That's much better but drop James Madison. Add FIU/Ark State/Troy and move MTSU back to the North with WKU/Marshall.

That's terrible. Give me:

USM
LT
UNT
Troy
USA
ULL
UAB
Ark State
MTSU
WKU
Marshall
Georgia Southern, Georgia State, or App State

You would only have 2 crossovers.

No need to have so many teams. All schools are decent in basketball and football.

Somebody petition for conferences larger than 15 members, to be able to have 3-4 divisions, have a 4-team playoff, then eat the ENTIRE SUNBELT, and split into geographically tight 5-6 team divisions along political/geographic lines.

You can be in the biggest market in the country, if .0001% of the people in that market actually care about your school, it's irrelevant. Birmingham cares about Tigers, Elephants, and Bulldogs, not Dragons.

Well, the best thing to come out of Hattiesburg is the interstate to New Orleans, so...

RE: CBS Article: Who Replaces UConn?
It is easier to see why CUSA is at 14 schools after everything said in these AAC threads.
Some schools were already here, some were great additions.
Some are still diamonds in the rough.
Some may be fools gold.
Anyhow, our leaders made all those additions during a very volatile period.
I can see each schools advantages and why they were added ahead of others that were not.
Travel issues and costs were not driving the bus back then.

Exactly right! Every school is going to have their list of ideal conference-mates but any larger than 12 should be a non-starter. And smaller 9 or 10 seems even better.

Fun fact. Marshall had the 2nd most watched bowl game not involving a P5 team on cable. Behind the Houston Army game.

Pretty good for a team with no market

This. I imagine stats like these are the things that ESPN and the American look at.

I'm not getting my hopes up, because I realistically think we are like option 7, but to those who scream markets, markets..... You got to have eyeballs.

I think this is an example of "brand" when people were having that discussion. Marshall is bigger than its market.

I didn’t make a comment about USM. While I’d love to be picked up, I realize the hurdles we’d have to overcome. UAB won’t even be considered.

As a former sports journalist, I can say that only the biggest names make decent bank. It is not a profession for people who like money.

You can be as talented as you want, it's too much work for too little pay if you even get a job.

Then it looks like we'll be sharing a conference for the foreseeable future.

I think we could transform both basketball and football programs into AAC powers. Your athletic department looks like they have the resources to do so. Great facilities with a brand new football stadium already good basketball arena. Location extremely close to multiple American schools. A fan base that will show up vs teams like Cincinnati, Houston, UCF etc.

I really like ODU actually, but they aren’t my first choice.

1. BYU
2. Boise
3. ODU
4. Army
5. Stay at 11

No, your first choice is "Dora the Explorer" and a juice box while you wait for your mother to finish with the computer.
