FSU isn't some tomato can posing as a P5 school. They aren't like the dregs in any way. The grass is greener at FSU - unlike at Arky or Ole Miss.

I don't think many Memphis fans would wish ill on Norvell taking the FSU job.

Ole Miss, there would be a nuclear reaction.

FSU? Bye, thanks, next up.

The other job possibilities for Norvell, I'm not convinced he would take. We have a lot coming back, and MN has mentioned privately that he thinks we will be better next year, so he can afford to sit and wait on an FSU-like job next time around.

IMO, Arky and Ole Miss are dead end jobs in the SEC West. Missouri, I think he would take, but they seem to be going in a different direction.

Either way---Memphis has done a great job hanging onto him longer than I thought they would be able to...and they may yet get another year---who knows?

Agreed, I hope u guys win the conference and win the NY6 bowl game. I’ll always respect Frost for coaching the bowl game. I had no problem rooting for Frost after he delivered a perfect season and came back to see it all the way through. Hope Norvell follows the classy example!

RE: Norvell to FSU?
lots of big jobs open...FSU, USC, Washington, Ole Miss, Mizzou, etc.

chances are Norvell will make the jump.

I want former Memphis OC Clay Helton to return and lead the Tigers to 10-11 win seasons like he did at USC.

if not Helton, Chip Long from ND (also a former Memphis OC)

Mike Norvell is not your typical 'follow the money' type of guy. He has morals.

Norvell currently is making $2.5 million a year. He'll now be able to receive a major boost by UofM to around $3.6 to as much as $4 million with incentives that will keep him happy, to feel appreciated and enough to pay his assistant coaches.

Norvell knows and loves the unique Memphis culture. Unlike Fuente who left for first offer to get out.

His wife loves Memphis. He calls himself a "Memphian".

Plus he has a rare good friendship with Penny and they support each other. Penny will tell our AD Veatch to pay Mike.

UofM also is completing our new IPF this spring that will impact recruiting. Our football facilities are now on par with many P5 programs.

We have national TV exposure (4 games this year on ABC), recruiting and a passionate growing fanbase and winning culture that he helped to build.

I sure hope not...last time we went for a 'recruiter' who 'understands the job' we ended up with Larry Porter.

Clay Helton or Chip Long for me.

Switch Memphis to Houston and Norvell to Tom Herman , in that paragraph and I swear that’s what Houston fans were saying in 2016. He gone ,but until then, just enjoy the ride.

I don’t really have an opinion on if he would be good to promote or not but porter wasn’t even an associate HC. Dude was just a RB coach.

I dunno man I don’t think Memphis fans think he won’t leave. They just think based on the team we have returning and how he “seems” to feel about Memphis we don’t expect him to leave for some bottom feeder sec school. We will see soon enough if a mizzou level school can pull him if someplace like FSU doesn’t come after him. I don’t think anyone thinks he would turn Texas down like Houston thought with Herman. We have already kept him longer than expected also which lends itself to the belief he is waiting for a decent offer and not just any ticket out of town. But if he does leave as long as it’s not to something like Ole miss I think the overwhelming majority would wish him well and probably root for him if not playing us. He seems to be doing it the right away unlike Fuentes mid season deal with Va Tech after which it seemed like the team lost focus.

I think if he loses to Cincy he's going to go. 3 years in the championship and losing all three would be hard for anybody.

One key difference.. if we can whether the storm and keep him for about 2 more seasons, his daughter (from what I've heard on the interwebs and radio) is about to turn 5 or 6. If we can get her in a good school and make a friend or two.... "You MONSTER!!! You want to RIP our Daughter out of a school she loves, from her friends???" 03-weeping

RE: Norvell to FSU?
My opinion is worth as much as you are about to pay for it.

Man's gotta' do what a man's gotta' do. FSU is a legit destination coaching job, and USC.

Arkansas and Ole Miss are graveyard SEC coaching jobs, but I never discount the fact the wife's family lives 1 hour from Fayettville, AR.

Norvell has made it clear he understands the grass isn't greener on the other side. Norvell signed a 2nd contract with Memphis. That doesn't give me false hope, but it puts him a seperate League of previous successfull AAC coaches. Speculate all you want from there.

At the very least offer the man the Highest G5 compensation package if he's expected to compete for the NY6 Bowl.

Fsu and to a lesser extent Washington are the only jobs available that aren’t dead end jobs.
