I know it would affect law abiding citizens more... but so does say airport security. I mean , how mean law abiding citizens go through security before we catch a nut case.
There is very little reason to think it would deter most of these cases. They are typically very calculated and premeditated, and the perps have thought long and hard about how they are going to do it and why they are doing it. Most of them have manifestos and have been building to their attacks for many months if not years.
Such people are not going to be deterred by background checks or banning AR rifles and its absurd to pretend they will be.
I don’t think you can put all these guys in the same category. And I don’t think we can assume we know for sure how many of these cases this type of policy would or would not stop. And I am not a expert, I came up with those examples in about 30 seconds.
Ok, that’s find, this is a discussion.
So with a little (or more) time to mull what would you suggest?
As I said, all ears.
I’ve heard no more gun factories, like they don’t or wouldn’t exist in France, England Spain or RUSSIA!!! Or be smuggled in from Mejico or Canada, like the booze during the last prohibition.
Without closing borders, how do we prevent that? How do we prevent the Coke, Meth, Fetynal (sp)? Etc.
I hear a chorus of BandAids and no real solutions. Just a cry of “WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING” largely from the Beta fans.
Bring answers, not questions.
I agree answers are better, but to get answers you got ask questions first.
So what’s you solution to mass shootings?

I am a gun enthusiast and CCW holder, but I would like to know your thoughts on the continued legality of drum magazines.
Well, how many people who own drum magazines don't go on mass murder killing sprees?

Because the Second Amendment wasn't written for hunting or target shooting. It was written by mean who had just led the then infant nation through a war with an oppressive government who tried to curtail the rights of citizens, including the right to bear arms, so that when future citizens were facing another oppressive government they would have the ability to fight back. We've surrendered enough of our rights in the false pursuit of safety and it hasn't worked. I'll be damned if I'll surrender any more.
Amen!
The entire Bill of Rights was written as a means to STOP aggressive government take-over.
Quote:Preamble to the Bill of Rights
"Congress of the United States begun and held at the City of New York, on Wednesday the fourth of March, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine.
The Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution expressed a desire in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added: And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government will best ensure the beneficent ends of its institution.
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, two thirds of both Houses concurring that the following Articles be proposed to the Legislatures of the several states as Amendments to the Constitution of the United States, all or any of which articles, when ratified by three fourths of the said Legislatures to be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the said Constitution. viz.
Articles in addition to, and Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America, proposed by Congress and Ratified by the Legislatures of the several States, pursuant to the fifth Article of the original Constitution."

And if so, why hasn’t it been done already with the ~20,000 various gun laws we have now?
Honest ?, I have two kids in college that are currently home.
We had a 2 hour drive to the airport a couple weeks ago and for some reason (forgotten now) this topic came up.
Both of them said much the same thing, “ we’ve got to do SOMETHING!”. I said fine. But what?
It was all gun licensing, gun registration, gun ownership restriction etc. I asked how many criminals are going to follow those laws all of the sudden?
Not much in response cause there is none.
Any restriction, additional burocracy, license, etc could help. The same way a well lit house, or a house with an alarm sign in the front yard helps to stop certain types of criminals (of course not all, if someone is determined to break into your house they will probably find a way). But I would assume same would apply to these shootings.
Say that a license requires some courses, tests etc. Where you add some evaluations where these guys think they could be flagged. Or you make the waiting period for the background check last a few months. Or the first gun you buy is s more basic with a limit in ammunition, and maybe you have to wait a while (say a year) to be allowed to buy as many as you want. Or if you are ubder 25 (I thought if this limit thinking of rental cars) a parent or say a shooting instructor needs to vouch for you.
Look, I just thought of these ideas now, and I am sure you will find issues with them. My point is that any barrier helps.
We already have barriers. What you want to do is punish law abiding citizens and hinder their ability to protect themselves and their families.
Yes the barrier is as long as you are not crazy or a criminal and at least 18 you are good to go.

There is no solution. It's part and parcel of living in the freest country in the world. There's no one single defining factor that identifies a mass shooter that you can isolate and protect against. In the two publicized mass shootings this weekend you have two diametrically different shooters...one who appears to be right wing and one who was self-identified as left wing. Thomas Jefferson once said "I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery" that's pretty much our country. Yes there's the minuscule chance you'll get killed in a mass shooting but at least you will not get sent to prison for using the wrong gender pronoun by mistake.

I’m short on time right now, but very quickly none of those will prevent two types of people from getting guns or using another method of mass killings like driving down a bike path at 70 mph on a Saturday afternoon.

So are you suggesting we adopt pre-crime regulations? Shall we employ psychics to predict the future before we allow people to exercise their Constitutional right to bear arms?
Are there any other rights we should restrict this way?
Hey, no worries... it's already on the way!

Dear God we've just about lost our Republic.

We're at 83 deaths so far in 2019. There were 102 deaths in 2018. The last line in the top graph is 2017.

I wonder if they are consistent with their definition of "mass shootings" over time. Technically a shootout among gang members or a drug deal gone bad where three people are shot is considered a "mass shooting". We all know how those with an agenda, specifically the more liberal types, love to change the meanings of words.

Actual assault weapons were banned in 1986 you stupid ass partisan ****.
This is like saying "why does anyone need an AR or LR assault style weapon when there are other rifles that you can hunt with?" The primary difference in them is that one looks scary and the other looks traditional. Effin idiots.

How about this: let’s ban guns in video games and non-military movies first.
I bet there would be an epic uproar from the left about their right to free speech.....

And of course I agree that it would not stop all of them.
Also you cannot just assume all of these guys would find a different way of killing a bunch of people if they are not able to buy a gun.
Which should give you pause to consider the foolishness of your statements.
What I meant was , that someone with more expertise would come up with better solutions
With more expertise on what?? How to more effectively impinge my constitutional rights? How to limit my ability to protect myself from someone intent on harming me or my family?
How about an expert on craziness? Mental illness drives most of these events. Maybe we should just start locking up democrats.

I am not saying it has do me something drastic, but I am sure something can be done.
Such as?
See, you aren't stupid. Crazy criminals are the ones committing these acts. You are seeking ways to punish me for being responsible and sane, at least by conventional measures.
