RE: Game Week/Day: @Coastal Carolina
Happy for the win. Not happy with the secondary. Maybe too over-confident or we're just a good MAC defense (can't compete with southern conferences).

Creighton mentioned that he needs to improve his play calling in close games. I think the play calling needs to improve in general...going for two in the 3rd qtr.

It's early, but could our offense be better than our defense?
Could our DLine be better than our secondary? Just think if we didn't have those picks...

Good point, Sam. Plus we're all probably over-reacting to what was just a Week 1 game.

RE: Game Week/Day: @Coastal Carolina
I was pleased with the Win. We beat a quick southern team in their own house, even with the freaky rule occurrence on the Vann fumble which bye the way occurred in the Northwestern-Stanford game today but thanks to inches allowed Northwestern their first touchdown instead of the touchback we endured. A silly rule for sure. We also let them hang ten quick points on us before we actually got started.

We were much larger and slower than Coastal Carolina but we play in the late fall when those speedsters fall on their butts and those small lineman get plowed under. I'm awfully sure that in Akron or DeKalb in November, that speed would yield to bulk. Yet we still won today, in THEIR weather.

This one was a must-win as is the first home game.

Here's another good statline for you - Jake Julien: 3 punts, 145 yards, 48.3 average with a long of 59

He's improved so much since his freshman year. Great progression. He's a weapon for us now.

Over all it was a solid victory. I’ll take them any way I can get them on the road. The offense looked good, but I do think we are holding some things back. Mainly Glass in the running game. As we open him up as the year goes on, it will allow us to throw the ball deep.

We did not do that often today, in fact offensively we were very predictable in my opinion. Probably by design. So I feel really good following the game knowing we will improve on both sides of the ball.

One more shoutout: Clay Holford. Nearly TWO picks from the DLine. Great play.

The kid is going to be a game changer for us this year. He can flip the field for sure.

Glass must stay healthy. I think they should limit his running. Hopefully we smack Central Connecticut and one of the back-ups gets some PT.

Totally agree, but there will be a good stretch of time (after central conn) when we will have to open it up a bit. We will have to pick and choose our battles all year with him, but he’s too good of an athlete to keep him bottled up all year.

I mean, when the guy finishes 20/22, 3 TDs 0 INTs plus a rushing TD, you aren't necessarily forced to make him run. We can probably pick and choose all season.

A close win is better than a close loss. Defense generated turnovers and Coastal beat themselves with some key penalties. Played at much higher level second half.

I’m not being critical. Just making mention for future games.

I believe all the games will be close this year similar to the previous 3 years

RE: Game Week/Day: @Coastal Carolina
Dear Friends,
Just one more point about how this game was played. Not trying to make any excuse, but remember, this could have been more difficult for Eastern because of the fact that Coastal Carolina has a new coach, and he may have changed many of their looks and plays. I say this because Coach Creighton said Eastern only had last year's tape to scout them. So, that may have been part of our lack of ability to stop them, especially on their opening touchdown drive.

We are a 5.5 point favorite. The OV/UN line is 55 points. So that translate to EMU 30 and C.C. 25.

Does Vegas see a better offense and diminished defense?

Pretty darn close... EMU 30 and CC 23

Wasn’t the slogan last year Focus, Fight, Finish?
I have some thoughts on the overall performance, but I’m mostly happy that they FINISHED tonight. May this be the first of many that they close out ahead!

And remember, CC missed a chip shot FG. It could have been 30 - 26 and flipped both the game (EMU covered) and the OV/UN 55 or 55 1/2.

Folks in Vegas were kind of like....
