I'll give you mine. I don't like Trump. I think he is a pompous ass.

But the enemy of my enemy is my friend. And right now the democrats are my enemy. They all support, to varying degrees, a laundry list of ideas that are absolute drop-dead show-stoppers for me:
1) Massive redistribution of income and wealth - not because I am super-rich, but because I know how the people who are will react
2) "Live-birth" or extremely late-term abortion for convenience - I am pro-life with reasonable restrictions, but this goes way too far
3) Gun control - what I foresee is a bunch of infringements on the 2nd Amendment which will not reduce gun violence, the first step down an inevitable slippery slope; Beto sort of let the cat out of the bag
4) Micro-management of the economy and abandonment of free-market competition
5) Single-payer/single-provider health care -- I support universal health care, but on the Bismarck private care model; as a 70-something prostate care survivor, I see single-payer/single-provider as a death sentence
6) Total commitment to change any rules (supreme court, electoral college) that are slowing down implementation of their agenda -- a standard first step toward totalitarianism

There are others, but those will do. Against that array, Trump is very much the lesser evil. That's all he is, but he is at least that.

If democrats were to nominate a fiscally-conservative, pro-growth candidate like JFK or Bill Clinton, I could go there. But what I saw on stage in that debate and others sounded more like a Comintern meeting.

The 2nd amendment wasn't passed with the PURPOSE of avoiding having a standing Army. If it were, you'd be able to show numerous quotes to that effect. I really shouldn't give you any points at all. The only reason I do is because it IS true that we didn't have a standing army. Your premise assumes facts not in evidence.... ANYWHERE in the writings surrounding the creation of the document.

Instead, the 2nd Amendment very clearly was included to give citizens and the states confidence that the central federal government wouldn't ever be able to disarm them. Read the preamble to the BOR and then the 2nd Amendment and it's clear, even to you. Obviously we already had 'state' militias before the central government was formed/the Constitution was passed.

I'm being generous giving your answer 1/10th credit.
