Its definitely a good chance for them. NIU is in rebuild mode and Illinois State is maxing out. This was their best year to catch NIU

It sure is. Bowers better get here and liven up our offense.

NIU is not in re-build mode! They clearly are a favorite to get to the MAC Championship game.

Niu will be rolling out a new style of offense, which ISU has zero film on. Still lots of good players returning on both sides of the ball.

The hell is everyone smoking calling NIU in re-build mode?

Almost everyone is back on defense and they have a QB now.

You quoted MD. That was your mistake.

Agreed, we are not rebuilding and should be as good or better (depending on offensive production). We should be good, but can be vulnerable to an isu loss and victim to a tough ooc schedule

Unbelievable. This team is most certainly not in “rebuild mode”

One could say the Coaching Staff has been rebuilt.

Our D should be very solid.....again.

Offensive Line? Enough play makers on O to be respectful. QB play will be the difference between a good team and a great team. Regardless, I love the energy of this new staff.

RE: QB transfer from Cal
While it may not be a rebuild it certainly could be another season where the offense is not good. All the offensive players are learning a new pro-style offense. An offense that does not fit our current QB, Marcus Childers', skillset at all. He owns all the experience on our current QB roster. Then we have a brand new transfer QB who isn't even here yet and will only have 20 (?) practices in camp before the season begins.

A rebuild is usually just finding the right QB. NIU has been in “rebuild” mode for over two seasons. Since Maddie. If Bowers steps in and plays like we hope, 90% of the rebuilding is done. The rest is just college football turnover.

I so hope he comes in, takes command, and make this offense explosive and fun to watch again. It could be a very exciting season if he does.

Can you imagine how good Tears can be with a legit QB who can throw the deep ball?

Tears has a lot of work to do to be a top WR. Hopefully coaching and improved passer and he can be better.

Yeah, quite easily actually. No need to look further than Tears (and Blake) with Santa before Santa was banished to Mississippi swampland. #CareyGenius

He will certainly improve....but greats like Golladay can make it happen with anyone behind center

Tears biggest obstacle has been coaching. Once the offense runs routes, he will have a better chance.

Yes to argue this is not a rebuild is insane. New Coach, lost defensive impact players, new QB, new offense. If NIU goes 6-6 this year, Hammock deserves coach of the year, no doubt about that (6-6 considering non-conf schedule is one of most difficult in nation).

Bowers had 3039 yards, 18 touchdowns and 12 INT playing a PAC 10 schedule. He is now in the MAC and two years older. Tears will have no excuses. He can make the throws.
