RE: NEW stadium construction
I got my 2 tickets back after a two year hiatus because of work. Previously had b-ball tix (‘02) and football tix (‘09). What stinks, though, is I’ve lost all my BBC/ODAF points that I had attained from those years and will now have to start all over from the bottom. Hopefully I’ll be able to get my 2 in either the $100 or $50 sections.

I hope they will be able to schedule an actual tour at some point, like they did with the Ted.

I agree ! I think after the steel and overhead crane work they could do something like that. They could also use it as a fund raiser for the next phase.

I decreased from 6 to 2 season tickets. The two couples we used to buy tickets for said it was too costly for them to purchase.

Increased from 2 to 4, with a couple we brought to an ODU basketball game last year already committing to buying 2 season tickets to hoops as well.

Way to go, JS! We did the same for football and hoops. We're moving up to the 4400 club this year too.

A couple of new things about the stadium. It appears they have removed the giant big blue logo graphic and adjacent shield graphics that were behind the press box. I think thats a shame as it really branded the stadium nicely were impressive and made it very festive. That was one of my favorite parts of the scaled back design. They've replaced that (from the renderings) with a tiny ODU logo on the back of the press box and the ugly crown on the top side of the GDB. Not pleased with that.

The addition of the scoreboard this year could be good news or bad news. If its a great scoreboard I will welcome it. But if its going in the same location, then I guess it will likely be about the same size. Which is unimpressive. It also means it will likely not be elevated over the end zone any time soon. Which makes me think we may not get the new end zone in the next year or two as hoped. Am I reading too much into this? I keep thinking a high tech horizontal scoreboard elevated over a nice north end zone complex is the only thing keeping this stadium from being able to compete quite nicely with many G5 facilities.

From what I've heard (and my sources are by no means extraordinary), I wouldn't expect much past the Phase 1 version of the stadium in the near term.

I think it will compete with most of the G5 stadiums as is in terms of being nice. But if there is any desire to hit that P6 level (and I don't believe that is a real level beyond the AAC's mindset), we need to have 27k or more in seats. And that end zone curve could possibly do it. But it doesn't look like our planning mindset is requiring that, so I am just going to enjoy sitting in my nice cushiony seats.

I agree I really liked the logo on the wall. Now it looks kinda plain.

I keep looking at South Dakota State as a model of what we could have already. Huge score board, and similar size stadium to what we are getting. Doing the project a few years earlier really saved them some $$$ vs what we are spending and what we are getting.

Love that scoreboard and those suites. I was really hoping our board would be that size.

SDSU is a FCS model, not FBS. NT, FAU and SMU are stadiums we should model SB Ballard stadium after, in that 30-32k range. If you are not at or near 30k, FBS is not for you. I don’t really like that ODU is trying to sell us on quality over quantity. It needs to be quality and meet a certain quantity. I’m not saying we need a 60k seat stadium but 30k should be the minimum. Look at the Ted, very nice and definitely not at the bottom of D1 in terms of capacity. The new stadium will be great but as long as the current north endzone bleachers are there and the scoreboard is in the current location it will be an unfinished product. I think we finish it one day be it needs to be sooner than later

The ONLY way we will ever see a 30K seat stadium is if we are selling out a 25K seat stadium, there is a waiting list, and there is an opportunity to move to a larger conference. ODU does not have the energetic Alumni base, corporate base, or frankly an administration that would spend another $30M on a football stadium.

The dude who doesn’t buy season tickets is critiquing the fan base 03-lmfao

What a joke! You are so negative man why don’t you spend your time somewhere else.

You are clueless....I buy 10 season tickets and have bought 10 since the beginning. Do you buy 10 ? I also give a ton of money to ODAF. I also have an endowed scholarship. I think you need to setup. Just because I gave you a perspective you don't like is NO reason to attack someone. It is not negative it is just realistic.

I agree with MrBigBlue here. His opinion is that there needs to be more engagement and a waiting list from alumni and fans and that's the only way we move to 30k. I agree with that. If I were the AD I'd look at the data and come to the same conclusion. It's easy for us fans to say "if you build it they will come" and build a bigger one but none of us are ultimately responsible for that decision. Given the continuous decline in attendance country-wide and inexpensive at home options I'd say ODU didn't make the fan favorite decision, but a wise one.

Agree. I don't see ODU bucking a national trend of reduced attendance. I think 10 years from now we'll all be in agreement this was the right move. That doesn't preclude improving the north end zone for a more finished look.
