Marketing agreement gives UAB $17 million boost
https://www.tuscaloosanews.com/news/2019...lion-boost

As part of a recently amended marketing and broadcast rights agreement, University of Alabama at Birmingham athletics will receive about $17 million in guaranteed royalties over the life of the deal with at least another $16 million possible under additional revenue sharing provisions.

The 10-year agreement would run from July 1 June 30, 2029. UAB would get a guaranteed royalty payment that would increase from $1.25 million in the first year to $1.9 million in year 10. Last year, UAB received about $355,000 from the agreement, Ingram estimated.

Great news. How great depends on how the money is spent. Still, it is recognition of UAB's increased visibility as an athletic program, both within the conference and nationwide.

Next step would be to expand merchandising outside of just sales from the UAB Bookstore.

"UAB Athletics plan to use the equipment stipend to upgrade score boards at the baseball and softball complexes, Ingram said. It also plans to add a score board at the new beach volleyball complex. Ingram said UAB also plans to install a large marquee on University Boulevard in Birmingham to advertise events."

Well that's pretty exciting. Seemed like the stadium reviews from people that went to the softball conference championship were positive, so this should help even more.

Yep, all good additions. The article mentioned that IMG would begin providing the equipment stipend in year 3 of the contract so I wonder if those upgrades wouldn't happen until 2021-2022?
