2020-2025 Bowl Tie-in Question
While I think it is unfair for Army and BYU to be allowed to tie-in and the Liberty, NMSU and Umass not. I was impressed how Liberty got a backup tie-in. I know ESPN is trying to create a bowl pool for there G5 bowls. Is Liberty looking to do a tie-in with another bowl now since ESPN bought Cure Bowl in the next cycle?
I think you all should target the following bowls for conditional tie-ins like.
Arizona Bowl
Detroit Bowl
Mobile Bowl
Independence Bowl
Something like
Arizona Bowl - 2020,2023
Mobile - 2021, 2024
Independence 2022
Detroit -2025
Just looks good for you all from a recruiting perspective and furthering proving you are worthy FBS independent. I am hoping you all make it to Cure or another bowl this year.

Army and BYU have earned them in the past few years. Note that Army didn't have one in 2018 or 2017 because Army pre-Monken hadn't earned them. Liberty did have a conditional tie-in in 2018.
Army doesn't have one in 2019 either, while Liberty will be in year two of it's conditional tie-in.

Hello MSM,
Welcome to the LU board. I have not heard anything about future bowl tie-ins. LU has one more year with Cure Bowl.
Honestly I'm open to any bowl. FBS is still very new for LU and going to any bowl is a big deal.
In the long run, southern bowls are likely preferable for recruiting reasons. Arizona and Detroit sound cool but those are outside of LU's typical recruiting areas.

RE: 2020-2025 Bowl Tie-in Question
Thank you Western Skillet, I have been on the board a few times. Ever since the blatant discrimination against Liberty football. I am that strange person that believes no religious views should be discriminated against, it violates the principles of of our Constitution. You allow for one, you allow for all" Enough about that.
Since then, I have been a been a Liberty fan. Just not when you visit my beloved Wolfpack. I do hope a future deal can be worked out for some type of H/H. I have been impressed with how well you all started your FBS independence. Problem with bowls is the ESPN owned bowls. They are trying to do a coalition of G5, Army and BYU" Since ESPN bought the cure bowl. I have a bad feeling the conditional tie-in goes away.
I agree about the southern bowl strategy but that may be difficult since they are primarily ESPN bowls or bowls the P5's will fill.
It appears Independence will lose ACC and has already lost SEC. That would be the one I believe Liberty should go after hard. Mobile would be the other. Only reason I mentioned Detroit, ACC left that and B10 rarely fills. That is why I proposed the list the way I did. With all the additions, when Liberty gets 6 wins, they are likely in a bowl. Just I think the conditional tie-ins are great PR. Something UMASS and NMSU does not have. Finally, I hope you all are make bowls the majority if not all in the 2020-2025 time frame. Moving you into BYU and Army category! Go Flames!

RE: 2020-2025 Bowl Tie-in Question
Being bowl eligible should be our priority, then worry about where we go.
With that said, I think the best bowls will be on a good network, at a great time, and great date for the highest possible viewership along with a top opponent. Visibility should be our top priority since we are the newest FBS school and we need to build up a fan base. After that, then worry about the location, payout, etc. We do need a place where the maximum number of fans travel to so as to make us desirable in the future.

A liberty U with 7 or 8 wins would be attractive to the Myrtle Beach Bowl. Even though that bowl has 3 tie ins the bowl committee will take a long hard look at a well funded Liberty U thats less than 300 miles away. That will be played at 20k seat stadium.

I’ve said a few times that we should look to try to get a primary deal with them.

RE: 2020-2025 Bowl Tie-in Question
Not sure about future tie-ins, but we have to get 7 wins to be secure with a bowl game while we have multiple FCS wins on our schedule, 8 or more to be guaranteed anything more than our current tie-in.
We have a great shot to do that this year with the new coaching staff & transfers, but it will not be easy.

8 doesn’t give us any guarantee. We could go 12-0 and still miss a bowl game.

If we go 12-0 beating my Orangemen along with UVA, BYU, Rutgers, and Buffalo- we're going to a bowl game, and a much better one than the Cure or Myrtle Beach Bowls.

I don’t think you understand how the bowl system works. There are tie ins for all bowls. Unless those bowls go unfilled then there is no way for us to get into the game. That’s why conference affiliation is important. So assuming we go 12-0 and all conferences fill their bowl slots we would not get into a bowl game (only exception would be a NY6 that is an at large bid but most have secondary agreements similar to ours and the Cure Bowl).

My original post was suggesting back up tie-ins since Liberty can get a primary one. Also, provide the opportunity to jump an at-large.

The Liberty Bowl should move to Williams Stadium.

A great lineup for our first official bowl agreement!
Thanks for the update. Great variety for the next few years.

RE: 2020-2025 Bowl Tie-in Question
Ian was interviewed and said the pool of bowls may grow past the current six. I wonder which others we may get into.
