Wichita State will be the only with a true shot and that's because when we play them Wiseman won't be able to, and it's at WSU where they hardly ever lose.

But then again, we just snapped the nation's longest home winning streak at 31. So anything is possible.

After watching this teàm grow and mature so fast, I predict a 17-1 conference record for Memphis in the AAC and a Conference championship, a 30-1 overall record and a #1 seed.

There's just nobody in the AAC on the same talent level nor have the depth as this Memphis team does. Wiseman is a generational talent that college basketball rarely sees.
Math doesn't add up... Unless you find a way to get rid of the Oregon loss, finishing 17-1 in conference won't get you to 30-1....

I'd expect 2-3 losses in conference. There will be off days. But 2-3 losses could still mean winning the conference by multiple games. It is sad that Wiseman won't get to play in Wichita though. Wanted to watch that and didn't want any built in excuses if Wichita pulls that off

My guess is that the Tigers will lose at Wichita and probably at Houston, with two other tough road games at Cincy and UConn (we don't play at Temple this year) resulting in a conference record of 16-2, 15-3, or 14-4, and overall 28-3, 27-4, or 26-5.

Have you been paying attention to this team and this conference? They aren't losing 2, 3 or especially 4 in this weak conference this year.

This ain't a Josh Pastner coached team nor is it typical freshmen. These are NBA prospects.

We were NOT supposed to be 9-1 at this point, according to the "experts", because of the Wiseman suspension plus the injury to Quinones. But we're developing, growing, jelling, getting better and winning tough hard fought games, especially in hostile environments. And all without our two best players.

We are overachieving at this point.

Penny is shutting the doubters up about his coaching ability. Some are taking notice and even mentioning him in the COY discussion.

Wait till Quinones and Wiseman return. Nobody will be able to handle us. Hell they can't beat us now!

Yes, I have been paying attention. Wichita is really good and a tough place to play. Without Wiseman, Memphis has to be the underdog in that game. Could they pull a surprise and win it? Sure, but right now I don't expect it.

And of the other three tough games, it's likely we'll lose 1 to 3 of them. Again, it's possible that we'll win all of them; but it's tough to see a team of freshmen -- even this exceptional group of freshmen -- not having a clunker or two over the course of a season.

Memphis is not a complete team yet...We have our warts as well

They could easily lose 4 in conference if they play poorly.

A team that shoots it well from outside will get good looks and if Memphis cannot start scoring better in the 1/2 court it will have scoring droughts.

I guess Pesik thinks Houston won’t lose in conference play, unless opponent plays zone. He should be concerned about Houston only scoring 19-points in the first-half. Very tunneled-vision. Don’t want to bust his bubble.
Memphis is the only team with multiple Q1 wins (Plus a Q2 victory)... You can say a lot of things about them, but saying they haven't played a lot of good competition isn't one of them

Wiseman and Quinones fix those issues.

Memphis without those two are already a top 10 team.

Memphis with those two are National champion contenders.

Not my opinion either. That's what the experts are all saying.

You can be a national title contender and still drop 2,3 or 4 games in conference. Happens every year

True, if you're in a power conference. Not if you're in the AAC.

Memphis has beaten #19 Tennessee on the road, Ole Miss at home, and NC State on a neutral court. All three of those teams are better than anyone in this conference, minus WSU.

maybe true.. but road games are hard, and freshman become freshman at times. It's hard to win a bunch in a row especially as we get into the meat of the season where you are playing multiple games a week every week

And while Tennessee is probably better than anyone, I wouldn't toss NC State and Ole Miss in the category of better than anyone else in the AAC. They would be mid to upper tier likely. KenPom has NC State as basically equal to Wichita and Houston. Ole Miss would be 7th per KenPom

That's a fair assessment. As much as I want to be a Memphis Homer, I didn't honestly expect our Freshmen to be able to handle TN. It was ugly, but somehow we survived.

