Sure some will insist I picked North Texas because they are my team, and they are free to express those opinions. To those fans I will just say, if I determined there was a team with a better path to winning C-USA, my ranking would be different.
So, why is North Texas my top ranked team... well there are several reasons. First North Texas is flat out loaded on offense. No team in C-USA brings back more offensive starters than UNT, and the Mean Green were tied with FIU as the top scoring offense in C-USA last season. Second, for the first time since Mason Fine took his first snap at North Texas the Mean Green will feature an offensive line that will be a strength for the team. Third, Littrell has improved recruiting and brought in quality transfers to plug positions of need, mostly on defense. Forth, North Texas finally has depth on offense and defense. The player recruited over the last few seasons are growing into solid FBS players in the North Texas strength and conditioning program. High quality transfers from good P5 programs are coming to add depth at key positions, not necessarily to start for the Mean Green. Fifth, While I expect the North Texas offense to be the best offense in C-USA, I also believe the defense will be better than most, and again rank within the top 5 in scoring defense. And finally, while I really see North Texas and FIU being really close this season, I had to give North Texas the edge in the championship game due to the road each will take in the final weeks of the regular season. Both come off the same bye week, but while FIU has to play what will probably be a very good/ranked Miami team, and travel to my #3 Marshall in the final 2 weeks of the season, North Texas gets the luxury of a road game at my #11 team Rice, before finishing the season by host my #7 team UAB, a program that should be somewhat down after the loss of several seniors. I just feel North Texas will be the healthier team should the 2 meet for the title.
My prediction for North Texas 11-1 (8-0)

For the record, I am predicting the eastern division to be stronger in 2019. I believe the eastern schools will finish with a 42-42 regular season record, while I believe the western schools will finish 39-45. But, I think the west will have 4 teams finish bowl eligible, while I think the east finishes with just 3. If that sounds confusing, it will make more sense once all of my schedule breakdowns have been posted.
My C-USA Ranking Prediction
1. North Texas 11-1 (8-0)
2. FIU 11-1 (8-0)
3. Marshall 9-3 (7-1)
4. FAU 8-4 (6-2)
5. Southern Miss 7-5 (6-2)
6. LA Tech 7-5 (4-4)
7. UAB 7-5 (4-4)
8. WKU 5-7 (4-4)
9. Charlotte 5-7 (3-5)
10. Middle Tennessee 3-9 (2-6)
11. Rice 2-10 (2-6)
12. UTEP 3-9 (1-7)
13. UTSA 2-10 (1-7)
14. ODU 1-11 (0-8)
Today I start with the team I believe will be the worst in C-USA this season... ODU.
Last season, I predicted ODU to finish 6-6, but they actually finished 4-8, with impressive wins over Virginia Tech and North Texas. I still don't understand how ODU lost to Liberty, ECU, or Rice.
2019- In my opinion, Bobby Wilder should have been let go after last season. Overall, I think his 2018 team under preformed, and now he will be faced with the challenge of leading a much less experienced team. I think Wilder has the toughest job in C-USA this season. He will have to coach what is left of a 4 win team with the fewest number returning starter (8) in C-USA. Two P5 road trips early in the season will probably place them behind the eight ball. Plus, aside from ODU and MT, I see every team in C-USA East getting better this year. I don't have a lot of confidence in ODU posting a winning record, and have them ranked last in C-USA East, and C-USA overall.

Joe takes a lot of unnecessary crap on this board.
I'm a fan of his posts and team predictions. Keep them coming Joe!
Aside from FIU and UNT, they weren't that far off.

Okay Joe....I think some of these people with shiny reviews are honestly on crack, because I think most of your predictions were downright awful. LOLl! Especially your predictions for UNT. OH man...
For the record, I did not enjoy seeing the Mean Green implode this season. But I was NOT surprised. When UNT came to Ruston, many of us talked about how small UNT's team was. UNT will need more size to compete in CUSA.
Anyway, your posts honestly give me something to laugh at. I mean that in a nice way. You're the ultimate fan"! You're full of crap most of the time, but most of us fans are anyway. I figure any day now you'll start a new thread telling us how great UNT's 2020 recruiting class is, and how UNT has 35 verbal commitments from nothing but 4 star and 5 star athletes. Keep 'em coming!

