I tend to agree, though I have to admit the wins over LSU and Michigan last year were inspired, intelligent efforts characteristic of a "big time" team.
Maybe it's the 5-3 SEC record that has me doubting them?
Not sure, but like you, I do. They still have the Muschamp stink about them.

Nebraska #25 ...? I listen to Omaha sports radio and people are a little more cautious. Huskers have a good coach, a good quarterback, and a favorable schedule. People are expecting improvement. But #25 might be a stretch for this season. But then again based on what Scott Frost did in his 2nd year at UCF.... In the Big10 West, 6 of the 7 teams have a legit chance of winning it this year (and Illinois will probably upset somebody). If anyone says they can predict the winner of the Big10 West, don't loan them any money!

One could view that as an argument in favor of ranking Nebraska #25, like this: The division is so soft that anyone could win it. Nebraska doesn't play Michigan, Michigan State, or Penn State, so the only game you'd mark as a probable loss is Ohio State. It's a schedule with 11 extremely winnable games where all they have to do is win 9 of those, or 8 plus a bowl game, and historical name recognition alone would get them #25 or better with a 9-4 record. I suppose caution is warranted because, based on their last several years, the Huskers could certainly let more than 4 of those games slip away.

ARMY RANKED #16!!!!!
Incredibly easy schedule. They could run the table with one upset
If they went 11-1 they probably would be ranked around #16...however, would they rate a NY6 Bowl?

That is sooo painfully true.

As an Indy, they can't get the Access spot, so they'd have to finish in the top 4 and get a playoff berth to wind up in the NY6. Given that UCF couldn't get it done running the table, there's no way Army can with only 1 P5 opponent and 2 FCS teams on the schedule.

A Win over Oklahoma and 12-0 and they’d be in.

Oregon is #13 because "Road trips to Stanford, Washington and USC"
That sounds like 2 schedule losses right there, plus the inevitable trip up somewhere else.
Don't buy Army at #16. More like #36.

They did beat LSU but the season was dangerously close to going off the rails in November. Then they have an improbable comeback against an SC team that was missing 10 defensive players and beat an FCS opponent and a hapless FSU before beating an uninterested Michigan in the bowl.
Credit to them for rallying but it’s a season that easily could have been 8-5 under different circumstances and now they’ve lost their entire OL and have lost much of their incoming class. The schedule is much tougher this year as well.
Don’t get me wrong they’re good but just not top ten good

They don't play Oklahoma this year. They do play Michigan.
That is a fairly easy schedule minus the Wolverines.

False. There is one at-large spot in the NY6 this year (only one this year because neither Sugar nor Rose are CFP semifinals), so wouldn't have to finish in the top 4.

True. Not only will Army not be in the top 4, Army won't get that one at-large berth even if they go 13-0.

Given that rankings only have a casual relationship with actual strength, they could be ranked that high. They would, after all, be no worse than one game behind in the loss column. In rating systems, as opposed to rankings, they probably would be at least 20 spots lower. For Army, being in the top 40 by strength would be a tremendous accomplishment.

Originally, they had Virginia Tech 25th with the comment that with QB Josh Jackson coming back the Hokies looked good. Of course, Josh Jackson transferred to Maryland.... an announcement that was made in January. So they had to update their listing because of their 6 month out of date information.

I think they handle, Colorado easily on the road this year. Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Northwestern at home? Wow! That's very favorable! Maryland is the trap game this year. Hopefully Frost has them rolling by then and they don't overlook the Terps.
