We just are standing still and reaching on defense.

Murphy hurt again. Don't remember if it's the same leg but he's visibly upset.

Not that it's the reason why we're losing, but maybe scheduling a two week break in the middle of the season isn't a good idea.

Rice looks lost on offense. LU has totally flustered them. That can’t happen.

Peterson is 4-5, 3-4. Rest of the team is 6-30, 5-15. Won't win many games playing like that.

A deep Murphy 3 cuts it to 52-43 Lamar. Slightly better second half but we're going to need a lot more if we want to come back.

Rob 1-10 and he's continuing to hurt us. Not big enough to match Lamar's bigs or wings and offering nothing on offense.

Back to a 9 point game. 57-48. Peterson and Adams are 9-14, 6-8. Rest of team is 5-30, 4-16.

Mullins is showing nothing so far this year.

Just watch the way teams defend him. They'll let him take 8 threes a game if he wants to. He's quick enough to be an effective guard, but teams are going to sag off of him until he proves he can beat them in multiple ways.

Gonna be a loss and a bad one. Defense wasn't good enough. Offense was stale. Bad scheduling decisions. Just a bad Rice basketball day all around. Never going to take the next steps if we're losing to Lamar and Texas Southern in the same day.

Just a terrible effort overall. Petersen the only semi bright spot. Re:Mullins, last year he was good at penetrating and making the 10-12 foot shot. This year he isn’t even attempting these shots.

Becomes all about bouncing back now. Can't lose back to back to Lamar and HBU.

We usually can produce a stinker this time of year coming after finals. Today, we did it both in men's and women's basketball.

Ako was 4-5 from 3 pt range, so maybe another semi bright spot, but agree it was a terrible effort overall. Made LU look a lot quicker and more athletic than they probably are with the Owls poor play.

RE: Rice MBB at Lamar
Looking through the box, I realize it was a poor effort, but I'm actually less worried about the men's ability to bounce back and have a good year than the women (who are in a deep funk that will be tough to come back from). Rob Martin had an uncharacteristically poor game - he'll be fine. You have to think Murphy was rusty from his layoff. And Lamar's physicality is not something we'll see much of in conference play. If the men lose against HBU - that's a major red flag. But otherwise we still are in shape to be at least a .500 team or better in CUSA play, which has to be the goal at this point. Winning the remainder of the non-conference games is a must though, IMO.

Speaking of the conference, Western Kentucky had a big overtime win at home yesterday against previously undefeated Arkansas. But it came at a big cost as their star Charles Bassey had a serious leg injury late in the game. They're still pretty decent without him, but I'd say even if he returns later in the year, he's probably out for our game there in early January (it looked to be a pretty serious injury and he's probably out at least a month, if not longer). UTSA and UNT look to be getting better after struggling earlier in the season. Still, our conference schedule isn't as hard as I originally though since most of the road games are now against the lower half of the conference, and our toughest games are primarily at home (outside of WKU and La Tech).

So we lose to Lamar Tech on the same day that Western Kentucky beats Arkansas, 86-79? Looking at he transitive properties here.... If they mean anything (which I realize they don’t) that means the Hilltoppers are 55 points better than we are. Lovely…

The girls lost a lot of seniors and leadership. Thus, I don’t think they will win the conference again but they should be alright by tournament time.

??? The women lost 3 players, two of whom came off the bench, while returning 4 starters and 2 of our 4 primary bench players.
