Totally agree. Right now is not the time to be taking on projects that would make the AAC look small time in thinking. We have to go for the last few tweener brands that match our own in growth potential, personal animosity aside(looking at you Boise).

Revised TV deal coming

Boise would take some Ls in the AAC, but what’s the great advantage of adding another team (if not required)? If it’s required for our TV contract or means more money....ok. Are we gonna get a real power conference designation and better bowl tie ins? I’m all for getting better as a conference; however, we’ve (as a conference) already taken pretty good hold of the G5 spot for an 8 team playoff. Might as well let BSU or whoever else test their luck from the outside.

Article: New AAC TV deal provides more money to ECU, but also challenges
So we're basically shelling out $300k but getting a $5 million bump every year. Also about a $1 million one time cost to upgrade the broadcast booth. I'll take it.
Exactly. I posted that primarily to respond to those claiming ours ESPN+ production costs would be “2 million a year”. This is the first widely reported fairly difinitive word from inside the conference on the amount of those costs. Frankly—that’s about where I thought they would be.
How are we coming up with the 45 games? I understand the the conference will be covering production for football, we will produce basketball that doesn't end up on regular channels, but what about baseball (35ish home games plus postseason) + whatever garbage sports (womens bball, soccer, softball, etc) ESPN wants us to throw on Plus?
Not saying we'd jump to $2m, but I would think that there would be more contests that the schools would produce for other sports.

Conference also handles postseason. If 45 is the number he put out there then that's what he's been told. IIRC, the AAC isn't expected to produce 1,000 events at one time...phased in.

I love it. I got mine from Best Buy on Black Friday. I feel as though I stole it. Coming from a Note 8 the only thing I was missing was The edge functionality. Got an app the took care of that and it has been gravy.

So, it's not $2M per year to produce ESPN+ games? Color me shocked!
Somebody should look up all the old posts and ban everybody who said that.
Oh I'm sure the realignment board still believes that's true.
The clueless MW fanboy keyboard warriors on the Mountain West board are absolutely certain of it.
Some folks don't seem to understand time value, inflation, economics... CUSA admin talking about production costs is the same way...even though schools are already producing for ESPN3. Where do folks think this is headed? Eventually, EVERYONE will be producing games. Might as well get paid to upgrade infrastructure and work out kinks now vs. playing catch up and spending more later.
I will say the Big 12 putting games on ESPN+ will help for a better fan experience. Their bigger fanbases will not only drive more subscriptions, but will force ESPN to fix glitches faster for a better product.

Colorado St has built the facilities but they cant hire a good coach if their life depended on it.... adn I dont think Addazio is the answer either... BUT UNLV has a co-branded stadium that is freaking awesome, right off the strip and just landed one of the hottest Coordinators on the market.
I am not saying we should add them, but I think all the pieces are moving in the right direction for them to become something. IF they can put together 2 really good years in a row, then moving them into the AAC while they are hot may help them continue that upward trajectory.... and once they are in, then SDSU also becomes a possibility.
I wish UNLV had the level of Basketball they used to, because down the road a strong UNLV and SDSU addition would make the AAC one of the premier conferences, but its been a long time since the Running Rebels were NCAA tourney locks each year. I do miss the ol towel biter.

For a while there, they were selling out and doing really well... and then they had a bad hire in Bobo, and honestly, I am not in love with their new hire. They had a chance to lock in some great choices and went and got Boston Colleges reject. I think they sealed their fate with that move.
BYU is coming and I dont care. Yes they could have helped us with P6 Status, but well get it on our own and they will still be an indy begging for attention.
Really the options are Boise as a football only, which will require them to do a big Mi Culpa, get some humility and come over (which I dont think will happen) or we get Air Force, which I think is the most likely option.
I do love SDSU, BUT thats too far out unless we add three and then the problem becomes...WHos the other two?
SDSU football only is not a travel issue, football is one chartered flight away that pays for itself.

Where does Colorado fall with regard to recruit sourcing? I know where Texas and Florida land.

Taking loses isn't the issue. The issue is consolidating all of the last acceptable brands outside of the p5 that can push the perception of the AAC to an acceptable level to pass the eye test with the powers that be while destroying any competition for the ny6 bowl and hopefully soon a playoff spot in an expanded 8 team system. Even now the yearly battle for the ny6 bowl isn't a g5 battle, it's an AAC vs Boise battle. From a business perspective this is very telling. To me it's not about if but when this is rectified.

UCF and Houston were already on the rise before they came to the conference. Memphis football obviously has upped their game, but they were already a great basketball program (that had fallen back a bit thanks to sanctions and a poor hire).
These schools also weren't geographic reaches either.

I agree. An AAC with Boise and BYU would all but lock out the G4 conferences. At that point, an argument, at the very least, could be made to give us an automatic spot in a non-playoff NY6 bowl.
Beyond that, it would also give us a better shot at producing a top 8 team, just cuz who knows when that might be beneificial.

Yeah and I suspect Memphis would probably rather be in the east in that configuration and I suspect Tulane would rather be with the group of Private schools in the west.

Tulane isn't really a shotcaller in the AAC from what I understand. Also, we are a small private school with a national alumni spread. We are therefore VERY flexible in terms of placement.

The fact that Colorado State's Athletic Director recently interviewed for the same position at Cincinnati would lead me to believe there is next to no chance they would be added to the AAC.

If only to get away from playing Navy every year - lol. Nothing against the mids, the Tigers just haven't faired as well as others in that matchup.

this more accurately describes it. boise is being a flame of what it used to be just like byu.

Yeah that was kinda my point. We would need to be getting something out of adding Boise b/c our conference seems to have a pretty good claim to the NY6 bowl already without them.
IMO adding another team should only come as a requirement and/or a benefit (more $, auto NY6/8 team playoff spot, etc).
