cash for the schools listed.

Especially when they were only willing to pay them less than $2 million today. $6 million vs $21 million if they come to the aac as a 3 team combo.

I think ESPN will only want 1 team. Too bad we can't dump a team to do a combo of Boise and one of these Air Force/Colorado State/SDSU

Being that far north will become less of an issue as the income from the media deal continues to increase.

I really don't see the current contract running the full 12 years as is, too much will happen before then. This contract will be negotiated by 2026 one way or the other, it just won't stay as is for 12 years.

The AAC will only lose 1 or 2 teams in the next realignment if the B-12 expands back to 12 depending on whether the B-12 takes on BYU, Temple won't be going anywhere. In that case the AAC takes UConn FB back along with UMass or Army to get back to 12 and reestablish the Northern Corridor again. Texas and Oklahoma aren't leaving the B-12 to play second fiddle in another conference especially when they have an easier path to the CFP through the B-12. ESPN will pay them to stay there. Expect the Longhorn Network to become the Longhorn / Sooner Network or the Red River Network to keep them there. 04-jawdrop 02-13-banana 02-13-banana 04-bow 01-ncaabbs COGS COGS 04-cheers

No way we would take UConn football only. There are countless options that are better than UConn. They would be like #28 on a list. They are so bad the c-usa, Sunbelt, or Mac has no interest in fb only UConn.

Not what I said. Temple will find out soon enough how being farthest from everyone else is

Doesn't really matter, Temple doesn't have anywhere to go. Aside from maybe going back to 12, the AAC's likely going to be unchanged into the 30s unless the Big 12 breaks up.

We have airports close by..

Temple is happy to be in an all sports conference. FB will never go Indy again.

Good luck, you'll need it.

Temple would absolutely look at independence if the AAC is eventually picked apart by expansion and they are one of the teams left behind.

UConn did not plan on independence, y’all wanted football to stay in the American. When we said no thanks, UConn applied to the MAC and CUSA who also said no thanks. Independent football is Plan D for the Huskies. Why would Temple do anything as self destructive?

UConn’s issues are more connected to FCS level football recruiting than being far from other conference teams. As we saw a few days ago, those recruiting issues aren’t getting better—and may get even worse with the current mass exodus of kids leaving the program. At this point—UConns only hope is the transfer portal.

In that scenario i'd take UMass and Buffalo full sports and leave UConn to follow its chosen path... They've made a "solid, thought out" decision, according to former administrators that made that decision on the way out of the door.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I would guess that Malenko is under age 40. Anyone with a longer memory would know that football would fold if being indy were anything other than a temporary gap.

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

I really believe the money per team will not change. Unless there is another reason to add another football school, per ESPiN, no need right now.

Until the SEC/CBS news I truly believed that one of AF/SDSU would be added for football only at a minimum...NOW... Not so much.

Being that far north will become less of an issue as the income from the media deal continues to increase.

I really don't see the current contract running the full 12 years as is, too much will happen before then. This contract will be negotiated by 2026 one way or the other, it just won't stay as is for 12 years.

Yep, last I looked in the map, Philly was just west of Annapolis....

Can you provide any links related to UConn's applying for MAC or CUSA football membership? This is news to me.
