Cline is Purdue's Justin Jenifer. Does Mick need to offer everyone whose dad is from Ohio?

I'm in the UC will be an attractive job and would have the opportunity to find a damn good coach but what beard has done in his one year at Little Rock and then in Lubbock might be unprecedented. He might be one of a kind.

Of course you don't offer every kid with a dad from Ohio.
Are you sure Cline's Purdue's Jenifer?
Statistically there are some similarities but...
Cline's 6'6"
Jenifer's 5'10"
Cline's 8" taller!
One of the beefs with Jenifer was he was too short to defend. That would not be an issue with Cline.
Jennifer averaged 8.6 ppg in the AAC.
Cline averaged 12 ppg in the Big10.
Cline averaged 3.4 more points per game in a better conference.

Maybe Mick knows most big time recruits are being funneled to certain programs. Will be interesting to see if anything comes out of these latest allegations against Nike.

That's a bold guarantee...
Do you know him or his father to be able to guarantee that he had no interest in UC?

You're right... Cline is arguably worse. The only difference is that they play different positions. One is a PG and the other is an SG.
If you look at their first three years, they both average below 6 pts a game.
This year, Cline had a higher usage rate - on average he played about 8 more minutes a game and had over 100 more FG attempted this season. And he only managed to get 3 more points a game than Jenifer.
He's just a white guy that happens to live within a 300 mile radius of UC that went off in one NCAA tourney game that some on this board loves to rub itself raw over. In Purdue's other tourney games, he scored 5, 12, and finally 7 in their loss to Virginia. He would have been our third best prospect at best in that class, behind Jacob Evans and Justin Jenifer.

He lives within 90 miles (not 300 miles) of UC in Carmel IN. It's a suburb of Indy in case you aren't familiar. UC could've used him but guessing he didn't get a sniff.

I know, right? It's like when people think it's impossible to win the lottery. All you have to do is pick a few 1 or 2 digit numbers and viola - you're a millionaire!
Only difference is most coaches will leave for a higher paying gig once they start being successful. Win the lottery and you get to spend it however you like ('tho the govment do take a bite).
So you are equating finding another coach equal/better than Mick as winning the lottery? Funny.
XU has found a suitable replacement 4 times in a row (after their coaches left for higher paying jobs). With that great luck, maybe they should play Powerball more often? They could use the winnings to pay their coaches more to stay.

And that's why UC should never, ever even think of getting rid of Cronin--because the risk of going from mediocre to good outweighs the safety of consistent performance.
Empty that arena.

Whether the risk is worth it is debatable, but that arena ain't emptying out anytime soon as miserable as you seem to be.

So nine straight tourneys along with going 89-18 and 46-8 in conference games and winning the last two AAC championship tourneys and being ranked in the top 25, top 5 and top 30 National polls over the last 3 years is "mediocre"?
I'd be thrilled if you got the level of your posts up to an equivalent level. Heck, I"d be thrilled if you just got close to mediocre. Repeatedly posting "Empty that arena" coming off a season of mostly near full houses isn't clever, it's actually quite inane. But you do you.

Yep. Apparently we only have a 1 in 275 million chance of finding a good coach by that ridiculous logic.

Were the Bengals mediocre when they couldn't win a playoff game under Marvin?
I'd vote yes...
Yet by the exact same logic...you would vote no.

Agreed, but I think those who think the arena will empty out WITH him, are much worse.
I think Mick stays, but either way, UC basketball will survive, and thrive, and I'm looking forward to next season.

Agreed, attendance definitely won't decrease by much, if any, if Mick stays. The arena was packed all season, and I expect about the same next season.
I will say, however, that if Mick left and we replaced him with a coach that recruits more talented players and puts them in a better position to score, I think we would see demand for UC tickets skyrocket. If we are already at 90-100% capacity, imagine what it would be like if we could put together an effective and exciting offense.
That effect could be magnified if it is a big name, like Thad Matta, or if his assistant is a UC legend like NVE.

No it's an exaggeration pointing out the folly of you simplifying the coach replacement search down to "just find them" - like every school in the country isn't doing the same thing often with more resources. Followed by the folly of thinking that if you are lucky enough to find one, he will actually stay 13 years and counting and/or it will be a simple "rinse and repeat" scenario when he does move on for one of the many lucrative opportunities he will be a candidate for. For every Xavier (btw the majority of those posting here about Steele earlier this year were calling him the bust that ended the string) I can cite you a UCLA, a Pitt, a Houston, a UNLV, a UMass, an Indiana, a Syracuse, an Ohio State, a Georgetown, a Memphis, an LSU, a Georgia Tech, a Utah, etc. that either had or are still having a hard time finding a coach they are happy with to keep them at such great heights. Much less one who will stay there.

RE: CRONIN
I hate to toss some positivity into this thread
From the Athletic in an anonymous survey of a 110 college basketball players
https://theathletic.com/900891/2019/04/0...red-money/
Quote:4. Which coach other than your own would you most like to play for?
Top result: Mike Krzyzewski (33.6 percent)
Runners-up: Tom Izzo (6.4), John Calipari (5.5)
Also receiving multiple votes (in descending order): Roy Williams, Bruce Pearl, Buzz Williams, Rick Barnes, Chris Beard, Mick Cronin, Mark Few, Kelvin Sampson, Jay Wright
And since some like to rehash the past
Quote:5. Which coach would you least like to play for?
Top result: Bob Huggins (9.1 percent)
Runners-up: John Calipari, Tom Izzo and Frank Martin (6.4 percent each)
Also receiving multiple votes (in descending order): Jim Boeheim, Greg Gard, Mike Krzyzewski, Richard Pitino, Brad Underwood, Rick Pitino, Steve Prohm, Shaka Smart
In their own words …
“Bob Huggins. Just too aggressive for me. That’s not my style. I need to be able to talk to my guy.”
“Calipari. I really like an Xs and Os coach. He runs off talent. He doesn’t have to turn a three-star player into a five-star player.”
“The Michigan State coach, just because I saw a video on him.”
