Tuning in to listen to Chad Brendel. The rest of the show will be terrible.

Lol, he is already going down that path. Says odds of new coach being as successful as Mick is not great. Odds of getting better recruits is not great.

LOL Yep. Basically this is a hopeless situation for any coach.

is Brendel saying this too???

Yeah he's on now. Painting the same picture as Mo. No surprise. Basically saying they don't have the $$$ to complete as a Top 20 program. I get the impression the BCJ guys don't like Bohn at all.

That's the other thing the local media does. Immediately turns to local guys, former players/coaches, or anyone that has any connection whatsoever to the "tri-state". I'm surprised they didn't suggest Pete Rose as the new basketball coach.

I've seen a lot of that from a lot of posters on this board.

Cumberland has no shot getting drafted in the NBA. He is going to have to decide whether he wants to continue his education or quit school and go work in the G League or Europe.

This is not a shock at all. That’s the way this town thinks. Chad’s deal is he has to take the coaches side in all this cause that’s where his connections are. He gets nothing out of cozying up to the AD.

He is coming on after the break.

Remember, WLW is the same network who said UC could never hire anyone better than Rick Minter back in 2003 (Richard Skinner). Not that I am comparing Mick to Rick Minter, but the sentiment is the same.

I happened to be driving when Skinner said that so I can attest to it first hand. Dantonio then went about setting the table for the single most successful era in UC football.

Cincinnati is a great city but we often suffer from a collective lack of civic self-esteem when it comes to our downtrodden sports teams. I for one will have no trouble giving credit to Mick if the next coach comes in and takes the program up another step--Cronin built a good foundation. But if we don't believe we can ever do better we might as well throw in the towel and go to Division 3 competition.

Now talking about NVE. Comparing to Penny Hardaway, saying he doesn't have the recruiting connections.

Brendel says they are not going to give Pitino or Huggins (duh) a call. But he thinks McMahon is worth a call, and that Bryce Drew is worth a call.

Per Chad:

Brannen (Homerun hire). Other guys worth a call.

Sleeper: Bryce Drew

Pitino will not get a call.

Mentioned Brannen and Van Exel. Van Exel doesn't have any recruiting connections. Mentioned Bryce Drew (he would be terrible IMO, only because the dude would leave the first chance he gets). Basically said they can only attract mid majors. Said no on Pitino and Huggins. Surprised they wouldn't even entertain giving Matta a call.

McMahon would be the absolute worst hire of all the names I've seen mentioned IMO.

Bryce Drew intrigues me. Just need more background why this season was such a disaster (I realize losing Garland was big, but still)

Agreed. I think he's your classic jumper too. One good year and he bolts back to the P5. He just comes across that way IMO.

I'd don't get this attitude. So if we aren't a blue blood we shouldn't bother? Doing better then Cronin's regular season success will be close to impossible and doing as well is going to be difficult. Doing better in the NCAA tournament is quite possible, but the NCAA tournament comes down to a lot more luck. Given our money and status as a third tier school, asking a coach to do better then being a top 25 team every year while getting paid the money of a number 50 team is a big ask. Eventually conferences will realign and we can pay better, but for now we are near our peak for regular season success.

If we don't have the money to compete, why did we spend all this money on an arena?

These guys are all like Mick. Full of excuses....
