And maybe even a Utah loss.

Yes, most likely, but I think it’s all about style points this weekend.

Sets up as the best Championship Saturday of the CFP, with implications from 8pm Friday to 12am ET Saturday.

You are 100% delusional. App is absolutely positively out of it. They can't jump Cincy, who is playing #17 Memphis at Memphis, no matter how badly they crush Louisiana-Lafayette. Nobody cares about that at all, nor should they.

Last week App was 25th, and behind two 4-loss schools. This week they finally jumped USC (who won). If all of the planets align, we could still jump them. Cincinnati has played like garbage down the stretch. Beating USF and ECU by 3. Temple by 2. Why should they be ahead of us? They got the luxury of beating up an awful UCLA team at home. We got our two P5 wins on the road, and beat the second best team in our conference on the road. AP poll rightfully has us above them.

That's another thing: By moving Florida ahead of Penn State, the CFP has basically assured Florida, and the SEC, of the Orange Bowl spot, because neither Penn State nor Florida have any games left to play.

So it is now a near-certainty that the SEC will get the Orange Bowl spot.

What is really unknown here is who will get the at-large Cotton Bowl spot to face the G5 rep?

It could be the loser of Baylor/Oklahoma.
It could be Utah, if they lose to Oregon.
It could be Wisconsin, if they barely lose to Ohio State and don't drop far.
It could be Auburn, if Wisconsin falls behind them.

Lots of possibilities for the Cotton Bowl.

And hey, I sympathize with you. I agree, the CFP has overrated Cincy. They are three spots higher than their MC rating. Maybe the Aresco propaganda has worked? But for whatever reason, you are screwed.

Let this sink in: There is NO WAY that Cincy, already ranked ahead of App State, is going to FALL BEHIND App State if they beat the #16 team on the road while App State beats a nobody.

NO WAY.

If Boise blows out Hawaii by 50 & UC sneaks past Memphis by only 1-point I still think UC gets the nod to the Cotton Bowl because a road win over #17 Memphis is always going to trump a home win vs Hawaii on the smurf turf, style points notwithstanding.

By that logic Georgia shouldn't be in the top 4 since it lost at home to South Carolina ... you know, the same team that App State beat on the road.

I like how they've set No. 6 Oklahoma up for the 4 spot. If it beats Baylor, great win over No. 7. And if that happens and No. 5 Utah also beats No. 13 Oregon ... "Sorry Utah, you only beat No 13. Not as impressive as beating No. 7."

Meanwhile, if Baylor beats OU, it'll get the Utah vs. OU treatment: "Impressive win, Baylor, but it's just not enough to justify dropping the winning team that's two spots ahead of you."

College football is a joke. Imagine if the NFL picked and chose its playoff teams at the end of the season. "I know the Cardinals are 12-4 but the NFC West is the weakest division. The Giants were 10-6 but played lots of tough teams. Let's go with the Giants."

Ranking behind Michigan is absurd. The AP, Coaches, and computers all have ND ranked ahead of Michigan.

For some reason, the CFP hates ND this year.

The fact that it’s Utah ahead of OU pretty much kills Baylor.

The NFL isn't perfect. Heck, my Rams have played a tougher schedule than the Cowboys, and we are 7-5 while the Cowboys are 6-6, but we are basically out of the playoffs whereas Dallas would be in if they started today. All because our division is monstrously tough while the NFC East is a joke this year.

I mean, the putrid 5-7 Eagles have a better chance of making the playoffs right now than do the Rams. That's borked. We sure could use a committee to rectify that, LOL.

The "nobody" is 10-2. It's a shame that the Cajuns aren't ranked. Their only loses were to Mississippi State and us.

The committee's problem is that they focus on losses too much. It's why Penn State got screwed over in 2016 in favor of Ohio State despite beating the Buckeyes and winning the B1G. The GS loss crippled us, but App should not be below a 2 loss G5, regardless of the teams they lost to.

As for Aresco, he is giving the AAC some clout. It's a shame that the Sun Belt has an invisible Commissioner right now.

Like I said, I agree with you. Cincy should be ranked behind App State right now, and thus App State should have a chance to get the NY6 bid if they both win and Boise loses.

But that is not the reality of the situation. The reality is, App State has zero chance of getting the NY6 bid.

In no way can you justify a home loss to your rival with that kind of lead. One more chapter to perhaps right the ship here, but they’re gonna need Utah to win really ugly or lose. Let’s face it, the committee loves Utah. OU has every reason to be ahead of them but they aren’t, and it’s for exactly the reasons discussed.

Yeah if Ohio St is #1 and Utah is #4- Ohio St would definitely pick Peach there... Same with LSU obviously. And really even if opponent is Oklahoma or Baylor.

Ohio State has a massive alumni presence in Phoenix. I highly doubt they wouldn't have homefield advantage there against anyone.

Michigan 45, Notre Dame 14

I'd pull the credentials of those rating Notre Dame ahead of Michigan. It's not like comparing Georgia to South Carolina and a 6 game difference in wins, it's one game.

Notre Dame had a much weaker schedule than Michigan. Michigan lost to three teams that are in the top 10. They beat two teams that are directly behind them in the standings.

Notre Dame's best win? USC at 8-4.

Notre Dame got routed once. Michigan has been routed twice. Michigan got beat solidly by Penn State. Notre Dame played a closer game vs Georgia.

ND vs Michigan would be a close call if Michigan had two losses. With three losses to two, ND is the obvious choice over Michigan - to the whole world but the CFP.

One of the site assignment criteria for the CFP committee is familiarity with the facility. Ohio state has played in the Fiesta Bowl a lot here recently. They've never played in Mercedes Benz.

FWIW all I have read from Ohio State fans is they expect the Fiesta Bowl regardless of opponent for the factors I mentioned above.
