RE: AAC Conference Basketball Tournament Location
I support playing in every city ... In the largest arena for basketball. Again ... every city involved has a large arena. Except Greenville. And Raleigh is close. Go alphabetical, draw straws, whatever ... Now if a city/school declines ... go to the next. Someone please tell me why this isn't a doable deal !!! Lot's of great cities ... You don't want it ... Don't take it.

RE: AAC Conference Basketball Tournament Location
Does NOLA have an 8-12k seat arena? Tulane gym is too small and I’m afraid the Pelicans arena would be too big. The years it’s been in Hartford & Memphis, the hometown fans have accounted for the bulk of the crowds. That isn’t going to be the case in New Orleans no matter what arena it’s played in

lol....But we just keep doing it anyway. Ft Worth's Dickies Arena will seat around 13K for basketball. FWIW---it is the smallest venue so far. its smaller than FedEx (18K), the Amway Center in Orlando (20K), and the XL Center (15.5K).
Orlando had almost every game over 8k. Even their first go they average 7,600+ and had one over 8k. The first time in Hartford the average was 9,100 or so, had three of five sessions over 9,500. The Huskies second go was bad, but still had one over 8,000 and averaged like 6.5k with 10 teams and one of the sessions doing less than 2,000.
Dickies will work fine, we don't need 20,000, but but over 10,000 will work best
looks like you dont attend the conference tournaments, or you would know that number is incorrect, maybe tickets sold but not butts in seats
you could sit anywhere you wanted in the arena for any session
Listen, I get it's hard for you to take.
Official numbers, i.e. the ones everyone is using, are UCF by a landslide. Around 10% better just to be clear.
It's just a fact. People cared more in Orlando.
Don't worry by the time we roll into Ft. Worth next year the Memphis fanbase will be spreading the myth that the scanners broke and there were really 14k at every session. Then guilelessly ask can they even have that many people at Dickies? Your fanbase will come in here and want the tourney taken back to FedEx, how it will be different because its Penny's guys and so many more people will show up. How JT and Drake will do live performances between sessions and lil Penny will present the trophy. Besides next year is their last before jumping to the big xii.
None of it will be true, but the commercial appeal and a radio station will have the AD and President on. They won't comment on those rumours though, they'll just smile and point at their face. Memphis fans will take it as a sign and force their children out of school to enter into child labor camps and pay for those tickets and the days their parents will miss from work to attended the openning round.
2021 will come around the tourney will still be in DFW and the Memphis faithful will whine about how we could get more bids if we would just let them host the tourney. Rinse and repeat for 2022.
Looking forward to it.
Yeah me too, hopefully the Tigers can keep up with all the tulsa buzz.
I do agree Memphis s*** the bed with attendance, don't know what happened, just don't think it's right to judge an entire city and fanbase by posters on this board. I hope some visitors had a great time and I'm sure ft worth will be a blast.
I don't agree...since the AAC tourney was last in Memphis
2015 Hartford 45,480
2016 Orlando 38,871
2017 Hartford 29,056
2018 Orlando 50,279
2019 Memphis 45,530
Memphis beat both Hartford AAC tourneys and topped the first Orlando tourney by a good bit.
I would say Memphis has proven to be a good spot for the AAC.

Not a good spot considering there was hype that Memphis fans would at least bring it to their games, which didn't really happen.
Let's see what Fort Worth does and then we'll talk.

RE: AAC Conference Basketball Tournament Location
I thought this was an interesting article on the CUSA Basketball Tournament that is being held in the Dallas Cowboys practice facility. They just renewed the contract in Frisco for 2 more years--some of the eastern CUSA teams are not too crazy about it. Their spread out situation is similar to the AAC. It should be noted that the CUSA HQ is located in Dallas--the same Dallas that the AAC HQ is moving to very soon. I found this quote interesting---
The Dallas area is exploding with growth. Large companies are leaving high-tax states and moving to Texas. There is a ton of corporate wealth here, and C-USA commissioner Judy MacLeod seems to be doing a pretty good job of gaining a goodly portion of corporate support.
I’m told that next year the tournament will be profitable based largely on corporate support alone.
Its possible our future HQ move to Dallas might mean a nice boost to our sponsorship revenue? If these corporations are falling all over themselves to support the CUSA tourney---I would think they would be even more interested in the AAC tourney.

Lol...you know you make it obvious when you do things like this.
I will pull out all the numbers when I have time in a couple hours.
Discard 2014 when Louisville carried tiger fans.
You averaged 7,600 and had one game 8k. UCF had two games at 7,900 and 7,800. Everything else was over 8k. UComm had multiple games over 10k. I can bump an entire page of Memphis fans talking trash on conference tourney attendance and how.you would show us how it's done.
Its laughable to see you all try and spin this now.

These numbers have no relevance - its total tickets sold, revenue to the conference that matters. and of course you just reject 2014 as if it didn't benefit the conference or indicate support.

No it isn't the raw numbers were a transparent attempt by another Memphis fan to kick dirt over the turf you all dropped for the conference.
You don't get to count Louisville, boo hoo.
You add an extra session to the previous tournaments by average to see how they would have done for raw numbers with it and it makes Memphis look even worse.
54,000+ for Hartford 2015.
45,500 for Orlando 2016
34,000 for Hartford 2017
50,000 for Orlando 2018
45,500 for Memphis 2019
So Orlando was your equal or better. Hartford put you to shame before Ollie dropped them. Louisville isn't ever playing in the tournament again.
In raw numbers Memphis is the last place we should put it again. You performed worst in total crowds, avg, and in games over 8k.

This is all so funny. The guy from the school w/ the 2nd worst attendance in the league (thanks Tulane!) going on and on about the attendance at the conf tourney....... all because he took numerous shots at Memphis for booting his hero Tubby and told us how awful we'd be w/ Penny.
That didn't work out like he thought it would. Oh, and guess what moron -- its only going to get better for Memphis and worse for you.

I agree with two things that I've seen in this thread and I'll add an observation. The first is "move the schools closer together." That's not gonna happen. The above I agree with as well. Simply, there's more to offer families who could be dragged along to the tournament when it's in Orlando.
Memphis however, is pretty much the geographic center of this conference. I know first hand it's an 18 hour drive from Hartford (and that Virginia stretch down I-81 is incredibly boring).
I've been to the Big East tournament in Madison Square Garden and cheered for the Huskies. There's nothing like it, period. I do plan at some point to get to Ft. Worth to see this tournament. Just my $.02

Deflection would be you jumping from your stupid “peso can’t coach” to resorting to attendance smack. Even funnier when your school’s attendance is among the worst in the league.
And yeah, all those packed houses during the season at UCF shows how big of a basketball town Orlando is.

This is known as deflection.
We have a 7 page thread of Memphis posters trying to make their attendance at the tournament look good. After years of talking trash, turns out Orlando supports basketball better.
Lol Memphis.
Close thread.

The fact that Memphis can put nearly 9,000 butts in the seats for an NIT game, yet attendance average for the conference games were less than that, tells you what the issue was. Whoever thought it was a grand idea to play the games mid-day for the home team was a fool. Notice how that was NOT the case in Orlando.

You seriously are THE definition of deflection. Anybody that brings up something legitimate about Memphis that doesn't rub your tummy the right way and can't defend, you immediately change the subject.
It's a major weakness in your posts here and is a sign of defeat.

The conference tournament schedule is predetermined every year with every major conference.
The 1 seed plays the first game because it's the best timeslot for them in terms of turnaround time and rest between games. They've earned it. By default, the 4-5 has to be played right after because those two winners play each other.
This isn't rocket science. When you sign up to host a conference tournament, you better be readily available and any time during the thing. It's not the conference's job to homer up this thing even more for Memphis. They already had the thing on their freaking home court.
It's absolutely amusing how Memphis fan wanted everything handed into their laps. Should've went on a losing streak at the end and grabbed the 6 seed so you could've had your precious night game.
