Our stadium is an erector set and removable concrete legos! We can just reconfigure it! 07-coffee3

Haha, sure. Well, at least they didn’t use Lincoln Logs.

RE: NEW stadium construction
The more I think about the NEZ the more I start to think it's a mistake to put in seats. Any additional seating, in my opinion, should be along the sidelines above what is built. I feel this way only because of the poor fan experience of sitting in the end zone. With increased availability of on-line streaming options- I'd rather watch online than potentially be 120 yards from play.

I don't have a cool idea of what should go there, other than unique corporate boxes, or a tiered berm with beer sales. I do know that end zone TV shots of empty bleachers is a bad look.

RE: NEW stadium construction
The NEZ is such an eyesore something has to be done. Maybe 10 rows of bleachers with a berm / concourse area above and behind it for standing, drinking etc with a gigantic scoreboard towering above it would work. But only if they add a second deck of 5-10,000 seats on the sidelines. You are right in that the endzone seats suck.

I would put the band, flag team, and visitors in the renovated end zone. Add a party area / entertainment venue space and include the scoreboard above it. Move students to east side lower deck toward the south end and add another level for ticket holders.

Sounds perfect. Now we just need the money and that AAC invite.

You guys are acting like no one else has end zone seats... If we build it right it will be fine. But eliminating them completely is a mistake IMO

Nobody said eliminating them. Where did you read that ? Put the Band and Visitors in the end zone was stated.

RE: NEW stadium construction
Very frustrated with cameras. I gave up on camera 1 a while back, but camera 2 has been down since early morning of the 4th. So now no view of the field and stands, only camera 3 which doesn't show all that much. Hope they get camera 2 back up soon.

1-2 still out. Based on camera 3 I only see a small handful of people working. Little surprised by this. Not sure if they can't get anyone to work on Sunday or they think they just don't need to.

Maybe they are inside or on the other side of the stadium?

I'm sure there are workers on the other side as well. Yes, they are inside for the most part, but you can kind of gauage how much activity is going on by the number of trucks you see. Not that many today.

RE: NEW stadium construction
Stopped by the stadium today. Have to retract my observation that there were not many people working today. Saw lots of people working.Talked to someone who worked for the electrical contractor. He said new scoreboard install starts 27th. Cameras will soon all be off as they transition electrical source from a temporary terminal to the stadiums internal electrical source. Elevators have already been installed!!. Did not know that. seating on east side stopped due to shortage of one piece of tread. Additional tread to arrive this week.
You can't see this from the cameras, but there are about 26 pairs of speakers hanging from the second level, near ribbon.
He admitted finishing will take to the last possible minute and work will go on for as long as 3 months, doing punch list work.

I'm wondering if ODU wanted this info made public. Let's face it, people will overreact and the next thing you know, fans are going to wonder if the stadium will be safe.

Does anyone know if ODU is still pursuing the closing of Bluestone Ave. That street needs to be closed so the stadium can be expanded well beyond 30k seats.

Harbor Park was the same way. I worked for the Tides the first eight seasons they were in the place. There were construction workers in the park up to shortly before the gates opened getting things squared away.

Harry has made it very clear in the past that the stadium will be open and operable on game one, but some finishing touches will be made weeks after. Hence, punch list work. The structural part is already done.

Per your expansion question, most renderings of expansion shows the majority of expansion on the east and north sides. Agreed closing Bluestone would be good on game days, probably not needed to be closed the other 360 days of the year though.

RE: NEW stadium construction
ODU was looking to permanently close a portion of it and Norfolk City Council was supposed to vote on it. I'm wondering what the outcome was.

Someone also mentioned that ODU was buying property along the road.

Long-term they are making the correct moves to control that street as ODU has the corner property on 49th and Bluestone and purchased 1301 Melrose.

But the application to city council was for the row of parking spots (between Melrose and Monterrey) on Bluestone to be vacated since this phase of the stadium is encroaching into the sidewalk and curb of Bluestone. This change will keep Bluestone as a two-way street and also allow for a wider sidewalk. It was approved at the May city council meeting.

Problem with expanding the east side, is that is the side with blinding sun, and the west side is the home side. If any side should be larger it should be the west side. Put suites to the left and right of the press box and add a level above it.
