Andrew Yang, Tom Steyer, John Delaney and Beto O'Rourke would beg to differ. And I'd say most Governors or big city mayors fit that category too.

Your bias is unbelievable. Just admit already you're a Republican. You'll feel better about yourself in the morning.

Robert --- lol. Yep, Robert has such a huge amount of experience 'running a business'. As much of a fing rubber stamp as one can get from one whose pop was county judge, and is the son-in-law of billionaire.

His business background is equivalent to a young Bernie Sanders. Why dont you include Bernie in that group then?

Robert, businessman. It is always really fun to start the morning out with a good laugh.

Quote:Your bias is unbelievable. Just admit already you're a Republican. You'll feel better about yourself in the morning.

I think you disagree that for the most part, Democratic pols are far more likely to not be ensconced with a business than Republicans.

Lets take a look at the last three Republican Presidents --- Shrub (ran a professional baseball club), Papa Bush --- CEO of Zapata Energy, and Orange Man.

The best business experience the last three Democratic presidents can muster is peanut farmer.

I mean, think about it --- Democratic politics is all about using the power of the state to coerce compliance and more and more money out of a populace. Kind of anathema to most businesses when yo stop and think about it.

But if *you* really want to try and cast the Democratic party as the party of business, well, keep on smacking that tom tom as much as you want.....

By the way, here is your vaunted businessman candidate Andrew Yang, the tweet is late day before yesterday (i.e. less than 48 hours old). Where would you rate this on the 'astute businessman' scale?

RE: Trump Administration
Yang's Freedom Dividend (universal business income) concept is odd - I'll grant you that. But he has some decent ideas besides that. And if you're going to discount his business background, you're nuts. He helped form a startup .com business in 2000, then was the VP and third hire for a healthcare software startup. Then in 2006 he became president of Manhattan Prep, a GMAT prep company later acquired by Kaplan. Then in 2011, he founded Venture in America which is still in service today with about 30 employees.

He did all that without any help from pops, which is something you can't say about either Bush or Trump.

Yang basically supports UBI, which even Owl#’s favors (though through a different method, likely; he talks about a negative income tax if I remember correctly). Not sure what his business acumen has to do with supporting that fiscal policy.

Don’t forget that Warren is also a premier commercial law professor, which, I imagine, requires a rather deep understanding of the intricacies or running a business.

There is no question that the Republican Party is the preferred party of businesses, because their values are generally more aligned with owners/the capital class, while Democrats are generally more aligned with laborers/the working class. And while having experience running a business is undoubtedly helpful in the executive branch, Trump is a poster child for how lacking political experience is detrimental. Ideally someone who lacks one of those traits would surround themselves with advisers who fill the void.

RE: Trump Administration
As I understand it, the freedom dividend is Yang's way of dealing with automation (and as a result, people losing their jobs in the future). I'm not sure passing go helps much in monopoly when you're landing on Park Avenue with a hotel on it (and you don't own it), or in this case, when you're out of a job and don't have the skills necessary to get a new job. But he claims it will be paid for in ways that most countries have already developed.

In either case, Yang is a sharp guy, and he's actually the only candidate I'm currently following on Twitter. He's not my #1 choice though. I actually like Buttigieg the most but his age is a real drawback in my eyes. I'm hoping Mayor Pete ends up being the VP candidate for someone else I can support.

Funny, in 2008: when community activist Obama was running, the lefties I discussed with then all said executive experience was not a needed background. Glad some of y’all have changed your minds.

Yang may well be the best of a bad lot, which is why the Dems will not nominate him. I think the quest this year is to nominate the most qualified black female.

Lots of people inherit a mil or so. Damn few turn it into billions.

RE: Trump Administration
Being a governor or large city mayor would be the best experience to be President, but governing badly in that office would not be a plus, so that takes out DeBlassio.

Other relevant experience would be being a CEO Of a large company (not neccesairily an entrepreneur) or military commander.

If you want political experience, then look for a Washington than insider. Biden fits the bill.

I think being a Senator would be at the botttom of the list of qualifying experiences.

I think Buttegieg is a prime candidate for VP, but which among the possible nominees would not be someone you cold support, FBO?

Beta’s business experience is limited to helping his daddy make money off the backs of poor people.

That's #s supports it. Seems to be just another welfare trough to me. Funny, one that people like me pay far more than my 'fair share' for. Funny that.

Her forte is bankruptcy law. And you forgot the 1/1024 of a dollar loan her parents gave to her to start that business.

And with due respect, knowing the law is no replacement for being a business person. I know way too many attorneys that cant even run their own practice.

Quote:There is no question that the Republican Party is the preferred party of businesses, because their values are generally more aligned with owners/the capital class, while Democrats are generally more aligned with laborers/the working class. It goes beyond that lad. Where do you think taxes come from? Not from the workers at Mickey Ds, I can tell you that.

A business owner who becomes a politician understands not just the fiscal bite, but the 'pain in the fing ass' bite that government represents. They understand who actually foots the bill in the nation overall.

A non-business owner simply thinks as business as the goose that lays the golden egg that they should grab more of, and hamper them at the same time.

No number of 'advisers' can fill in that simple understanding.

Each of my kids and grandkids will inherit a million or so. I expect zero billionaires.

I presume you plan to leave your kids nothing, so they can go the rags to riches route. Builds character.

Remember the parable of the talents?

Look around. The auto dealer, the lawyer, the doctor, even the plumber will leave their kids well off. It’s not what you inherit, it’s what you do with it.

Pelvis inherited a bundle. She had t mart money.
Kerry inherited a bundle. He had to marry money
Harris married money
Beta has both a rich parent and married money

Yet y’all scorn the guy who took a relatively modest inheritance and increased it 10,000 times.

Someone mentioned hypocrisy above. Here it is again.

Are you absolutely certain Yang, stayer, etc al were penniless when the started?

The general concept of UBI isn't pandering - it's an actual economic policy that many are interested in to help address issues created from the evolution of the workforce. As was mentioned, Yang sees it as a way to deal with some of the side effects of workforce automation.

I'm not saying that it is necessarily the right answer, but it isn't pandering.

His tweet didnt say 1000 clams for those whom have been disrupted as a side effect of workforce automation.

Or does the term 'everyone' mean that now?

I can see the issue when targeted. The scope of 'everyone' screams 'pandering' to this illiterate. Perhaps the scope of 'everyone' makes sense to you.... I dont know.

To be honest, there is a huge mismatch there between the reason and the target population.

Yes, that is somebody who started penniless. Amazing how he parlayed those pennies in his tin cup to a fortune 1/6 of Trumps.

We all are given some opportunities and what matters is what one does with them. But only Trump is scorned for his achievements while similar peole who are Democrats are praised. Hypocrites.
