I’ve been quiet the past couple years as ECU has been so awful in FB but this Uconn thing has brought some of my favorite posters back today!
Shere has been top notch today. Quo has made some of the funniest posts of his (let Uconn fb only stay in the AAC bawhahaha) and my fav Memphis and UCF and USF posters are all back with a vengeance.

Some how I have trouble believing ESPN is that kind initially agreeing to 12 teams with content and now got 11 teams for content. Seems the payout would be the same per school just removing UCONN from the contract. Fairest thing for both sides.
In addition, how does the AAC get around the Division round robin requirement for a CCG? NCAA may allow a short term waiver but I doubt they will provide a long term waiver if AAC willingly says they are staying at 11.
For those who say what about UMASS and the MAC, UMASS was kicked out of the MAC. CUSA & UAB. UAB was back after two years. Unless Aresco get other conferences to do the CCG rules change, AAC may need a 12th team since they are getting a years notice to keep 2020 CCG. Not saying it will happen but AAC is expecting a bunch of goodwill from the NCAA and other conferences to give them special consideration.
You can have a CCG between division champs, even if the divisions are uneven. Rules only say you have to round robin within the division. It's definitely a schedule challenge. I'm glad it's not my job to figure that out.
As far as going divisionless, and matching up the top two, the recently changed (per the BigXII proposal) rules say you have to round-robin within the conference to have a CCG without divisions.
However, I understand that you can request a waiver from the NCAA. Would it be granted? Who knows. I don't. But it is possible that we could stay at 11 after the 2019 football season and request a waiver due to the Big East poaching us, and still have CCG in 2020 and beyond.

So Navy made a strong play to be in the West division. Better suits our national profile and we like the institutional similarities with SMU, Tulane, Tulsa (including more history with them than anyone in the East including Temple for two out of those three).
However, I don't think that was a condition for joining like keeping Army-Navy, Saturday-only home games, no Thanksgiving home games, or 8-game conference schedule.
We'll press to stay in the West, and press hard (Memphis, you like those guys, right?), but I don't think it is an existential question.

RE: Scheduling is becoming more challenging in football. Stay at 11.
Since this topic was about staying at 11 and scheduling, has anybody seen anything about how a future 11 team conference would do this? If it's a single division (which I don't think we can do given the apparent rules that the stipulations are either round robin schedule or two divisions, and we're never doing a 10 game conference schedule), it's easy - just play 8 teams every year (not unlike basketball). If it's 2 divisions, it gets funky. Presuming we keep the divisions the same, then the West goes on like it did - playing 5 division games and 3 games vs. a East teams. The East gets a little bit strange, though. The only way I see this working out is if 3 of the teams play 4 games vs. West teams and 2 teams play a home/home to get to 8 games. I suppose they could rotate that (who plays the home/home every year), but that really seems suboptimal...

Or, as another option, we do a deal with Army/BYU where they agree to play 2 games/year against rotating East division teams to replace that home/home that would count in the standings as conference games for those two teams, and as part of that agreement, they join our bowl coalition (but not be eligible for any NY6/playoff bowl).

I'm all for you guys going to the BE as I think its a great move for hoops, but let's be real on football...the move was your school signalling the white flag. You guys may look at FCS down the road (if you can...I heard your stadium deal with the state mandates you remain FBS...if so, that is going to be painful).

I would tend to agree if we were talking about one of the teams that has a lot of games OTA. With UConn, most of their games are ESPN+ quality content, so they don't technically represent a full share.
ESPN will, however, lose out of the right to re-sell the womens basketball games. For that, we'd be willing to give back tens of dollars.

Posted this in the realignment board. Essentially you can "do" hidden divisions AND guarantee the top 2 teams play against each other. Here is the math:
Quote:IF the AAC can get a waiver to skip 1 (measly) division game solely on the basis of having 11 members, then they can mathematically guarantee that the top 2 teams in the conference meet for the Conference Championship.
//////////
1. Every team has 6 permanent rivals and alternates the other 4 every other year for 8 conference games apiece.
2. The 2 conference opponents skipped in a given year follows the following pattern. Neighboring teams are skipped:
Odd numbered years: A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H-I-J-K-A
Even numbered years: A-I-G-E-B-D-F-C-K-H-J-A
so team G, for example, skips F and H in odd numbered years and I and E in even numbered years.
If A and G are the top two teams, the "divisions" (for purposes of determining division champs and the round-robin conditions thereof) might look like this
Odd years (div 1) A,C,E,F,H,J
Odd years (div 2) B,D,G,I,K
Even years (div 1) A,I,E,D,C,H
Even years (div 2) G,B,F,K,J
In the odd year example, only division-mates E and F did not play each other, satisfying the conditions of the waiver.
In the even year example, only division-mates A and I did not play each other, satisfying the conditions of the waiver.
The actual make-up of the divisions is moot (any of several permutations would satisfy the constraints), as any 2 teams can ALWAYS be paired in the CCG. Conference standings would be listed in one table. The nitty-gritty would then be determining tie-breakers when not all teams have played one another.

And sadly UCONN won’t have any better production in the FCS if that’s the route they decide to go. Almost a shame I guess.

There may be some merit to this. Say, Navy agrees to phase out her membership for an alliance with the American. Say, Army and Navy agree to play 5 games a year against our members for access to our bowl games. This may give the schools access to bowl games and more freedom to complete the mission of playing games across the country.
Navy would have to request something like this. Navy's winning a football championship in our conference is highly unlikely.
Our Defensive Linemen love this idea.
