As far as overall play - my biggest concern is with game day coaching. We have talent on the team - or at least enough to compete in CUSA. It seems the mistakes by the players are things that I put directly on the coaches. They don't demand perfection and it shows. And for crying out loud - remind your punting team to run as much time as possible off the clock in that situation.

Even if talent was equal next week, Saban would chew our coaches up and spit 'em out.

Of course he would. Otherwise Hopson would be making $7,000,000....

Yeah, congrats. Possibly the most ridiculous post of the year. Don't go hurting your shoulder trying to pat yourself on the back with this one...

if they don't fix the secondary, I see 5 more losses by the end of the year....

regardless, this was a solid win....Troy doesn't suck....w/o Quez, we most likely lose yesterday..

True, just came to mind because it’s the next game on the schedule. 04-cheers But boy I’d sure love to have to eat crow next week for that one.07-coffee3

I honestly think it’s too early to say Troy doesn’t suck. They’re only 1-1 and have a defense of Swiss cheese. Who knows where that will get them.

All that said, I’m happy to get the win. A loss would have put us in a losing season probably. Doesn’t change my opinion though on Hop or the team very much. Still a long year ahead, middle of the pack in the worst conference in the country.

The coaches will continue to get criticized until we put a couple of complete games together. Against anybody. Players played hard though and there is some talent and depth. Have to give Hop credit for that at least. Troy was kind of a mirror imagine of us last night and we came out on top at their place. Not to bad.....

RE: Troy game should seal Hops fate
Needed that one something fierce and got it. The passing game looked fantastic, obviously. If they can keep that up, we’ll score a ton in conference play. Too early to know how much of it was our “O” clicking that well vs. Troy’s “D” being suspect, though. Our play on defense was horrific at times. If that’s any indication of the rest of the season, the offense can’t afford any off days.

The celebration penalty was rather boneheaded. Can’t have that.

I loved the play we ended the game with. That was beautiful.

I feel better now about the team than I did this time last week, but I’m still nervous going forward.

That was a criticism leveled some time ago by some media outlet/website breaking down CUSA. It may have been last year or the year before. It basically said USM wouldn’t be a threat because the coaches aren’t consistently demanding and essentially want to flip the switch when they decide the next week’s game is a particularly important one.

I’ll see if I can find the post in the archive, but the link itself may be long since dead.

Best our offense has looked since Monken. Very pleased with what we saw yesterday. I feel a lot better. I think they will fix the defensive coverage issues. If offense and JA can play like yesterday, we should be in the conference championship game and win it. Just gotta stay healthy. Having Quez and J Adams (as well as Tim Jones) in the lineup at the same time is a tough match up for anyone.

so Reg., if you're Buster, how would you approach Bammers in schema going into conference play now that we've all seen the top shelf potential....

I already know what I'd do....but since you've been such a whiny biatch placing the blame on JA's 'weak arse arm'..................well, curious minds are all ears.....

oh yeah, shiftywhinyeagle, feel free to comment as well...

trust me, I will respond regardless if silence is chosen....

good luck biatches...

we all know what needs to happen on D....6-6 at best if that isn't fixed in any scenario...

no way I'm laying off Hop-a-long until he cattle prods whomever going into Saturday...

at face, id try to do exactly what we did yesterday as far as offensive scheme. get the ball to our play making WRs as early and often as possible. then id just hope to get out of the game healthy once its out of hand.

btw, your boy JA must read message boards or the coaches told him the same thing i said......throw the ball harder! bc he put more on the ball for a damn change yesterday. he did make some beautiful touch throws as well. hope he can keep it up.

The main goal for Bammer is stay healthy. They gonna kill us either way. Run the ball with 1 second on the clock every down and kick it away. Make the game as short as possible. Saben isn’t the kind to purposely run a score up anyway. Let Jordan play and let him run the ball. He’s got 4 games. This is one I’d let him get some real knocks in.

attaboy....you're gaining on it...it goes deeper, and I will explain my op-ed later...

I'm going wait to see if shifty has nads to respond.....he's a monday guy at best....

fwiw, I see the same thing in JA vs. Mullens with one exception....JA's more mobile...

more to come in following week....

I have to give ya props Reg....I have a buddy just like you that grew up in the midwest and is one of our biggest fans of anyone I know that didn't go to school here....

kudos and 04-cheers for being able to take a 'punch' with style....

if there's one thing I've learned in my lifetime of playing sports.....

if ya played scared, the chances of injury go up exponentially....the other guys with supposed ability are only going to clean your clock that much faster....trust me, as a sadist, I know...

I completely agree with managing the clock better....that's another weakness that needs to be addressed....we looked like a sack of rocks in that department last week...

toss in Hop's historic arcane timing whe using TOs, and I don't know if that's salvageable..,.

every time he does it, I can only think of him as....

with a lead against troy, trying to milk the clock, we punt with 10-12 seconds on the play clock.... why do you think we can run the clock down to 1 second on every play?
