National Signing Day 2020 Pt1
A thread for LOI confirmation and general accounting for the conference.

I'll try to keep a neat summary here in the first post over time.

The Hokies picked up 2 late commits to make it 14. Twelve are signed, two long-time commits haven't yet. All players so far are 3-star, no blue-chips at all (so far).

A 3 star that stays 4-5 years is as good as a 4-5 star that’s gone after 3 or a primadonna that is a cancer.

RE: National Signing Day 2020 Pt1
Albany Casey is blueshirting for GT and will count against next year's class.

Gibbs, the high 4* RB being aggressively sought after by Ohio State, Alabama, and Florida won't sign until Feb but remains committed.

Jeff Sims, the former FSU 4* QB commit, signed his LOI at GT.

The GT class currently stands at #23, 4th in the ACC, with at least one major blue chip recruit still to sign in February. They're still fighting to get Jayson Jones flipped from Alabama by February as well.

Counting transfers this makes 9 4*+ players who will be playing in Gold next year with the potential to tack on as many as 3 more.

Everyone committed except has signed except WR Ajou Ajou, and he is expected to sign late this afternoon from his home in Alberta.

Flipped 4 star Safety Malcolm Greene from LSU. Guess he wanted to play in the real Death Valley.

Still ranked the #1 class in the country.

16 of our 23 commits are enrolling in January and will go through the entire off season workout program and spring ball.

Today is Brent Venables birthday. Getting a defensive class like he just got is an awful thoughtful present.

Running back Chris Tyree (No. 20 overall) signs with @NDFootball.

1st top-25 recruit for the Fighting Irish since 2013 and highest-rated skill-position player since 2007 (Jimmy Clausen No. 9 and Golden Tate No. 11) pic.twitter.com/Uitb8roV1x

— ESPN Stats & Info (@ESPNStatsInfo) December 18, 2019

WR Jordan Johnson becomes Notre Dame's highest-rated WR recruit since Brian Kelly took over in 2010. At No. 47 overall he is the 1st top-50 WR recruit since 2009.

Tyree and Johnson mark the 1st time in ESPN 300 era Notre Dame has signed a top-50 WR and RB in the same class.

Syracuse #53
Wake #54
Duke #55
UVA #60
VT #61
BC #62

All of these teams are presently behind at least one AAC team. Some are behind several. That's called talent bleed out at this level unless you have an incredible scheme or an incredible developmental program. The only team I know that is consistently good while being that low in recruiting is Utah. And Kyle Wittingham is probably the most underappreciated developmental coach in the country. And also a terrible recruiter.

If I were the 2 Virginia schools I don’t think I would worry too much. Bronco seems to be a good developer of talent while VT just has a good program that makes good kids better.

UVA, VT, and BC also signed the smallest classes in the ACC so far this year. I wouldn't read into it too much.

For VT, we graduated 5 seniors and return 21 of 22 starters, so the carrot of competing for immediate playing time wasn't an option. This was always going to be a smaller class that targeted a couple positions of need like RB and DE (8 of 15 signees were those two positions).

The 2021 class is trending towards a top-20 ranking and is going to be much bigger numbers-wise. Plus, one of the top dual-threat QBs in the country is committed to VT. The 2020 class is more of an aberration for VT, as Fuente's classes have hovered around the top-25 for the previous three cycles.

Also announced today that DL Coach Todd Bates will be the new Recruiting Coordinator, replacing QB Coach Brandon Streeter who becomes the Passing Game Coordinator.

https://www.tigernet.com/update/Clemson-...ator-34572

247 has Bates ranked as the #2 recruiter in the country this year.

Nah. You can see them next year in the Valley. They'll be the ones wearing orange in your backfield.

Possible, but not likely. With the way we rotate players we haven't had much of a problem with that. You come to Clemson and do the work and you get to play, and not just in mop up situations, in actual live game situations.
