Boom! Fixed! Lol

I give a dam. But unfortunately, most middle class give a dam people can’t afford the huge travel expense. Just a fact.

But they can't afford a day off of work to attend a game in the SAME city and SAME court their home team plays on?

I guess there are a LOT of independently wealthy Wichita State fans. Doesnt seem to hurt them. They travelled just as well to Orlando.

I dont buy the whole "cost" thing. Sure it affects some. But surely not to the extent it is currently.

Where were all these fans this past week?

Pretty sure Wichita State outnumbered everyone but Memphis. And Cincy may have been close?

So yeah. Wichita State fans arent the problem

It’s hard for me to put my finger on why Memphis fans didn’t show up as expected. It was disappointing. In the past we have sold it out during tournaments. The Memphis fan base is hard to figure out. I’m not throwing dirt at any fan base. Y’all are doing that. Not me. I’m just presenting an idea that would help attendance all around.

So there were a few hundred? How about 9,000 shocker fans at a home tournament game?

5. Problem solved, all games will be heavily attended.
6. Split all proceeds evenly amongst all of the schools.

7. Don’t have all 12 teams in. Regular season has to eliminate at least 4, if not 6 or even 8 teams.

Is there a conference out there that doesn't include every team in its tournament?

I think the Ivy does.

This is all terrible and just done to make op Memphis fandom feel better after talking trash and then doing only slightly better than Orlando and Hartford did for non-memphis games despite being much more centrally located.

It's going to DFW and it will pretty much be there from now on with maybe an occasional drop out east. It will easily be the highest attended of the tourney's since it's current make-up without Rutgers and Louisville

I’ll keep record of this post and reply next year when we see how well ft worth is attended. The league messed up big time by scheduling Memphis during the day. That was their only chance at getting good attendance. They blew it. The pros do home games in every league for their playoffs. It seems to work well for them.

Sure, they also do series so should we just do top four, three game semis five games finals?

Temple has over a 1000 alumni in DFW. All the way from Philadelphia. Pretty sure every eastern school has that. All those fans can go see their school local, and some other good match ups. The western schools have four within roughly 250 miles and huge alumni bases in the Metroplex. Its drivable distance so Memphis fans can show up and claim fandom superiority again and we'll all just ignore the weak showing in 2019 because the other games will still have huge crowds too. Hell I think a South Florida/UCF championship in Ft. Worth could get the same butts in seat as we just saw in Memphis.

Dont really mean to throw dirt. I just dont think there is anything better than a neutral site tourney. It's a LOT of fun. I really think if people would just make it more of a priority and use it as a chance to make a vacation out of it they would be hooked.

Wichita State fans are probably already planning for Fort Worth next year. Saving vacation time and money starting tomorrow lol

RE: How to fix our conference tournament attendance problem
If it’s within driving distance, the cost for a couple to attend a conference tourney aren’t really that much different than any other four day weekend type trips. Say $400 in lodging, $100 in gas, $200 in tickets, another couple hundred in dining/incidentals. Not something you’d want to do twice a month or something, but not THAT bad.

You are making my point. You are talking about an approach that will put a few thousand at most in attendance for each game. My proposal puts tens of thousands in attendance for each game.

This. That's EXACTLY what a conference tournament is all about.

Also you have to have all teams invited. Part of the fun is that all teams have a chance to go to the NCAA tourney.

There won’t be many out of towners anyways. Just like there aren’t many now. If we did this, we would boost league revenue for all schools. And perception for the tv audience.

There will be even less attendance in DFW.

Move it to a place with warmer weather, plenty of Hotel rooms, & good food & bars.

That exactly describes New Orleans.

Our football conference is the only one to do a home championship game. It’s worked out well and there has been no PR hit.

I dont know. Just nothing better than having a chance to go out after games to some bars and mingle with other teams fans. I have bought plenty of beers for other teams fans, talked basketball and really gotten to know good people from all over.

I would HATE to lose that. At that point it wouldnt feel like a tournament. Just an extension of the conference season.

I get all of that. I really do. But we are talking sentimental stuff. It’s just as much about business as well. Not to mention the excitement created on at least 6 campuses during the tournament.

I’m already planning for DFW next year. Give it a chance. There’s a lot of alumni there for a good number os schools. I think it’ll fill up the lower bowl for much of the tourney and will be fun.

The final Championship day is a crap shoot for most tourneys because it is mostly two teams but I predict Friday and Saturday will be mostly full. If the Shox make it to Sunday, I predict 6-8K fans

How to fix our conference tournament attendance problem
When you get the answer let the rest of the conferences know. Many have the same problem.

RE: How to fix our conference tournament attendance problem
If you want better attendance just hold the tournament in Wichita. I can guarantee you that the Wichita fans would show up for the non-Wichita games. I will say that I was surprised that more Memphis fans didn't go to the non-Memphis games. I do think that the attendance will be good next year in Ft. Worth. I think a lot of Shocker fans will be there and we will go to more than just the Shocker games. It would be better if it were in OKC, but Ft. Worth should still be pretty good.
