High Profile Road Games
Let's hope a recent trend over the last 15 years doesn't continue against highly ranked or high profile opponents. Cincinnati has not done particularly well in these non-conference games
https://www.downthedrive.com/2019/9/3/20...-struggles
They MUST establish the run game and cannot fall behind early. I truly believe if they can just hang around for 3 quarters, OSU will crack. Because all of the pressure will be on them and with a young QB and a new coach, they will tighten up.

The key to an upset is take the lead and answer every scoring drive with a scoring drive of your own. Having to come from behind doesn't bode well so it is important to be focused and ready from go.
Also hoping for comfortably cool weather to allow the UC starers to play with energy through the 4th quarter. tOSu is deeper and will have more bodies to throw a UC. Cool weather will hep keep the UC starters fresh.

O$U does have a history of locking up if they're behind late. Remember the Mi. St. game they lost when they spent the whole second half trying to pass their way back and giving Ezekiel Elliott only four carries... of which he literally cried about.
O$U wants to get out ahead and blow you out. If we can keep it close … or dare we say get ahead... that is our only chance.
If you get behind and try to make a comeback at O$U, that's when they start calling back your TD's for having a lineman downfield even though there wasn't a flag thrown by any of the refs and TV replays show that your linemen were not downfield.

If it is B1G refs we have no chance. These refs want to keep working.

This is the single most difference between UC and Boise St and its why Boise often starts the season ranked where-as UC does not.

RE: High Profile Road Games
Most teams don’t win non-conference road games against highly ranked teams. NC State, Oregon State, Purdue, Illinois, and UCLA didn’t have a welcome experience in Nippert.
The thing is that Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State are not coming to Nippert Stadium so it’s hard to guess what would happen if UC truly hosted those mega programs. It’s why taking advantage of bowl games is important and why the BCS bowl losses hurt. Playing Ohio State this year could be a season killer now that Boise State has won at a crappy FSU.

I agree with most of your post. Bolded, if OSU has a perfect season and UC hangs tough with them and if FSU is awful once again this year Boise may not outdistance UCF or UC. Lots of football to be played yet.

Rankings, yes. Attendance? It would certainly help, but that seems to get built one brick at a time by people who are passionate about UC. It might fill Nippert for Miami (OH) the following week (as UC's win over Penn State did the following week for Oklahoma State) but sustaining higher attendance remains a more complex equation to solve.
I'm not saying that to be pessimistic as I have a fairly long view on the attendance issue and we're doing better than ever before.

RE: High Profile Road Games
I posted this a while back, but OSU rarely loses at home. And when they lose, they don't lose to the likes of Boise State. In the past 10 years they have lost 6 games at Ohio Stadium:
(2017) #5 Oklahoma
(2015) #9 Michigan State
(2014) Virginia Tech
(2011) Michigan State
(2011) #21 Penn State
(2009) #3 USC
Taking it back another 10 years:
(2008) #3 Penn State
(2007) Illinois (Illinois went to Rose Bowl that year)
(2005) #2 Texas
(2001) Wisconsin
(2001) #12 Illinois
(2000) #19 Michigan (John Cooper's final season)

Basically big money programs with with either elite talent and resources.

Highly ranked teams rarely lose, ever.
That's why they're highly ranked.
Ohio State has lost 6 home games since 2009. But they've also only lost 10 road games and 3 neutral-site bowl games. 5 of those road/neutral losses were in 2011 when Fickell was coaching them. They're 1-3 at Purdue for some reason.
You can argue that they have more home games than road games, but those extra home games are typically against MAC cupcakes (or UC, which to them is almost the same thing).

You knock off O$U on their turf and Nippert will sell out the entire season easily.

I've been mulling this over all day. If UC were to win, what would it mean in the long run?
My guess is it would help with attendance this year.. there will probably be some casuals who will rush to buy some tickets for the rest of the season or buy a package.
Long term would it help attendance? Maybe we gain a few converts, but I don't think that all of a sudden we'd get the masses out in Mason, West Chester, Middletown, or Milford to throw away their Scarlet and Gray and rock the c-paw.
Just my thoughts. We just need to keep chipping away year by year and eventually we'll get there. Its not a one game proposition unfortunately.

Short of a win in the CFB playoffs, a win @OSU this week to close out our 6 game series would have the greatest positive impact on the program one game could possibly have. Think OSU wouldn't reschedule another series with that kind of in-state L lingering?

No, I think OSU would avoid us like the plague, just as they did after we deprived them of expected national basketball championships in '61 and '62. We didn't meet again in regular season play for more than five decades.
If we beat them Saturday (a big if), and if they do want a rematch, it has to be on our home turf, preferably at Nippert and not at Paul Brown where they can pack the stands.

Call me naive but it seems like UC-OSU relations have improved enough for future series to be scheduled again. At least in basketball.

They have won all of the recent match ups so I'm not shocked it's friendly...
it won't be friendly if little brother doesn't know his place at some point and beats them.
