Maybe Thad will run for Senate?

This is such a dumb post.

- Chris Beard was a flash in the pan low mid-major coach in 2016 and just went to a national championship game this year.

- Kelvin Sampson was caught cheating multiple times at several programs and he was just named the American coach of the year this year.

- Bob Huggins is a known drunk, got a DUI, got fired, and later went to a final four with West Virginia.

This is the nature of college basketball.

Just go punch a horse....you will feel better

I'll punch as many horses as it takes to get to a NC.

In the meantime you can sit home and fret about our "image".

We're done listening to your side--it got us over a decade of post-season mediocrity. It's time to start winning in the post-season again.

Hire a winner, pay him, and get the recruits in here.
NEVER HAPPENING - RECRUITING INTO THE AAC IS BAD NEWS. Cronin ran to UCLA because he can get any west coast kid he wants - lots of cash to buy talent. Hep will be the bag man.

Whoa...wait a minute...I thought Cronin was "Mr. Clean"? Now he's going to "buy" recruits?

Recruits follow the cred of the COACH in CBB. Cronin has no cred...he'll still have a tough time pulling talent until he actually DOES something in the post-season.

Recruiting to the AAC depends on the cred of the coach...that's why Penny is pulling 4 and 5 stars, as well as Sampson and Hurley.

Get a coach with cred and the recruits will follow. Works every time.

Sampson has gotten one 4-star (Nate Hinton) in his time at Houston. Marshall just pulled in his first ever 4 star, why isn't Wichita State filling with top recruits if it's all about coach cred? I don't think there's any debate (especially now that Cronin is gone) that Marshall is the best coach in the conference.

UConn got three 4-stars this year, but they are a historically great program with a pair of relatively recent tournament titles. And still no 5-star guys.

Memphis is the only team really blowing us out of the water in recruiting.

Mick wasn't getting it done in recruiting, his 'recruit projects' ploy is one of the reasons we never score and have a turtle offense and also why we can't win in March. Glad he's gone. The entire staff need blown up and lets get someone in here that can bring us to modern basketball.

Where are Sampson's 4 and 5-stars? Where are Marshall's 4 and 5 stars? Resort to ad hominem attacks because you can't back your argument up.

There's a difference between no cred and pulling in 4 and 5 stars. A good coach will likely keep us right around where we have been recruiting wise. Maybe push us into the 40-60 recruiting class range. But there is no miracle like Penny was (and we still haven't seen if he can coach) that lets us compete with big conference schools.

2019 Commits:
UCONN:
three 4* (Gaffney, Akok, Bouknight)
National Rank: 19
Program has't done squat since 2014 and has a new coach...but looky what he did already in regards to recruiting

Memphis:
one 4* and one 5* (not done yet and other big names on list and they will land some of them, more 4 and 5 star kids)
National Rank: 9

If they can do it in this conference, so can we. Heck WSU has one four star player in 2019 class (ranked higher than Curtis, who is a 3* on 247). Mick had ZERO four star players for 2019...ZERO. He sucked at recruiting. Curtis looks like a nice player and I'm excited to have him but just going off recruit rankings, and using 247, which is where all the rankings come from in my post, he is a 3*. Three teams have 4 or 5* kids in 2019 class. We are not one of the three. So to suggest we can't do that is just ridiculous.

Thanks for your doom and gloom but they are all just excuses....just like Mick gave.

Houston literally JUST got a 4* Top 100 player last year in Nate Hinton

Landry Shamet and Markus McDuffie were both 4*s for WSU, as were Darrlyn Willis and Samajee Jones (both JUCOs, '16 and '18 respectively).

The "He's the Top Ranked Center in Canada [but the 500th ranked player in the class who can't catch a basketball or play any semblance of offense his first two years here]" spiel will be WONDERFUL at UCLA.

The one note I will make, Cronin got a 4* player in '14, '15, '16, and '17, two in '11, and a 5* in '13...the last two years he clearly wasn't able to sink his teeth into any top-end guys (and it showed on the court when we had literally no depth), but he was able to get some good players through the years here. I think the thing that was the final straw for me was the complete ambivalence to the tournament in combination with a clear decline in recruiting results and his lack of any sort of innovation in his play style while leaning on results against poor competition.

