Texas / OU doesnt even start before the first penalty flags are thrown --- classic.....

Prior to the kickoff in warmups the players kind of massed at midfield and jaws started flapping, and some apparent pushing and shoving.

In response, the officials impose a dual team wide Unsportsmanlike Conduct on *everyone* on each team. Wow.

Result is that *any* subsequent unsportsmanlike call gets the offender tossed from the game.

Amazing.

I dont think I have ever seen anything like that before.

I have never even heard of another team wide penalty --- let alone two of them at the same time. l"l

Flea flicker OU for a 51 yd td --- receiver caught it wide open at the 20; then proceeded to juke 4 defenders.

Impressive moves by OU receiver. Not so much by multiple UT defenders.

Same receiver -- catches it at the 7 in three defenders; then bulls through them all to the TD. Wow.

Receiver is CeeDee Lamb. Interesting first name. Has 3 TD catches so far today.

Full name is Cederian and he is from Richmond. FBO, any memories of him in HS?

Oklahoma appears to have put it away. Just made first down with 1:38 left and Texas is out of TOs.

ETA: OU runs out the clock, 34-27 final.

Couldn't help but notice how much the commentators have talked about how much Alex Grinch has improved the OU defense, particularly the play in the secondary. He's the guy that I wanted to bring in to replace Bailiff in 2017 or 2018 (maybe 2016 too, don't remember how early I became aware of him). Oh, well, OU is paying him $1.4 million as a DC, so he is now out of our price range. He's going to be a pretty hot commodity on the coaching market coming up. You take a guy who builds that kind of defense and has connections to the Chip Kelly, Mike Leach, and Lincoln Riley coaching trees to find an OC, and lots of schools will be interested in him as a head coach. Including of course OU, if Riley goes to the NFL.

The proof is look at the OU defense in todays game (and in this season) and compare it to last season.

Night and day.

OUs big chink in their Championship belt run last year was the utter lack of defense that characterized that team. Amazing job there.

Damn --- last two Saturdays the Rice games were viewed in less than optimal places, at far less than optimal local times, an in way less than optimal physical circumstances.

Now that I have the comfy chair (sofa actually) all available, and am sober enough to really enjoy a Rice game ---- its off week. <sigh>

Did Jerry Mack get a new job during the off week (St. Louis Cardinals hitting coach)? The Cards were being no-hit into the 8th inning last night and into the 7th today. They did end up getting 1 hit last night, and 3 hits and a run today, but they lose both games at home to Washington.

I keed, I keed about Coach Mack of course. But it's worth noting that the previous 20 times in the NLCS that a visiting team went on the road and won the first two games, that team ended up going to the World Series all 20 times.

Good point. Does “Maybe” apply to “we” or to “will”?

WKU on the verge of achieving more than a moral victory over Army. 17-0 with 4 minutes left.

FWIW:

[Image: western_kentucky_wbg.png]WKU 17

Just for some perspective, though, remember currently 0-6 Rice barely lost to them as well, holding Army to only 6 points more than WKU's defense did, so maybe this year's Army isn't as good as last year's:

Hard to say if this is encouraging or not. How close are we to being the best in CUSA, or how close is the best in CUSA to being among the worst in CUSA. It seems it should not be that hard to totally dominate this conference like Boise does to MWC, for any of the schools, but especially one with the history, diploma to offer and resources of Rice, located in one of nation's largest cosmopolitan areas.
