The fun thing is that apparently one comment made 50 years ago from one member of one party is a proper moral cudgel to some, but having an exalted leader of the KKK from your party, let alone the mention of the deep Democratic commitment to segregation in the same time period is improper to cudgel with. Let alone constant comments about 'n-ggers' from architect himself of the Great Society at that same point in time.
If hypocrisy and smug condescension were Olympic sports, 93 wouldnt just be in a medal contention position, he would be moving into the Mark Spitz or Carl Lewis realm at this point.
Hmmmm.... calling out somebody for making smug/condesending comments while constantly making smug/condescending comments himself. Would you call that hypocrisy? I may be confused.

RE: Why do all these racists keep joining the GOP?
So last week:
Black, Latino Dems torch DCCC for lack of diversity
Quote:Senior Hispanic and black members of Congress have privately clashed with Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-Ill.) over her personnel decisions, what they say are tone-deaf comments on race and whether she's lived up to the promises she made during the campaign to win the chairmanship of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
“There is not one person of color — black or brown, that I’m aware of — at any position of authority or decision-making in the DCCC,” said Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio), a former chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus. “It is shocking, it is shocking, and something needs to be done about it.”
This week:
DCCC faces mass staff upheaval after uproar over diversity
It appears that the people who were purged were almost exclusively Caucasian. Although roughly half the committee’s full-time staff (13 of 27) were nonwhite.
And the powers that be put enough pressure on the chair that she sacrificed loyal staffers to the god of diversity.
There seem to be really only two possible interpretations of this mass-purge.
1) a few Democrats are making a racial issue out of a patronage question; thus knifing one another under the guise of intersectionality; or
2) Democrats are honestly upset that half the staff are white.
Which interpretation communicates that this is a party fit to govern?
If an organization is actually willing to fire you from your job just because you’re white (let alone any color, creed, or whatnot), do you really want to be involved with it?
But no, this has zero to do with racism, not in the slightest.
All race, all the time

He has a rather large body of that work behind him.
The biggest piece was one phone call 50 years ago.

Tanq's comments aren't smug and condescending. They are rude. That's because Tanq doesn't play well with stupidity or ignorance, and doesn't mind being rude to people who are stupid or ignorant. I love him for it. I wish I could be more like him, but I just don't have it in me. If you expect to make a stupid or ignorant comment and not have it smashed back in your face, don't make that comment to Tanq.
I wish I had a dollar for every time I've read one of Tanq's comments and thought, "Damn, I wish I had said that." I do the same thing when talking with him in person over a good wine or beer. Actually, I probably do have about $1,000 for each of those times. So hell, be greedy, make it $1,000,000.

OMG he makes smug/condescending comments constantly! You are showing your bias if you don't see that.
I agree with you that he is also rude.
I also agree that he can make some excellent points. But LOLZ that he doesn't make smug/condescending comments!

Tanq may suffer fools, but not gladly. He's a typical West Texan, doesn't mind being abrupt with his comments. I don't consider him smug and condescending, but you may if that's your choice. I'm pretty sure he doesn't give a damn was you think. I'm pleased to have him as a friend, and I agree with him about 95% of the time.

I can't imagine a more 'mic-drop appropriate' self-goal statement than that last retort.
For the record 93, at least today I have been no more subtle than a sledgehammer. If you want to believe that that is 'smug and condescending', well..... it is a free country, my friend.
If that is truly 'smug and condescending' in your world, well.... I guess there are more than a few people who would correspondingly cite Larry, Moe, and Curly as the best thing in subtle, nuanced comedy.

You haven't been especially smug or condescending today (as you recognized in your post). But plenty of times in general and I don't think I need to find you examples.

Please don't expect me to call it out EVERY time that you are smug/condescending. I'll get carpal tunnel syndrome. To date I have only pointed out some of the completely over-the-top instances.
Let's agree that we can both be smug and/or condescending at times and move on?

Perhaps. Perhaps not. If you want to imitate being a smug asshat when being called out as such, maybe that is really not the place for a bald, isolated smug asshat statement in reply. That is my common sense lesson I might proffer for today.

Yes. That was the point!
And yet at the same time it came across as a smug asshat-style statement. Nice body control for the two-fer.
OK... irony is lost on you I guess.
Perhaps. Perhaps not. If you want to imitate being a smug asshat when being called out as such, maybe that is really not the place for a bald, isolated smug asshat statement in reply.
OTOH maybe that is the PERFECT place for a bald, isolated smug asshat statement in reply?

Some learn that the written form is a dangerous place for bald, isolated sarcasm, especially to be sure that it is recognized as sarcasm. Some dont learn that. Or forget it.

They are seemingly more motivated about what a condescending smug asshat I am as opposed to real events, perhaps.
Truth be told, it is not easily defensible. I guess one might avoid the indefensible as a non-event more easily than addressing it.