Depends on the service you are looking at; McDuffie was a four star for Marshall on the 247 boards. Mick did a great job here; but I really was disappointed in his 2018 class; we got very little this year out of the four players. Being that he could sell that they would be the first in the renovated arena I expected better. Yes in the long run one or more of the class may deliver for us. I really questioned the red shirting of two players; thought Hardnett maybe could have provided some front court scoring for us. Mick probably thought Fredericks, Diarra and Nsoseme were going to contribute more. While next year seemed promising if everyone returned; I really have doubts about the following season. Our 2020 recruiting class will be critical; wonder if Mick's doubts about it led to his decision to leave. Another reason is if Cumberland leaves then Mick's NCAA consecutive appearances streak probably would have been in serious jeopardy next season.

All of the above for WSU were depending on the service you look at. Right in the high 3, low 4 star range that Cronin has also consistently recruited at.

This is also right around the level UC has, should and likely will continue to recruit at. Converrl acts like we should be bringing in classes of 4 and 5 stars and Cronin just didn't have the cred. But Marshall and Sampson (the two best proven coaches in our league) recruit at the same level as Cronin did.

We're in good shape even if Cumberland leaves. We are likely still a top 25 team if he leaves. We are a top 15 team if he stays (which seems very likely). People thought our streak was going to end last year too and we were in quite a bit worse shape then. We've got a solid pipeline of players already in the program ready to step in over the next few years. We just need a coach who can continue to develop players. I think Mick expected more from Fredericks, he was supposed to be Scott's backup and our lack of a backup for Scott was an issue all year.

If we want someone with proven recruiting chops for 4 and 5 *s from "the list" its...

Thad Matta with a bad back or

Bryce Drew with an 0-18 SEC record last year.

So....

Maybe push us into the 40-60 recruiting class range. But there is no miracle like Penny was (and we still haven't seen if he can coach) that lets us compete with big conference schools.

Houston literally JUST got a 4* Top 100 player last year in Nate Hinton

Landry Shamet and Markus McDuffie were both 4*s for WSU, as were Darrlyn Willis and Samajee Jones (both JUCOs, '16 and '18 respectively).

Houston just got their first ever 4 star player last year and has all 3-stars coming in this year.

We are coming off back to back 30 win seasons and look at Micks' 2018 and 2019 classes. LOL. Yeah, that's all you need to know.

We've got a solid pipeline of players already in the program ready to step in over the next few years. We just need a coach who can continue to develop players. I think Mick expected more from Fredericks, he was supposed to be Scott's backup and our lack of a backup for Scott was an issue all year.

Who's going to score in that scenario? Not many top 25 teams averaging <50 points per game.

Drew is exciting and scary. Yea recruiting, but i always believe that losers always lose and he did a lot of losing last year. One catch is that sometimes you have to hit bottom to build it up with young studs.

I'd dispute the good shape if he leaves. I think we'll be solid but right back in the 30-40 range that the analytics had us at last year unless Samari is better than advertised or we get a high level transfer we'd be pretty bad at guard. Logan was a turnover issue in limited time so maybe that goes away with more consistent playing time. Keith was a turnover issue in extended playing time and is not a good passer for a guard. That backcourt is potentially a disaster.

He also won 4 Horizon league titles in 5 years and had Vandy in the tournament in 2017. The last two seasons are a black mark but he lost nearly everyone from the 2017 team and was clearly upgrading the talent.

I agree that he is probably the biggest combo of exciting and scary. The utter collapse this season losing every SEC game is brutal, but he has a winning track record prior to the last two seasons and has shown big time recruiting chops.

Too risky. He probably a good coach who just got into a bad situation, but he needs a mid major gig to re-establish his credibility.

^This is where I am with him.

He was a winner in the 1998 NCAAs and won at Valpo as HC . But yeah selling 0-18 to this fan base would be brutal. Maybe the AAC would be his wheelhouse between the Horizon and the SEC. The pedigree is there.

Other players would step up. Brooks and Scott could combine for 30 per game if they were they were more of the focus of the offense. Williams is one of those high 3/low 4 star recruits who should be able to step up his scoring as well. Some combination of our bench guys would become bigger contributors. College basketball is about guys leaving/graduating and new guys developing and stepping in to fill the role. Every other good team manages and we manage. Heard the exact same thing last yea and we ended up fine.
