I suspect it’s just due to his adversity & it’s always hard to put a current era player on an all-time list. He is definitely the one DB I considered vs Lezotte.

RE: Who's Your JMU Football Mount Rushmore?
Man this is impossible.

I started by excluding coaches, just to make the mission somewhat possible. Can’t compare coaches vs players; they need their own different mountains.

First three names that jumped to my mind were Landers, Moats, and Scotty McGee. Absolute game changers. That 2008 team is probably my favorite team, and it sucks that they didn’t win and Landers got hurt.

If we were building a fictional team and had to pick from all players at their absolute peak with performance, health, and everything else, I might take Vad Lee even over Landers. But the reality of injuries and him playing on a team that gave up 80 points a game on defense (thereby eliminating playoff success) probably leaves him off the mountain. Still worth noting how good he was and what a high character guy he is though.

Tony LeZotte was like a 9 time All-American in only 4 years, so let’s put him in there. Crazy good his entire career.

Was Warren Marshall fantastic? Yes. Were his numbers better because he’s one of the few elite JMU RBs who didn’t play in like a five-headed monster in the RBBC era? Probably. Hard for me to put any RB on there because there’s such a multi-way tie at the top. Khalid Abdullah was insane at his peak also.

2004 team was so balanced and so many different guys made the big play at the right time. Let’s throw the names Cortez Thompson and DD Boxley in the conversation as evidence of the fact that sometimes one gigantic play can spark something special. Not diminishing their entire careers, but the punt return vs UD and that catch at WM both are etched in everybody’s mind as moments of, “Something really special is happening here.”

Give me Gary Clark, Rodney Landers, Arthur Moats, and Scotty McGee.

RE: Who's Your JMU Football Mount Rushmore?
Haley, Matthews, Landers, McGee.

Arguments for all others are great and this is much harder than I thought it would be. For me, Moats, Rascati, and Schor are the runners up. My rationale? One each of coach, offense, defense, and special teams. Haley is the best pro and arguably the best defensive player to ever come from JMU (understanding Moats won the Buchanan). Matthews is the ol' ball coach and bought JMU into prominence. McGee and Landers to me are the most exciting special teams and offensive players we have ever had. That's a personal opinion and can be validly argued for others, but that's my pick and I'm sticking to it.

First of all gotta do coaches or players only - no mixing.

Also, is it who we think were the best players or our favorite?

RE: Who's Your JMU Football Mount Rushmore?
Players only to me is kinda easy...

Haley
Clark
Moats
Lezotte

I could come up with a pretty solid top 20.

Haley would be on my list but I have heard so many people say he is a jerk and will do next to nothing for JMU.

If I am wrong, sorry Charles.

I do know this, I have not seen his name attached to a thing at JMU for a very long time.

He could do so much with his name/fame/stature

Charles is one of the most nicest guys you will ever meet. Watch the NFL Network "A football life" about Charles. Charles is a bit different and has had his struggles. It wouldn't surprise me if he didn't handle his own finances.

I believe it was Haley who pulled strings for the team to practice in the Dallas Cowboys indoor facility when it was 20 outside in Frisco 2016

If am wrong about Haley, I sincerely apologize. I do not know the man.

Charles is on my Mt. Dukesmore now.

It would have been great to see Haley on College Game Day.

RE: Who's Your JMU Football Mount Rushmore?
Carrier (because he started the FB program)
Haley (because he is the biggest name of all the pro Dukes)
Moats (because he loves JMU and has given back the most of any ex-FB player)
Matthews (because he coached the first NC, and has won the most games and served the longest tenure as a HC. PS: He also coached the team to perhaps the biggest win in JMU FB history, 21-16 over VT)
