So ESPN thinks ECU is as good as they thought Colgate was. Compared to the Tribe.

I think ESPN reports the lines rather than sets them, but yeah, just as good as Colgate.

I suspect the biggest difference we will see at ECU is a bit more size and a lot more depth. The 22 additional scholarships @ FBS vs. FCS will show up in the 4th Qtr. when ECU will not have the fatigue factor that Colgate had.

This ECU team may have the lightest lines, D and O, that we see all year. Especially their defensive line. The depth factor though, is real. You don't get quite as tired if you're winning. Hopefully we can jump early like last week. Our time of possession in the first half was only 12 minutes and 26 for the game last week. But...our D never looked tired even though they were on the field much longer than Colgate's D.

Thanks for the info. I was too lazy to look up ECU stats.

They were without their top running back last week at navy and he's not listed on this depth chart either. Pinnix. He is a LOAD and really good and it is a break for us if he's indeed out. The other guys are fast though.

Thought this was an interesting quote from Mike Houston.

“The casual fan better wake up. I can promise you this is a good football team coming in here."

I'll be there with the wife. The only two sporting Tribe gear among a sea of purple worn by her family.

I'll be there, too. My lovely wife works for TowneBank/TowneInsurance, the sponsor of their luxury suite facility, so we've scored a couple of tickets to infiltrate enemy territory.

It's actually "paint the town gold" day, so look for us in our green Tribe gear in that sea of gold (and no doubt some purple).

Game 4: ECU
They played us at our house with a backfield that included Tony Baker and Ernest Byner. Both played in the NFL. They barely beat us. Great game.

Thanks for posting!

Houston’s overall comments on the Tribe are spot on, especially the QB troubles in the past, and the QB position this year.

RE: Game 4: ECU
(Posted the first part of this message in the 2019 Football thread.)

I come in peace!

Really looking forward to welcoming William & Mary to Dowdy-Ficklen on Saturday. I can assure you, nobody in Pirate Nation is overlooking or underestimating the Tribe in this one.

ECU doesn't really know what it has right now... through 3 games, we have:

Game 1: We were blown out at NC State. We shot ourselves in the foot early, driving down their throats and fumbling into the end zone on our first drive, which really killed the momentum we had.

Game 2: We beat the daylights out of Gardner-Webb. They are a bad FCS team, from what I've read. They looked outmatched from the start.

Game 3: We were blown out at Navy. We ALWAYS get blown out by Navy... even in years when we have a good team. For whatever reason, we just flat out can't stop the triple option whatsoever.

From what little Pirate fans can gather from our first 3 games is that the biggest question mark is our offense. With W&M having a high-powered offense, this ECU team isn't one that is going to do well playing from behind.

Here are a couple videos of our team so far... for the 1st one (the NC State game, watch the first minute of the video.) THAT is how our offense is supposed to look, and against a good NC State defense. We need to get back to that.

RE: Game 4: ECU
A few random things about the Pirates that the media guide won't tell you.

- The left side of our OL is vastly superior to the right side. Herrin and Smith (LG & LT) are experienced and solid, while Bailey and Morgan (RG & RT) are young and green.
*Herrin & Smith*

- Center is a bit of a revolving door. John Spellacy was great as a true freshman, but Ed Oliver gave him a concussion during the Houston game, and he was pretty much done. He is now #2, but we rotate Spellacy & Pena.

- Our WR's have difficulty creating separation, and we don't really have a "burner" that can beat you deep. The only one that might be able to is Audie Omotosho, but he's a grad transfer from UCLA and hasn't gotten a lot of playing time.

- We don't rotate DT's. Alex Turner & Jalen Price have gotten 90-95% of the snaps so far this season. They're in great shape, but it says something that our staff doesn't feel comfortable putting the backups in more than a handful of plays.
*Turner & Price*

- Punting has been TERRIBLE, and as a result, we tend to lose the field position battle, and that puts a huge strain on the D.

You sound like "Alibi Ike"!03-puke

Ring Lardner short story made into a movie.

"Rookie pitcher Francis "Ike" Farrell comes seemingly out of nowhere to help the Cubs go for the pennant. His idiosyncratic ways, which include excuses and alibis for everything, drive his manager and fiancee crazy in this baseball farce."

W&M got some attention from the national FCS site:
