Baseball vs Nicholls St

Parker White (2-2, 1.93 ERA) is slated to start for the Colonels. Against LSU, he was perfect through three before allowing a pair of hits in the fourth inning. Jarod Wright (0-2, 7.04 ERA) will take the mound for Southern Miss

Southern Miss outscored the visiting Monarchs by 30 runs last weekend and that series scoring margin was the fourth highest for the program since the inaugural season of C-USA in 1996. The top three highest scoring margin in C-USA series are +38 against UCF (2009), followed by +37 against Memphis (2008), +34 versus Saint Louis (2004).
The Golden Eagles also have collected double digit hits in 12 games this season, including in each of the last eight games. Southern Miss registered a season-high 15 hits last Saturday versus ODU and, over the last eight games, the squad has raised its team's batting average from .244 to .285.
A big reason for the recent surge boils down to the success of the top third of the order in Gabe Montenegro, Matt Guidry and Hunter Slater. Over the current winning streak, the trio is hitting a combined .463 (38x82) with 35 runs (53 percent of the runs scored over that span), five doubles, a triple, four home runs and 23 RBI to go along with 20 walks, four hit by pitches and only 13 strikeouts.

Looked that series up to see how bad it was:
@UCF - won Friday 6-3, then on Saturday swept a DH 26-10 and 19-1
Memphis - won Friday 21-3, Saturday 12-6 and Sunday 13-0 in 7

If you were following the program in the early-to-mid 00's, you can probably guess which program handed us our most lopsided series losses.

Jarod Wright is to pitching staff what Storme Cooper is to our batting average.
Last year his stats were: 3-1, 5.40 ERA, 18 app (3 were starts), 30 IP, 38 hits, 18 ER, 18 K, 9 BB, .306 batting avg allowed
This year his stats are : 0-2, 7.04 ERA, 6 app (2 are starts), 7.2 IP, 13 hits, 6 ER, 9 K, 4 BB, .361 batting avg allowed

I was hoping that he would have improved a good bit over last season. He seems to have decent stuff, but as hard as he gets hit, his fast ball must have no movement and he must not locate well.

Fullerton was ugly (beat us by 34 runs).
I was thinking about a few of those Tulane series.
2004: We rolled into Turchin, I believe, as a Top 10 team. Tulane massacred us 17-1, 17-5, and 9-7 (43-13). That ended any hope that we had of hosting for a second season in a row.
2001: Tulane's first CWS team came into the Pete and beat us 6-4, 17-9, and 22-3 (45-16)
There were other seasons were they just murdered us the first two games and we rebounded to take the Sunday game.
There is no better example of a USM team pissing down their legs on the big stage than our baseball teams against Tulane from 2000-2008. Tulane had some really good teams those years...but outside of a few years, the teams were not THAT different in terms of talent. Our teams mentally just fell apart the second they took the field against those guys. And the results were brutal.

Never amazes me after we kick the sh!t outta somebody, a few posters will, for some reason, immediately show us where someone beat the sh!t outta us!
So what? It has nothing to do with last weekend.
Just for the sake of transparency: In football, OP and San Diego State beat USM 69-7 in back-to-back seasons, just in case anyone forgot. In basketball, USM didn't win a game during the 1971-72 season, in case you also forgot that tidbit.
Since I have now reported those embarrassments in USM history, when we win by 50 in football or have a great season in basketball, no one on here will have to try and dull our enthusiasm by posting it.

I remember that Sunday game all too well. Still remember when we scored the final run to get 3 some Tulane fans yelling "so much for the 20 run rule"
Nothing worse than having to hear some obnoxious uptowners and yankee transplants scream that damn Hullabaloo chant 15 times in a game.
That 2009 tournament where we run ruled them and then beat them again to basically take their at large spot (and go on to Omaha) was so so satisfying.
I miss hating one of our opponents that much.

I thought Tulane got in that year. Didn’t we have five teams in ‘09?

Jarod Wright always seems to fold up at the first sign of trouble. I’d like to see him fight out of a little bind one time.

The stats show that Wallner is swinging on the first pitch in the first 2 at bats. Desperate to find something.

Agreed, he needs to take a week off, no BP or anything. It will do him some good to get away from Baseball for a few days.
