9 A.M. Kickoffs for the Pac-12.
This is a possibility being considered. I just have to think the effect on attendance would be huge.

Probably a school like USC won’t be part of the 9am kickoffs but I can see Oregon State and Arizona getting those slots.

Yeah, one thing I noticed when I lived in CA for 3 years... no one gets up & out before 10 pm on Saturday. Everything is less crowded on Saturday at 9:30 am than it is on Tuesday at noon. Even Home Depot. Even the beach.

Would left coasters get up in time for a 9 am local start?

If they want more TV dollars they need to do this.

Brutal on fans of course. All-night tailgating?

RE: 9 A.M. Kickoffs for the Pac-12.
Many of us are already up watching the Premier League or at the gym, to get home for the 9 AM kickoffs. I've lived in the East Bay since 2006 and in the Central Valley a year prior.

If the TV money outweighs the loss of gate, I don't see what the main issue is if it is one conference home game every three seasons. Youth leagues may suffer, but bars here are open early on Saturdays for east coast games regardless. Those driving say 4+ hours to games will just drive up Friday night as opposed to Saturday morning.

They should allow overnight parking to save hotel expenses. If it were me, I'd park at 2am and snuggle up in the car.

I could see Utah and Colorado each host a 10am kickoff or two...and Arizona and Arizona State each host a 10am kickoff in November, after the clocks in the East fall back.

I really don't see any of the Pacific Time Zone schools hosting 9am kickoffs.

How many 12pm ET kickoffs would FOX really need or want from the PAC 12?

I did when I lived out there. Breakfast and football is a great way to start the day.

Watching on TV is great. You have the rest of the day to do stuff. Not sure I would go to a game that starts at 9 if I have to get up at 7:30 to shower, dress eat, and drive and park.

I think it has a negative effect on attendance if this happens. Also, the purpose is to get higher potential east coast audiences, but honestly, if you grew up on the east coast, would you even care if the Arizona v. Washington State game is coming to you at noon?

This is silly.

California has enough people to populate a real country.

Why is the West Coast seeking East Coast time slots? Why not cater to your population? Why not work your market?

9 a.m. kickoffs don’t exactly scream P5. To me this is more evidence of a gap beginning to form between the Pac-12 and the other power conferences.

Because California is all you have. The rest of the west coast, Pac-12 states are sparsely populated. It's not enough people. At least not enough to compete with the other P5 conferences

It makes sense for Utah & Colorado home games, along with whenever Arizona/ASU is in the Mountain Time Zone or whatever daylight savings does to the time zone...

If they agree to this they need to be replaced. It’s a middle finger to fans

Washington, Arizona and Colorado have decent populations.

But they already have those in the fold.

True.

But what is the solution? Move to an eight team playoff?

US population by time zone as of 2014

Eastern Standard Time Zone: 150.2 million (47.1%)
Central Standard Time Zone: 92.3 million (29.0%)
Mountain Standard Time Zone: 21.3 million (6.7%)
Pacific Standard Time Zone: 53.0 million (16.6%)

Just over 3/4ths of the population is in the eastern and central time zones. I don't know why the Pac-12 would want to play football when 3/4ths of the nation is watching and be concerned about games played when 3/4ths are in bed.

I don’t get it either

Most people on the east coast aren’t going to pick a random Pac12 game over and SEC or Big Ten game anyway. Why not just appeal to your own fans that are actually coming to games and try and lock down the evening and late night time slots when you are the only thing in TV?

I’d be more likely to watch Arizona St/Utah at 10:00 pm than I would be 12:00pm
