RE: BYU home game
ESPN probably set the time, not the university. I'm pretty convinced it is ESPN trying to push ESPN+ subscriptions, which is whatever to me, it's a business. BYU on the road across the country, at 10am. Big fan base. Too early to go to a bar to watch, if bars even have espn+. Probably earlier than most would like to get together with friends to watch. A lot of ESPN+ subscriptions with be started that day. Also, we are the only noon game on ESPN+.

I'm ok with evading Ohio St. The Buckeye fan base is bigger than ever in Toledo right now. I think we would lose more fans competing with OSU than having the game at noon.

Unfortunately though the Michigan will probably end up at noon. Well there are 2 Big Ten games with no time yet...and BTN usually has a game at noon and 7 I believe. Not sure on that.

Rutgers vs. Michigan won't move the needle for Toledo. This is selling out.

Its what the MAC does, not so sure why we would be surprised at this point

Again, we seem to bend over to whoever just to get tv coverage. This game could’ve been a sell out with a great atmosphere at night. The only plus is OSU plays Nebraska and Michigan plays Rutgers. As long as the OSU game is 3:30 or later, that’ll help putting butts in the seats. Have to win this Saturday first.

We should not be surprised by now that TV or any other form of media game coverage is the major factor for start time of many UT games, what is best for fans attending is a clear second, plus avoiding OSU and UM who I can only assume will be 330/800p starts that day?? Personally I don't really mind the occasional noon start but can clearly appreciate that it's not ideal for many fans.

If the game was to be televised on ESPN2 or ESPNU or Fox Sports then I’d be ok with it. But ESPN+ isn’t good enough to have attendance and fan experience affected. This is one of several reasons why I don’t consider Mike O’Brien a great AD. We bend over on command for ESPN. I’m tired of it.

Not so sure it would matter who the AD was, pretty sure this type of move and scheduling is driven by the MAC, or any AD who would trade TV coverage for media attention over considering fans who attend, its not surprising given this has been approach by MAC for years

Playing at noon is a huge advantage for UT. This has nothing to do with television and everything to do with home field advantage. West coast teams struggle coming east.

I am not so sure you are right on this, our AD and MAC would jump at chance to have a game on TV even it is only ESPN+

Ummmmmmm...... we are not a Big Ten school and their not going to share the money they are raking in.

Move on to a different thought.

It’s not about sharing money. It’s about getting the best deal for for televised games for The University of Toledo and the MAC. I can’t understand why we get stuck on espn + and espn 3 so many times compared to the Mac teams

I guess no one really knows for certain. I think ESPN is mainly self serving, so I surmise it's mainly on them. If it was our choice, then why couldn't the start time have been announced sooner so fans could plan?

But it is all about money. That's why the Big Ten Network exists, to make money for the Big Ten and FOX.

Toledo is not nor ever will be a Big Ten School. The Big Ten gains nothing from putting a MAC school on their air unless its playing a Big Ten school. Plus were not playing a Big Ten school until we play Michigan State, which will probably be on the Big Ten Network. The Big Ten gains nothing from the MAC.

agreed but appears that it is still attractive to MAC to have their teams playing on there

The B10 NETWORK DOES benefit from playing MAC schools because regionally where the channel broadcasts it gets more viewers.

Regionally playing a MAC team gains a bit of attendance over a southern FBS or FCS team. It also yearns to keep it's competitive advantage by consistently winning those games. Like Ohio State winning 25 in a row vs. In State teams keeps them on top. MSU beating up WMU keeps them on top. But the rare occasion like Toledo beating UM or CMU beating MSU is devestating locally recruiting.

The BIG10 also can use the MAC as a grad transfer recruiting tool. WMUs best WR went to MSU just this April.
Other than that, yea the BIG10 gains nothing from the MAC. But what conference does the MAC gain from? No conference gains from another conference... Right?

The P5 landscape is pretty regional. The G5 landscape follows their path and has smaller programs paired with the P5 father conference.

WEST COAST: PAC12, MWC
MIDWEST: BIG, MAC
SOUTH: SEC, SBC
SOUTH/EAST COAST: ACC, AAC, CUSA
WEST/ MIDDLE AMERICA/ TEXAS: BIG12, AAC

This should be a gold out... Seeing how we rarely repeat uniform combo's we'll probably rock the Gold helmets with the blue jerseys. Under the sun, let's make the Glass Bowl shine like Boise State and Arizona in 2011 and 2010.
