Sadly, this isn't the worst loss in the McGrath era.
Furman beat us by 43 last year

I’d give the reigns to Eslick.
I told you so.
Hawking, just curious... What makes you feel like Esleeck being one chair over gives us a better chance to win? I don't doubt you're correct, just would like to know.
Because nobody can be worse than the guy we have now.
Esleeck will be a D1 HC someday.

We did not beat Davidson in a single statistic except personal fouls. Not one.

Fair enough. Just seems like he would have more input on the games if that was so. He's on the staff, been here for 3 years. If he's this good why hasn't he had more of an impact???

I think his point was that ANYBODY would be better because we honestly can't be worse.

I get that part, but the D1 HC part is what I question.

FIU gave NC State a game last week. They're one of the teams we'll play in DC next week

Gotcha'. Then, I agree. Though this may have been the worst move of his career if that was his goal. Can we all agree that former UNC coaches and players make awful head coaches in general?

Yes we can! Esleeck has UNC ties and the man he coached for at Mercer got fired...

As negative as I am about the ability of this Coaching Staff to implement/teach the athletes they selected to play good basketball, I am absolutely at a loss as to why we looked so terrible today. Especially as we did not play like a team and with the required guts. I knew our defense would get exposed by a well coached offensive team like Davidson but today was unforgivable in terms of preparation and discipline. Not hopeful but still a fan of course. Also...this playing 12 guys searching for combinations and answers has got to stop. Platooning only works if you are playing teams full court and pushing the pace. We do neither.

He had to completely abandon "UNC ball" and adopt "Keatts" ball to succeed. Seems McGrath would get the hint.

Well put. We looked lost the whole game. Our hoisting up 3s every time down the court with nobody that can rebound is not a good combination. We were down 9 points in the 2nd half and lost by 38... What in the world

Luka Brajkovic, the big guy for Davidson, averaged double figures as a freshman. Somehow there was an internet blurb that said his career high was 9. That was an error.
Carter Collins, a 6'2" guard, missed the UNCC game. He is Davidson's best defensive guard. Davidson's other starting guards are 6'4"-5" and don't have lateral quickness. He made a big difference on both ends of the court tonight.
Shykiem Phillips played well tonight. At one point in the 2nd half, UNCW was playing a lineup of Phillips, who had 8, and 4 guys who hadn't scored. He looks like Sideshow Bob.
Cal Freundlich, a senior walk on guard for Davidson, hit a 3 late in the game. His mother is actress Julianne Moore.

RE: @ Davidson (Saturday, Nov 16 - 7 PM)
It sounded bad on the radio in the 2nd half. Once we double the post, we got toasted. In a situation like that against a team like that, you're better off just not doubling or just doing it on occasion.
The offense sounded over the radio like we weren't playing together and sharing the ball, but I didn't see the game. That can be corrected with practice and we have great young men that are willing to share the ball.
Yes, a zone press or some type of pressure would suit this team to me. With nothing to lose in the 2nd half, it would have seemed like a good time to try it.
Does the staff go out and try to get another big to augment? And, that's not a knock on Linsen or Dodd either because both are progressing. You would think that would be a priority. Need to have a big guy that can defend in the post. That was a huge factor, but not the only one.

We have one good young man that is great at sharing the ball. We have another who is turning into a flat out stud, 3 games into the season. After that, we have another guy who proved himself as a freshman last year and can play quite well. After that, in the guards we have a bunch of guys that just take shots. We have one in particular that just shoots and shoots quick, and it’s been awful. We have a few others that can score but have cold nights regularly. Last night was one of those where they were all cold.
I agree with Hawking. Platooning and subbing so much is only going to work if we press and press a lot. Clearly coach isn’t going to do that, which, IMO will ultimately cost him his job. I’d bet if games keep looking like this he may not make it to the end of the season.
Last night was entirely unacceptable.

The offensive stat trending that is really bothering me though is the turnovers. We got away with it in the last game but we were still exposed. Good teams won’t allow us to get away with it like Campbell did.

I noticed the lazy passing in the Campbell game. And it carried over to the Davidson game. That can and should be corrected. I love how how fearless Phillips is. But at times he tries to do too much, resulting in freshman type mistakes. And we really miss Gadsden. Just don't know if his return will be enough. But it sure won't hurt. As of now, I had to just walk away from watching the game last night. Something that's very unusual for me.
