Funny that the GAST fan "cherry picked" the big 3 sports and we're getting bashed for saying we're solid at all 3.

Baseball:
2015 - #4 seed, 0-2
2016 - #6 seed, 3-1, lost in Championship
2017 - #5 seed, 2-1, lost in Championship in 10 innings
2018 - #5 seed, 1-2

Basketball:
2014-2015 - #2 seed, lost in the Championship by 2
2015-2016 - #5 seed, lost in the first round
2016-2017 - #3 seed, lost in the quarterfinals
2017-2018 - #3 seed, lost in the semifinals
2018-2019 - at worst #4 seed

Football:
2014: #1, 9-3 (8-0), won Championship
2015: #3, 9-4 (6-2), finished 2 games back
2016: #6, 5-7 (4-4), Tyson Summers
2017: #10, 2-10 (2-6), Tyson Summers
2018: #3, 10-3 (6-2), finished 1 game back



Meanwhile, App has never finished better than 11th in baseball, and has only finished better than 11th once in basketball (5th in 2018, lost in quarterfinals). Your football accomplishments are very impressive, you must be proud (finishes of #3, #2, #1, #1, #1). But when it comes to baseball and basketball, it's time to take a seat.

Georgia State comes out a little better due to their improvements in football. Basketball has finished with a top 2 seed in 4 of 5 years (other year was 6th), won 2 titles, and played for another. Football finished last or next to last in 3 of 6 years, but finished as high as 4th twice. Baseball only finished better than 10th once (5th in 2015, 1-2).


So yeah, App has the edge on us in football (thanks Tyson), and Georgia State has the edge on us in basketball, and Louisiana has the edge on us in baseball. Congrats to all involved.

But only GS and Troy have played for or won a title in all 3 major sports since the start of expansion (2012-2013 season).

It depends on your definition of consistency. If you mean consistently in the same place, i don't think this data as presented would get you any closer to that answer. I think the most glaring thing is, those teams that are consistently in first place rarely replicate that success in other sports. Which i assume means that a lot of resources are going into maintaining success in one sport while the rest are left on the backburner so to speak. I think it's obvious that nobody is trying to be bad at a sport (GSU is certainly putting as much effort into football as it is basketball), but that changing the quality of your program isn't something that happens easily or overnight.

So i decided to take the averages of those averages to figure out where everyone ranks overall in those big three sports. It goes as follows (again, rounded, but in order by unrounded);

Louisiana - 3
Southern - 4
UTA - 4.5
Coastal -5
Arkansas State - 6
GSU - 6
South - 6
Troy - 6
ULM - 8
TxSt - 8
App - 8
Little Rock - 9

Again, fits my hypothesis that if you're winning championships, you're only doing it in one of the big three sports. Which similarly means, if you're consistently near the top in all three, you're probably not often winning championships, you're just always close to winning championships. So i guess it depends which you'd prefer. App is clear leader of football but is close to last in everything else. And you're right, Southern is consistently decent at all three, but has won only one championship since joining (correct me if i'm wrong, that's off the top of my head). So it just depends on what you'd prefer i guess.

You're correct we've only won 1, but have been in the title game in the other sports (not counting football this year).

Basketball and Baseball are pretty consistent for us, we've just needed everything to come together at the right time.

You're right. Our men's teams will likely win another triple crown this year, but a men's championship is only worth 8 Bubas points, versus 12 for your women's champs. And since we do not play football or soccer, USA will continue to out-point us for the all-sports trophy. Anyway, I'd rather be like App and only excel at football.

It read to me like a GS fan implied that Apps football run shouldn't be considered and then mentioned something about GS success since the hiatus like it's relevant to their SBC era. So he definitely brought GS up himself.
