This conference leadership sucks.
I hope they release the financial information that will convince us why hosting a championship game in an empty football arena, let alone the AAU set up in the opening rounds, is a good idea and considered "very successful" according to our commissioner.

No offense to the the Texas Schools, but I hate how TXcentric this conference is and has always been. This location is nowhere close to central and is a joke of an arena from others across the country. If the location is going to be in TX for four years, then it needs to be on the east coast for the four years after that.

Do you really think it was any better in a empty 17.5k basketball arena?
If you want that info contact Harry Minium, he will request it, and get it. I did this a few times with Harry.

I don't think he does that anymore now that he's on ODU's payroll. He used to do it as a beatwriter when he was on the local paper's payroll.
And to answer your question, I don't think we should return to previous failures either. Frisco is a failure, B-ham was a failure. But it doesn't matter now, does it.

That's certainly possible.
It would be interesting to know what kind of effort, if any, was made by CUSA admin. to solicit bids from other locations. My money is on none whatsoever.

C-USA is too spread out for a central located tournament to work. I say we let the better seeds host all the way through. That way our best teams have the best chance of making the dance. If we were as compact as some of these other conferences then a centrally located tourney would make sense.

These questions should be answered by the AD of your school. A simple email might get the answers you are looking for......
I'm a season ticket holder and would like to know why is the conference basketball tourney being held (4 years) almost 1400 miles, from ODU. That's well out of driving range and too expensive to fly. Did ODU put a bid in on hosting or any school or city east of the Mississippi.
You are not going to get the answer on this board.

Yes, I think most would agree that the best method is higher seeds host games. Otherwise we get embarrassed by the likes of Liberty and Lipscomb.

No offense taken. But I'd say the conference is North Texascentric. Obviously the headquarters for the conference is in Dallas - which may have made sense when SMU was in the league. But that's not the case anymore. I would have liked the city of Houston to have bid for the tournament. The SWAC was at the Toyota Center for a few years (and then last year in a different part of Houston), but it's back in Birmingham this year. The Toyota Center is probably available again for a conference basketball tournament, and this city is large enough to use a 2nd venue as well.
I'm not sure we'd represent amazingly well for a men's tournament in Houston, but we had 2600 fans for our last women's game of the year and I do think we'd draw well for a women's tournament in Houston - this year at least. Rice hasn't been able to host a conference basketball tournament in Houston since the mid-80's and that was a Rice/Houston co-hosting of the SWC tournament.

Of course it's staying. Judy has to drive to the tournament and her jeep only has so much battery power.

it's a dadgum slam dunk...
not only does it give the best teams the opportunity to advance, but also places a premium on conference play, seeding, and attendance...

Definitely a head-scratcher. It's laughable that CUSA leadership is calling last year's tournament "very successful."

Or Frisco offered more. May suck from a fan point of view, but if they're offering the most $$$, it's hard to turn them down.

Yuck.
I'd rather the tourney be spread around, if not at home sites.
Virginia, El Paso, Florida, etc... it is only fair to the fans, damn the money lining Judy's pocketbook
And I bet our "TV" contracts get worse before they get better. OVC has better hoops coverage than we do.