RE: 2019 Schedule Breakdowns: North Texas
Time to face the music. Here are my prediction against the actual results. Swing away....
My C-USA Ranking Prediction Reality
1. North Texas 11-1 (8-0) 4-8 (3-5) It was a total disaster, and heads need to roll
2. FIU 11-1 (8-0) 6-6 (3-5) Not even close to my expectations
3. Marshall 9-3 (7-1) 8-4 (6-2) Close
4. FAU 8-4 (6-2) 9-3 (7-1) Close, but I didn't expect them to win the East
5. Southern Miss 7-5 (6-2) 7-5 (5-3) About where I expected them
6. LA Tech 7-5 (4-4) 9-3 (6-2) Very impressive season until character issues cost them
7. UAB 7-5 (4-4) 9-3 (6-2) I didn't think Clark could do it, but he's still the best coach in C-USA
8. WKU 5-7 (4-4) 8-4 (6-2) Improved more than I thought they would
9. Charlotte 5-7 (3-5) 7-5 (5-3) Also improved more than I expected
10. Middle Tennessee 3-9 (2-6) 4-8 (3-5) About where I saw them falling
11. Rice 2-10 (2-6) 3-9 (3-5) They have improved more than their record indicates
12. UTEP 3-9 (1-7) 1-11 (0-8) Wow, zero for a weak C-USA
13. UTSA 2-10 (1-7) 4-8 (3-5) A little better than I thought, but not enough to justify keeping Wilson
14. ODU 1-11 (0-8) 1-11 (0-8) Who will be the new coach?

For the record, I am predicting the eastern division to be stronger in 2019. I believe the eastern schools will finish with a 42-42 regular season record, while I believe the western schools will finish 39-45. But, I think the west will have 4 teams finish bowl eligible, while I think the east finishes with just 3. If that sounds confusing, it will make more sense once all of my schedule breakdowns have been posted.
My C-USA Ranking Prediction
1. North Texas 11-1 (8-0)
2. FIU 11-1 (8-0)
3. Marshall 9-3 (7-1)

Well done Sideways Joe. It was a bold prediction that I took exception to, but you nailed it man.
Thanks. Too bad my prediction for North Texas wasn't more accurate. I'll be tweaking my formula again this off season.
North Texas lost our highly regarded QB commit. Florida State made him an offer. Right now my focus is on pressuring our leadership to make the necessary changes to our coaching staff. You are right about our size issues. I noted as much today at the UAB game. The truth is we need bigger and better linemen, or our next QB will be scrapping himself off the turf just like Mason Fine was forced to do when he faced good defenses. We will also be looking for a new DC.
On a happier note... another North Texas booster donated $1,000,000 to the athletic department this week. We are still building new facilities and investing. So their are some positives.
We need to support our conference brethren, so I hope you enjoy watching the C-USA Championship Game next Saturday. I know I will.

I’ll pay attention to your prediction next year for ODU. Looking forward to it. And I’ll just read it and keep my mouth shut
Thanks. Best of luck in your coaching search. I hope ODU finds a diamond.

Having money and facilities has never been a problem for UNT. It doesn't surprise me at all that someone ponied up $1M to UNT's athletic Dept. Nevertheless, congratulations!

Sounds like someone still thinks you can out spend programs in CUSA and that equal wins. All I recall about UNT...
what seemed like a 1000 threads telling all of us they have the best staff money can buy. Everyone hired was a upgrade over the one that left. That 1.8 million on a coach must mean you have a great head coach
Money is not the part that pushes you over the top in the G5. Coaching matters. System matters. Recruiting to system matters more than recruiting rankings.
UNT failed at all of those
