Wiggins, Smith, and Ogwumike were a combined 3-13 w/ 10 turnovers and we won by 24 while emptying the bench and testing rotations. I missed this feeling of optimism that we had last year with this team.

Back from the game. Mulkey looks great - a bit stronger on the rebounding end I'd say. I do wish she wouldn't rush some of her shots. There are maybe less than 5 or 6 players in the country who can block her shot, and none of them were suited up for Nicholls. Erica has an off game on the offensive end (she got her rebounds and assists), but she looked fine the other night against HBU. She'll be fine.
The freshmen all look good. It will be a fun year.

To people who were at the game, did Swayze look like she took a significant step over the offseason or did she just get a lot of really good looks? I remember her being a bit clumsy handling the ball last year.

She looked more confident operating within the offense. Also looked like she dropped some weight and gained more strength.
No matter who was on the floor they all ran the offense. There was no chaos as the bench emptied. This a huge plus for practices as the scrimmages should be very competitive.

That's good to hear. I'm sure the rotation will tighten up, but it's good to know that if 1 or 2 are having an off night you can sub in a couple other playerss who you're confident understand the system. We'll obviously live and die in big games by the Ogwumike/Mulkey/Wiggins/Smith combo, but depth is a luxury come conference play.

The freshman guards were pretty impressive but I know we played a lower level team. Jasmine Smith looks more mature and stronger this year. I wonder if Erica gained some weight. She didnt look as quick as last year but only the first game.

No. She just was in foul trouble and couldn't get going on the offensive end. Still looked good rebounding and in running the offense at times.
The only two worries I'd have about this team is (1) keeping Mulkey healthy and (2) Coach figuring out the proper rotation and bench usage. That's going to be tricky at times because of the depth. We'll have a better sense of how good we are against A&M. Georgia Tech also had a very easy win last night at home against Houston, so they might be a solid test too.
