Good news is, coaches don't make these decisions. They are made about five levels above their pay grade.
You think he gave that answer without knowing his administration's thoughts on the matter?

True, but good employees in responsible positions are in the habit of ensuring agreement with their boss before making public statements.

Fair enough.

And when a coach spouts off on a topic about which his administration doesn't agree, said administration is usually quick to come out with, "What Coach MEANT to say was..."

I don't think Monken is TOO far offsides from AD/Superintendent positions. The previous Supe was clearly given marching orders to end the streak, sacrificing any and all ideals you have to (see the Daily Beast articles from December 2017); too soon to tell if the new Supe is supposed to providing some more boundaries. But institutionally they seem pleased with their current setup.

The need to denigrate Southern Miss in this thread, is prime example of why I've grown to hate college football. Southern Miss has been playing football since 1912. We are a legitimate program with a proven record of on field success and a long history with most teams in the AAC.

True, but if you were going to rank schools based on their willingness to adhere to a chain of command, Army would be first or on a really short list.

Southern Miss would be my 1st Choice to add. Ignore the trolls.

Glad you aren't in charge.

They belong in the CUSA swimmin’ hole, not our pool.

If BYU football only doesn't happen, stay at 11.

Ditto that.

There is no way a team in Hattiesburg, MS will ever be joining the AAC (unless the AAC loses 7 or 8 members).

How bout 3 of Colorado State, Utah State, AFA/or Wyoming for all sports?

Two 7 team divisions with the western side including SMU, UH, Tulsa and Navy along with the 3 new additions from the MWC.

It would certainly kneecap the MWC and all of those members are similar to current AAC membership.

Let USM get back to their old ways of 10-2, 11-1 seasons and top 25 finishes and a lot of people will want them.
