Dallas to St Pete 1,100 miles, Houston to St Pete 1,000 miles

Temple and Navy are the only two AAC school who are farther from the Texas schools than BYU
That is okay. They will be flying planes to and from, not driving race cars to and from...
Non revenue teams travel by bus and not planes.
Most fans travel by road and not fly to away games.
The ORIGINAL statement is that the Texas schools are NOT that far from BYU which is factually incorrect.
UTEP left CUSA due to cost of competing in non revenue generating sports because it is closer from Dallas to Memphis than Dallas to El Paso..
So STUFF IT.
BYU plays its Olympic sports in the WCC. Here's a map. You can not convince me, short of a news story, that they take buses to ANY of their conference games. They are all roughly 800 miles.
1,200 miles is the CLOSEST of the current AAC schools. With some as much as 2,000 miles from BYU. And the LONGEST distance for BYU in the WCC is barely over 800 miles to Portland a little over 12 hours drive in a chartered bus. And they most likely take in Portland and Spokane while on the road instead of a single stop on the trip. The rest are well within that range.

BYU would only be considered by the AAC for FB, so distance is not a major consideration.

The fact that BYU already has their other sports in another conference makes them a prefect candidate for the very reason you mention.

Until you pair their invite with Air Force and Boise to go to 14. Then there are 3 schools in the new west division that are a lot closer to each other... like Memphis to Knoxville or closer. I don't know... It's just my idea, and it has the added benefit of basically gutting the MWC and we become the defacto P6th conference. For real.

It's plausible but I'd hope Memphis gets moved east if it happens - JMO. I'd also hope the AAC would then go to 7 conference games.

I’d go San Diego St instead of Air Force. Stronger football program and gets you a recruiting connection in California. Then, if you wanna go all sports, they all have strong basketball programs. You could also add Air Force and Army football programs to corner the market on service academy football and the political clout that would come with that.

I gotta be honest, I can't promise I won't spend every home game with BYU outside defecating on their team buses.

Bluecrew,
Why r u so angry with BYU, I think they'd be a wonderful addition to our conference
Remember they serve no alcohol on campus, no coffee or tea, so u get upset when u can't have sweet tea.
Personally I'd have trouble with no coffee, I need a strong cup before I Dance

Didn't have to attend it. Cheap shots by BYU we’re televised.

Don't need them coming in and preaching their cult of a religion on us neither.
And their seniors tend to be 24-25 years old.

RE: AAC considering Army, BYU
If the AAC has the opportunity to add BYU for football they will get it done in 5 seconds.
No brainer end of story
It would be the domino effect to creating a true Power 5 level football conference. If BYU comes all the other west coast high level outsiders will join.

Since we are speculating. This would definitely get us a P6 status and big tv money.
BYU
Boise St
San Diego St
Army
Air Force
16 teams, East and West Division. Play each division member and 1 from other division for 8 conference games a year.

Navy joined the AAC with the explicit agreement that it would be in the west. And regarding Memphis in this scenario, my preference would be to be in the east. Put Tulane in the west.

RE: AAC considering Army, BYU
Y'all need to stop trying to shoehorn Army in here. It WILL. NOT. WORK. with the A/N game, especially if you try and put them in the same division like one guy did above. I could see it if they were in separate divisions, and never played in-conference, but that just opens up a whole nuther can of worms with scheduling.
Just stop it. They don't want to be here, and Navy doesn't want them here.
