Exclamation If Norvell were to take another job, what would be the best way to do it?
I'm not claiming he's leaving and hope that he'll stay here at Memphis for the long haul, but I've been thinking. Were he to leave for another opening, what is the best way to do it?

Is there a way that he could leave where we would wish him well vs. everyone being forever mad?

The second a coach makes the decision he should disclose it in full

Let his current team know, let the local media know

Immediately discuss with the AD whether it is proper to coach the team the remainder of the current season

If all decide the coach should remain, the current school must immediately designate a recruiting supervisor so to speak and the outgoing coach should pledge to not talk to any recruits he initiated contact with while the current school was paying them

Build, rebuild or continue for the new school on THEIR dime

Don't steal the sno-cone machine. And don't tell us two days before you bolt that Memphis is where you want to be. And don't take our recruits.

I'm fine with anyone trying to elevate their position and will wish him well if/when he goes.

Yes, and you should add: Don't ask the basketball coach to pay your moving expenses.

Total heel turn. Double birds, Nashville Rules, Memphis Drools Suckers! I totally could have gone undefeated but I was betting against you losers in Tunica the whole time! See ya! *cracks open a European beer while two swimsuit models come from offstage, one in each arm, and the first strains of La Marseillaise begin and the French flag unfurls behind him. The he pulls off a hyper realistic face mask and it turns out it was actually John Calipari the whole time* And another thing, I took Rose's SAT for him, not because he needed me to, he actually would have passed. I just wanted to pull the rug out from you hayseeds to watch you suffer when I took off for Kentucky! It was all part of my plan! Mwuhahahahahahahaahahah *begins devouring snowcone after snowcone whole as they are dispensed from the snowcone machine* Mwuahahahahahahahah I told him to let Chalmers get a 3 off. And to miss those free throws! This was NEVER the place I wanted to be! ahAHAHHahahaHAhahahahH!

That would be epic

Take a note of how Scott Frost left UCF. That was class. Their fans may not know that word, but the coach did.

Only one way for me to be completely 100% ok with it.

Norvell: "if you are interested in me being your coach, contact me after the bowl game. If you really believe I am the guy you want to run your program, you can wait. If you choose not to wait, then it was not meant to be."

If I hear one whisper of Norvell discussing contracts or making agreements before the end of the bowl game, he can kiss my ass. I really don't think it will be much of a problem though.

Ideal, but not realistic.

He will leave here at some point. Anyone leaving to take another job, will have to negotiate that before the bowl season. The hiring and recruiting calendar is too tight.

Who are the top candidates for P5 jobs this year?

Norvell
Mark Stoops
Bob Stoops
Kiffin
Freeze
Les Miles

Who else you got? Want to know who we're pulling for in the other jobs.

"Thank you for the opportunity to be your coach at Memphis. I enjoyed my time here but I have to take this other job because I think it is better for my career and family. Good day."

I mean if you can't be flat our honest then just leave without saying a word.

The way Nebraska has performed is a major drag. Prospective schools are going to do everything in their power to get coaches to leave and recruit right away. Also, we all know that IF he goes to Arkansuck, they will do everything to put the gears to us.

If I remember correctly, when Roy Williams left Kansas for NC he told players and recruits that he would not be able to take them at NC.

I think Norvell and any other coach leaving a school should do the same. If he wants to leave early I wouldn’t like it but it might be less of a distraction leaving than staying and be bombarded with all the when, what, where, why questions brought on by the media.
