The coach got fired. In their place, I wouldn’t lose a season of eligibility playing for an interim coach who got appointed after the School threw in the towel on the season.
Yeah, quitters. Abandoned the team against the coach's wishes. No longer a team game. Me me me...
Life gives you ups and downs. Buckle up, buttercup.
if this was your kids future, millions of dollars on the line, im certan youd feel the same way...to potentially lose your last year on a last minute interim coach..
Right now, it would have to be my grandkid. My kids are in their 40s and 50s. I would tell them to make their own decisions. But I would give them the same advice.
If it were my own decision, I KNOW what I would do. I did it once when the stakes were a lot higher than a silly game.
sticking specifically to sports...you stated the biggest reason.."it is a silly game"..you put your families livelihood on the line for a s "silly game"
lets put you in you in that shoe,:
so you are d'eriq king grandfather, *in kings situation (where he doesnt come from a lot of money)...your team is 1-3 under a brand new coach (his 4th OC/system in 4years), the coach has given you an option to redshirt, you have a chance to be drafted but NONE if you finish the year and dont redshirt....the team is fully supporting you privately and publicly ..
do you tell your grandson king to not redshirt, that the integrity of a "silly game" (a game profiteering off of him and he makes nothing)..giving up on all realistic chances of drastically better the lives of the family around him, your family* in this situation..
keep in mind king gave up big blue blood offers (as an athlete) to play qb at houston...houston moved him to WR and punt returner without hesitation his freshman year, with no guarantee he'd return back to qb, king accepted it and didnt transfer..so he has sacrificed for the team before
so we are clear you would tell him everything you said in this forum? that he shouldnt redshirt, the he is being me me me, he is a quiter...and should give up his dream of playing pro?

Absolutely. And that last assumption is absurd. If he's good enough, he would still have a shot at the pros. Redshirting isn't going to necessarily make any difference.
If he had stuck with it and brought Houston back, instead of quitting, it might have worked out better for him.

what????? that is absurd and clearly from someone who doesnt follow the sport at all in respect to the draft...
kyler murray went from a player with a 6th round nfl draft grade to a 1st round in 1 off season season (1st over all pick)....
middle round qbs draft stock fluctuates like crazy and is often based around hype and the success of your season...
gardner minshew wouldnt have even made the canadian league as a junior at ECU...he was drafted and a full time NFL starter at rookie the very next year at wazzu
quarterback is the one position that fluctuates drastically based around the success of your team/hype..
if you are good enough it means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING....kyle allen (from houston) is currently undefeated as a NFL qb (4-0) , he is good enough to be in the nfl..he is only playing by luck...the panthers had 3 injured qbs last season to end last season, allen was in their camp so they brought him (was just working a regular job) ..with no other qbs in camp he starts the last game for Carolina. he ended up breaking records the 1 game he played, and that earned him a back up qb contract..that is pure luck. he needed 3 other qbs to be injured just to get a shot
making it in the NFL is simply about opportunity, and the more hype you have the more opportunities you will have and a longer leash incase you have a rough start
the whole post just showed me you are very ignorant on the topic..but now i understand you very backwards opinion on this topic...

Dude, I've been attending college football games since 1952. Go away. You have your opinion. I have mine. They are OPINIONS, not facts. Quit trying to sell yours as facts.
Neither one of us has a clue if this was a good move, or not. Stop trying to act like you know. You'll never know, b/c you have no clue how this season would have gone if he had continued playing, and right now, you have no clue what will happen next year.

RE: UH QB D'Eriq King to sit out rest of season, redshirt
no one has a clue if this is a good more for houston the team...i agree 100%..but right now it looks favorable, we get a heisman calibur qb back or we get a backup with 12 games starting experience..
or win 2 more games this year (7/8 wins) and play a completely inexperience qb next season (7/8 wins)
but this is without question, without a shadow of a doubt the best decision for king... he went from preseason late round projections to not even a top 30 qb prospect in 3 games ..
king said it best "at 6'5 you have to prove that you CAN NOT be a qb (take you on potential) at 5'10 you have to prove you ARE elite just to be given a chance "
and something about his injury or the new offense (holgs) threw off his accuracy (was on pace to be his worst passing year)...he gets a year to work on it, gets a year with a better roster, GETS a year with a weaker schedule...or he transfer to a school with a monster o-line that might mask inefficiency (all these "poor" passing qb arent magically becoming elite in 1 offseason at oklahoma, they are just getting oklahoma 5star Oline vs 3star opponents in the big 12, which is everyone not texas)

I agree Houston is tanking, which is poor sportsmanship, to start. I also know you nor anybody else can say with certainty that King will return. That's foolish.

Also, if I am a team in need of a QB... ...I start talking to Tune to gauge interest. He's a keeper.

Talking to some fellow coogs close to the team. Apparently this guy was pretty hated by the entire team, apparently it was so bad coach Holgerson couldn’t even be bothered when he said he was leaving.

Our ad already said we're hunting down any school that tries to recruit players that arent in the transfer portal.

My name is Justin Murphy. And according to sources I am no longer apart of the 2019 Houston Cougar Football Senior Class. A senior class that is the first group to experience a head coach and administration to actively tank a football season. (THREAD) https://twitter.com/JMurphy_73/status/11...58464?s=17
Well so much for the theory that king was transferring huh?

So you're turning that tweet into a positive?
Go to that tweet and read his feed up from there. You may not like what you read.
did you read the feed..the only spicy part was the first tweet
he notes the quitting is from his injury hurting. depite being medically cleared, he wanted a break..dana didnt like the idea of a break (coming and going as you please) so suspended him to not be a distraction...he quit because of the suspension and dana pretty much didnt care and treated him coldly..thats the jist of his story
the rest of his thread about tanking, and player compensation, tv revenue cold reality of the sport and being over worked (4 games in 9 days) is clearly all part of his larger plan and has nothing to do with his situation but just to get notice
all of the the tweets is to get UH to finish paying for his masters program...alll his tweets were essential Ives been through hell personally and as a college student. i deserve to have my tuition paid for (please and thank you; was tagging and being polite to the admins ) but as loudly as possible so uh cant say no

Nope just pointing out what i stated originally is now being proven correct. We are tanking and king isn’t transferring.

I edited the other post. Read that kid's feed from that tweet up, and tell me what you think.
I agree Houston is tanking, which is poor sportsmanship, to start. I also know you nor anybody else can say with certainty that King will return. That's foolish.
I read it and don’t give a crap! The team is more important than one irrelevant line man. All i can say is welcome to life buddy there are people more important than you.

Thank you. I read Murphy's thread and for a brief moment had respect for a Houston fan (since he's no longer a player). You set the world right again by exemplifying your university.