Not sure we can handle that at WSU without Wiseman.
I don't mean that as an excuse. More like...what the heck are we going to look like after Wiseman rejoins the lineup?

Believe Oregon beat Memphis. Oregon already lost to two other teams. How is that good? Tennessee and N.Carolina State way overrated. Memphis only scored 51 points against Tennessee. Both Tenn. and N. Carolina State wouldn’t even be among AAC’s top 6 team. Shouldn’t brag about beating Ole Miss. by 1-point at home, especially when Mississippi rated 70th in the nation.

Memphis among nation’s worse in turnovers and personal fouls. Those stats big factors in outcome of games. Memphis rated 260 in the nation in made three’s. Admit that Wiseman will help.

Trollololol. You know what stat is a big factor in the outcome of games - the final score.

OSU is a pretty good defensive team (based on KP). Just try to give a little credit to your opponent once in a while instead of always making it about Houston being "off".

And also, you did try to prop up Illinois State earlier this year. They are definitely hot garbage. Always has been, always will be.

that isnt even remotely true..

so when Wichita went 1-22 against TSU and i was posting defending wichita (in a thread you were in) that i loved everything i saw from wichita despite it being a close game..that wichita wont go 1-21 every game or likely again...but putting a defensive game like they did while not having offensive momentum is extremely impressive....

we are just going to ignore that??????-- i cap for everyone the same way i cap for houston, but everyone memories seem to be fuzzy

and the point of my post wasnt that houston lost becuase we had an off night..but that houston isnt a great 3pt shooting team, and we will have lots of off-nights from 3 ... ok state as they are now (without their best/only good perimeter defender) chose zone, and gave up a ton of 3s...houston a not good 3pt shooting team isnt built to take advantage of that ..Wichita has lots of 3pt shooters would feast on that

It's not a big deal. It's just that you do use it a lot. You used it last year too. And no, not every team can play perfect every single game. Of course there are gonna be off nights. It just seemed like that line is used every time Houston loses. WSU was probably off against TSU, but I think they also had a say in that as well.

i rarely even use houston has an "off night" ...oregon i didnt even say anything i just accepted they were the better team...and felt good that caleb mills had a good game

with ok state..my point wasnt that we had an offnight, and thats why we lost.. it was that they ran a zone.. they gave us 3s, we took them and we couldnt make it..im not saying "not making 3s" is the reason we lost...but that we have to find a different way to attack the zone, we dont have shooters to rely on 3s vs the zone ...we have to come up with a new formula to attack the zone..same thing happened vs byu--

almost all were long 2s and 3s

interesting fact, all 3 loses houston played, all 3 ran zone the majority of the game (including oregon)

i posted this in the last page...it will be curious how teams prepare for houston. only 4 games left in houstons schedule are team that run zone (tulsa, tulane and Washington) everyone else runs man to man...curious if the remaining 20-ish teams stick to their strength (man to man) or play to houstons weakness (and play zone, even if they arent good at it)

Sucks Houston didn't pull that off. Kelvin Sampson I personally have full faith in that guy.

A Racing Motor always has a kink or two to work out. Sampson will work it out.

Houston is in the same boat Wichita State was in last year. they are still learning to play with one another and find their groove. this roster is their best and better by all accounts than last year unfortunately it takes time to play together like they should.
later in the year we will be pretty good and next year we should be a beast if everyone returns. i doubt it though i expect us to lose grimes if he has a good year.

Just thought that some Memphis fans are being a little too cocky. Just wanted to tweak them a little. Talent alone is not enough. When they play experienced teams with talent, their committing excessive fouls and turnovers could prove costly. Wiseman picking up two early fouls in Oregon game proved costly.

I’ve been critical of Temple. Temple has lots of upside, but has to prove it in conference play.

Lots of very good teams in AAC. Very competitive and deep conference.

Wichita State very tough team with excellent offensive and defensive schemes. Shooting could be stronger. Like the way Connecticut plays.
